I just want to know what we did to piss off the basketball gods. Tony and Manu out while Finley's out there happily running up and down the court bricking everything he throws up and being a human turnstyle on defense.
WTF?
One guy out changing eveything?
Without Manu and Tony, the Spurs are likely to lose. Better to give the young guys some reps than watch Fin sink the ship. Take the long view.

Vaughn, Finley and Bonner should get comfortable on the bench. Order a pizza too.
Hill, Farmer and Tolliver should get their minutes. If they're going to lose, let them at least see what they have. Give them some experience and some time to settle down. At least they attack the basket.

No Manu and no Parker. At some point Duncan must have looked at the guys around him on the court and thought "Who the F* are these guys?"
"I love playing for this coach and I love playing with these guys," said O'Neal yesterday. "We have professionals who know what to do. No one is asking me to play with Chris Quinn or Ricky Davis. I'm actually on a team again."
:lol---No way he said this, did he?

He did a bit when Parker first went down, but that is to be expected.
I thought he was good on D and was pretty aggressive on O.
I rather see him than JV on the court already, can't ask for more

Jeff McDonald: Parker out with ankle sprain (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/courtside/archives/2008/11/jeff_mcdonald_p_21.html)
The one thing the injury-depleted Spurs could not have happened has happened.
Tony Parker left tonight’s game against Miami late in the first quarter after spraining his left ankle.
The good news: X-rays conducted at the AT&T Center were negative. The bad news: Parker will not return to the game, and the Spurs have no immediate timeline for his return.
Parker, fresh off a 55-point game in the Spurs’ double-overtime victory at Minnesota on Wednesday, was driving for a layup with 1:56 left in the first quarter against the Heat. His ankle gave way on the drive – there was no contact – and he had to be helped to the locker room.
For the near future, the Spurs' so-called "Big Three" is down to the "Lone One" -- Tim Duncan. Parker will join Manu Ginobili on the sidelines. Ginobili is out until mid-December after offseason surgery on his ankle.

UPDATE: Parker could miss two weeks (http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/spurs/Spurs_Parker_hurts_ankle.html)
By Mike Monroe
Just two days after he scored 55 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Spurs All-Star point guard Tony Parker suffered a sprained left ankle late in the first quarter of the Spurs' Friday night game against the Miami Heat at AT&T Center.
Parker appeared to land awkwardly after driving to the basket on the right baseline with 2:06 remaining in the first period. A televised replay of the play showed his ankle rolling as he landed.
X-rays taken at the arena were negative.
A member of the Spurs' training staff says Parker will have an MRI tomorrow and is likely to miss two weeks.

Finley: 24 minutes, 0-8 FG, 0-3 3pt, +/- of -24.
Tolliver: 15 minutes, 2-5 FG, 2-5 3pt, 3 boards, 2 assists, +/- of +3.
Just sayin'.
And as I type this he tips in an offensive rebound on a missed FT.

I like Bonner... nice guy, hustles and all... but I hope they can trade him.
I really like what I see from the new guys: Hill, Mason, Farmer, and Tolliver. A bit inconsistent, but it's what the Spurs needed last year. Add solid vet play from Parker, Manu, Duncan, and Oberto, and they'll be in good shape. And that's not even mentioning Mahinmi, who might contribute too (hopefully).

If you had to bet your entire life savings and 401K and portfolio on Matt Bonner EVER getting a tip in like Tolliver just did, would you do it?

I know it's easy to say this in retrospect, but Thomas, Udoka, Finley, letting go of Brent, Bonner, Vaughn and possibly Farmer were all horrible FO decisions.
I still have high hopes for IUPUI, who has shown me a little something tonight.
And Mason needs to learn to be more aggressive.

Agree. With Tim dominating inside, it wasn't surprising Heat gave up the open3 going into the second half. Spurs couldn't capitalize. Finley lead the way.
On a positive note, the younger guys stepped up though. Liked Tolliver's game. Very active on the boards on both ends with quick enough lateral movement on D. Made some shots. Has a nice stroke when shooting.
Hill played great on D just couldn't finish on offense.
Once they get nerves out of the way and get comfortable with their roles things should get better for the Spurs.

Good call man.
You can't really run 4 down with out Manu and Tony. When you run it with Manu and Tony they can both penetrate and create off of the dribble. Running it with this group of guys might not be a good idea it all. It'll slow it up like you said with everyone just standing around.

