Yeah, and I suppose it was classy of Avery to take shots at every organization that decided they no longer needed is services. This from the same guy who likes to call himself a "man of character" and a "man of integrity". Bullshit!

Too many people have been sucked in by his fake humility and his over-zealous, religious prattle. After all evidence to the contrary, it's hard to understand why some think this guy "walks on water".

I like Avery, don't know why people dislike him...YEAH, he coached the team I hate the most, after the Fakers, but he is no longer there. I would definitely go if I lived in S.A.

It's not the fact that he coached the Mavs, hell anyone would jump at the chance to be an NBA head coach no matter what team it happens to be.

It's the opinion of a lot of people that he was petty and disrespectful with his "gamesmanship" during the 2006 WCSF series. That was a slap in the face to a lot of Spurs fans.

I can't believe all the hate for Avery. The Mavs gave him a chance to coach and he took it, big deal. It's not like he can't participate in the NBA outside of the Spurs organization just because he made his career here.

I can't believe all the hate for Avery. The Mavs gave him a chance to coach and he took it, big deal. It's not like he can't participate in the NBA outside of the Spurs organization just because he made his career here.

If you knew some of the dirt on this guy, you'd understand. I'll only speak or myself. Personally, I don't give a damn about the fact that Avery coached the Mavs. For the record, I hate the Mavs. That has absolutely nothing to do with my comments about him. It's more his hypocritical behavior and his total lack of accountability as a coach, former player and person.

From his overly abrasive criticism of players while with the Spurs, to the backhanded comments made when the Spurs elected NOT to resign him as a player, to his parting shots at the Mavs when he got the axe from Cuban. Because I live here in the metroplex, I'm privy to much more of the media skuttlebutt and stories behind Avery's underhanded, backroom shenanigans and episodes of petty behavior than most.

This is a guy who roundly criticized former PG Devin Harris in practice and in the media every year of his Mavs career. Then recommends the trade for J-Kidd because as AJ put it, "we can't win with him as PG and we can't wait on him to develop any longer". Then once Kidd arrives, dude openly whines to the media about how he had developed Harris to the point where he was on the verge of being an 18ppg, 8ast player. Then openly took credit for the success Harris was having in Jersey.

This is a guy that, on his way out the door, blamed the owner and GM for the construction of a roster made up of players that he told Cuban he had to have in order to win! Then in the next breath in the interview, predicted that the Mavs wouldn't make the playoffs! I guess the expected downfall will be because of the absence of his coaching genius. How petty can one guy be?

It's the same old thing with Avery - the politician. He reminds me of a chocolate-covered, pint-sized version of another asshole, former Dallas Cowboys head coach, Bill Parcells. Quick to take in all the credit for winning, but none of the blame for losing. By the time he left, he was disliked by players, assistant coaches and staff office personnel. Dude has left a trail of "scorched earth" and torrid comments everywhere he's been. Nothing that goes wrong is ever his fault. It's always the fault of someone or something else.

In the words of the great Denny Green, "they are who we thought they were". :lol

Ah yes, the Oberto hate. You look at missed shots here and there, overplay it, and put so much importance into them, you are blind to the many, many other aspects to his game that are keys to the Spurs continued success. His spacing is superb, he makes very few mistakes in his team defense, his passing decisions, court vision and movement to space is why his teammates and coaches like him out there.

Here are a couple of quotes:
"Sometimes his stats don't appear on a piece of paper, then you get in the film session and see the things he's done, you say, ‘Wow, look at Fab. That play was awesome.' ...“And then a little later, you're saying it again.” - Bruce Bowen

"He's played hard, been physical, he's always there at the right time, in the right position, setting great picks and we're finding him. He's rolling all the time and with all the help, maybe they have a tendency of forgetting about him since they're so focused with me, Manu and Timmy." - Tony Parker

"That's a player. A smart player....(and on his passing)..“That's one thing that I always put up there on the board, that he's a really good interior passer,”....“That pass to Ginobili, and another one from the top (of the key), a bounce pass to Tim, were great passes. Every coach in the league would like to have a guy like that on their team." - former NBA defensive specialist and current assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons, Darrell Walker

Oh, and back to the missed shots. Sure he doesn't get as many shots as Duncan or Ginobili or Parker, but he still led the Spurs in FG% by a wide margin with .608 from the field. I guess he did make a fair share.

Define legend. He hit one shot but was otherwise considered at best a middle of the pack point guard throughout his career, fought with Malik Rose, and caused defenses to collapse on Robinson and the rest of the Spurs.

If David Robinson had Parker he would have several more titles. Legend? Only in his own mind.

True dat. It pisses me off that that lil' bastard thought he was so much better than he was. Dude must've forgot that he couldn't shoot a lick on a consistent basis - just like J-Kidd.

I do give him credit for developing from an awful player to an average one, but he carries himself as though he was a superstar. You'd think he'd be a bit more humble having had the luxury of playing with and coaching the great players that he has.

As far as coaching, the worst thing that could've ever happened to him was having early success with the Mavs. That success, along with the usual COY accolades, went right to his head. Never took input from players, assistant coaches, GM, owner - anyone.

To be fair, I don't have any serious reason to dislike Avery.

I really object the most to the smack he talked in the 2006 playoffs.

The Spurs shouldn't have retired Avery's jersey, but that was not his decision, so I don't hold that against him.

I'm pretty much over Avery.
An apology from him for the '06 nonsense and I might even wish Avery well.

I'm blame Bo. Falling in love has made me a non fighter. :lol
