Apparently, Beckett suffered an oblique injury during his last bullpen session. The extent of the injury is currently unknown, but word is that he might not pitch again this season. The Red Sox are making an announcement after the Red Sox/Yankees game.
If true, this really hurts the Red Sox's chances in the postseason. Without him, the rotation would have to be Lester/Matsuzaka/Wakefield/Byrd. Luckily, Lester will be able to pitch game 1 against the Angels on 5 days rest if needed.
I will not give up on the Red Sox, but this is devastating news.
UPDATE: According to Tito at the press conference, the injury was not as severe as originally reported. Beckett is schedule to pitch game 3 of the ALDS. Thank god.