Parker hurt: Heat 99, Spurs 83 (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/spursworld/2008/11/gameday_spurs_vs_heat_1.html)
PARKER OUT WITH ANKLE INJURY
The Spurs probably lost Tony Parker for a few weeks and lost Friday's game against the Miami Heat 99-83.
Parker left the game with 1:56 left in the first quarter when he hurt his left ankle and is expected to be out two weeks.
The Spurs announced Parker has a left ankle sprain. He did not return after the first quarter. According to the Spurs: "X-rays conducted at the AT&T Center were negative... no timeline announced for his return."
The concensus from people sitting near the court is that it wasn't contact that caused the injury. It looked like Parker simply came down wrong on his left foot while going through the lane and rolled over on the ankle.
Rookie George Hill took over at point guard with Parker out. Jacque Vaughn, the Spurs' other experienced point guard, was not active for the game. Manu Ginobili, who has seen time at point guard in the past, is still out with an injury.
Roger Mason Jr. and Ime Udoka both saw playing time at point guard for the Spurs during the preseason. Mason was handling the ball late in the first half when Hill got a rest.
Parker averaged 33.3 points and 7.3 rebounds in the first four games of the season. He is coming off a career-high 55 points in Wednesday's double-overtime road victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
FOURTH QUARTER
Dwyane Wade led the Heat with 33 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter.
The Spurs continued to make a push down the stretch. They turned a Heat turnover into a Udoka fast-break basket with 2:42 left. That cut the lead to under 10 points for the only time in the second half at 89-80.
The Spurs were firing away from outside as the fourth quarter progressed. Anthony Tolliver hit his second 3-pointer and was up to eight points. Roger Mason hit his fourth 3-pointer and had 15 points.
This game is probably out of reach but the Spurs' young guys keep on plugging. They got a basket from Hill and a 3-pointer from Tolliver to start the fourth quarter.
THIRD QUARTER
The Heat hit five of their first nine shots of second half. They lead 63-47 midway through the second quarter. They finished the third quarter wiht a 75-56 lead.
The Spurs are playing with some energy but having a hard time narrowing the gap. Tim Duncan is up to 22 points. Mason, who didn't have a basket the first half, hit two 3-pointers in the first five minutes of the second half.
The Spurs opened the second half with a young lineup - youngsters Hill, Desmon Farmer and Tolliver on the court together. They were joined by Mason and Tim Duncan.
SECOND QUARTER
The Spurs shot 32.5 percent from the field for the half and played the second quarter without Parker. The Heat led 49-32 at halftime.
Wade led the Heat with 14 points and Chris Quinn had 12. Duncan had 15 points and six rebounds and Udoka had eight points.
Duncan is picking up his game at the offensive end. He has 13 points. The Spurs trail 41-30 with 2:52 left in the first half.
The Spurs went on a 7-2 run that included a 3-pointer from Desmon Farmer. That cut the Heat's lead to 36-24 with 6:09 left in the first half. It's not a big run, so far at least, but the Spurs seem to be getting some energy from their bench players.
The Spurs opened the second quarter with Hill, Michael Finley, Farmer, Udoka and Fabricio Oberto.
FIRST QUARTER
Parker is out and the Heat outscored the Spurs 20-2 over the last 6:30 of the first quarter. The Heat lead 26-12.
Parker left the floor with 1:56 left in the first quarter. He might have hurt his left ankle.
Duncan and Parker are the only two Spurs to score in the first nine minutes of the game. The Heat went on a 12-0 run and lead 18-9.
Duncan made a pair of early baskets including a three-point play. Parker had two baskets also. It's tied 9-9.
The Spurs turned the ball over on their first two possessions. The game was less than a minute and a half old when Gregg Popovich called a timeout with the Heat leading 2-0.
PREGAME
Spurs starters: Tony Parker, Roger Mason Jr., Bruce Bowen, Tim Duncan and Kurt Thomas.
Now that the Spurs have bagged their first victory of the season, they return to the AT&T Center tonight looking for their first winning streak. The Spurs are coming off Tony Parker's 55-point night in their double-overtime road victory over the Timberwolves.

On a bright note, the Spurs didn't give up any 30 point quarters. Their defense has gone from stretches of godawful to consistently not great. It's not encouraging that with the offseason focus on scoring that they still can't buy a bucket for several minutes at a time, but maybe there are some stops in their future.
