Hill needs court time. WHy doesn't he get any?

Pop needs to be thinking about the long run here. That is stupid IMO.

What, is Pop showcasing TP for a trade or something? ;)

Yeah, I don't know why Hill isn't finishing this game. Kid is fearless and creates, something TP has momentarily lost the ability to do.

I am sick of hearing the excuse that the Spurs are so tired because of a back-to-back. New Orleans was on the second game of a back-to-back last night and beat a rested Spurs team.

I agree. I don't want to hear that excuse any more. I don't even classify it as an excuse.

I think Hill plays with great composure too. Against the Hornets I thought Hill was more composed that almost everyone else on the team. He only played limited minutes though.

He may have been 1-5 from the field in the Hornets game, but he took it to the rack hard a few times, missed a couple of tough layups, but at least he attacked and tried to create.

Shit, Money, SHOOT THAT! You were all alone from 3. That's your game!

Manu doesn't have the explosion he used to, especially upwards - that's why he's throwing away so many balls. I hope it's just a fitness issue, but it's starting to become a worry.

Sometimes you have to make little ajustments.
Tim can score every play against Gortat so sit him before and put him in the court when Howard is in the bench.
Of course the problem is that we don't have any big center to defend Howard when Tim is out

Actually, I think Howard's 5th foul and Orlando going to sleep had more than a little to do with it, but at least they didn't give up.

They've won before though on back to backs in recent years. I think they were probably still a bit down from last night's game as well. That wasn't pretty. Not to mention ESPN said they weren't getting into Orlando til 3 am. Probably a combination of both.

Why the hell would the Spurs trade Parker? He's the youngest of their stars and at the peak of his game.

Nothing to be alarmed. It just goes to show it takes time to fully recover from injuries to Tony and Manu.

By the way, Pop should just take Tony out of the game earlier when he shot 1-12 at one point.

Final: Magic 90, Spurs 78 (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/spursworld/2008/12/gameday-spurs-vs-magic.html)
By Joe Alexander

The Spurs got behind early and never caught up in a 90-78 road loss to the Orlando Magic. The Spurs, who fell to the Hornets on Wednesday in New Orleans, dropped both games of a back-to-back.

Tim Duncan led the Spurs with 19 points and nine rebounds. Roger Mason Jr. and Manu Ginobili had 10 points each.

Orlando's Jameer Nelson had 24 points. Nelson had 21 points in the second half and seemingly scored anytime the Spurs started to get some momentum. Dwight Howard had 14 points and 13 rebounds.

FOURTH QUARTER

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich pulled his main players with three minutes over. It's done.

The Magic went on a 12-2 run to take an 83-67 lead. The Spurs look like they're out of gas.

The Spurs had cut the lead to six points when the Magic's Nelson resonded with baskets on back-to-back possessions. Orlando leads 75-65 with 6:19 left.

Howard went to the bench with 8:21 left after picking up his fifth foul. We'll see if Duncan can take advantage. The Spurs still have a lot of work to do with not a lot of time.

The Spurs made an 8-0 run on back-to-back 3-pointers by Ime Udoka and Mason and a pair of free throws by Duncan. That cut the Magic's lead to 69-60 with 9:08 left.

THIRD QUARTER

Duncan scored the Spurs' last eight points of the third quarter. The Magic's lead is slowly shrinking and they take a 65-52 advantage into the fourth quarter.

With three minutes left in the third quarter, no Spurs starter has scored 10 points yet. The Magic lead 63-46 and the Spurs need a burst soon if they want to get back into this.

Tony Parker completed a three-point play midway through the third quarter. Prior to that, he was 1 of 12 from the field.

Duncan made the first basket of the second half. The Magic took over from there. Nelson had four baskets in a 10-0 Orlando run and the Magic lead 54-31.

SECOND QUARTER

The Spurs shot 28 percent the first half and the Magic rolled to a 44-29 halftime lead.

Kurt Thomas had two baskets as the Spurs finished the half with a 6-0 run - not a huge deal but something to give them a little momentum at the break.

Howard is the first player in the game with 10 points. The Spurs are still in a fog on offense and the Magic lead 43-23.

This is getting ugly fast. The Magic are on an 11-1 run and lead 37-20.

The Spurs missed their first three shots of the second quarter before Mason hit two jump shots. The Magic lead 25-17.

The Spurs opened the second quarter with George Hill, Ginobili and Mason on the floor together - three players who call all play both point guard and shooting guard.

FIRST QUARTER

The Spurs' first quarter offense looked a little like it's fourth quarter offense from the night before. Orlando went on a 16-2 run to take a 19-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Spurs missed 15 of their first 20 shots.

The Magic went on a 9-0 run that included Howard's first two baskets of the game. They lead 12-9.

The Spurs are using tough defense to take a 7-3 lead over the Magic at the first timeout.

The Spurs got going on offense when Duncan hit a jumper off the glass on their first possession. Bonner, who struggled on Wednesday, hit a 3-pointer to put the Spurs up 5-0.

The Spurs played tight defense early, with the Magic missing their first five shots. Duncan was playing defense on Dwight Howard. Popovich often keeps Duncan off the other team's best big man early to keep him out of foul trouble.

I don't know what to say. We look awful right now.

I don't know why TP is playing this bad. Is he still injured? Fatigued? His focus hasn't been there since the Dallas game. He's not playing smart at the point. Like Ruff said Mason makes 2 3's then he never saw the ball again for 9 possessions or so.

Hill should be getting more court time if Tony can't bring it for whatever reason. Time to shelve Michael and relegate him to limited minutes. Michael has to learn to contribute in limited minutes. Playing him the whole game isn't going to work out for us now or later.

You can really run much motion when your players are so tired they can barely run.

The Spurs bodies were just worn out today. There's not much more to the game than that.

They didn't run much yesterday, either.

As for the tiredness, sure they looked tired, I commented on that throughout the game, but then why not bench the tired guys (TP and Manu specifically) and go to Mason and Hill? Mason hit 2 3s to get the score back to 9, and then was ignored while TP and Manu made stupid plays for the next 10 possessions. Poor coaching IMHO.

Mason has a right to be very frustrated right now. TP and Manu are getting isos and screwing them up while he stands in the corner wondering WTF he's there for. He should be fed when he's hot.

Anyway, I'm out.

Still happy with my $100 at 21-1 though. :D

I don't agree with those saying Spurs showed lack of effort. Ginobili was trying hard. Parker's outside shot was off and Nelson was literally playing about ten feet off of him. When he couldn't hit a shot he started hesitating and his game fell apart. Duncan ran the court hard and contested almost all of Howard's looks.

The game came down to the Big Three shooting 5-for-24 in the first half. The Spurs have better scoring role players but if the Big Three lay that big of an egg, the Spurs aren't going to win.

I'm not really concerned about the Hornets loss or tonight's Orlando loss. Those teams just made their shots. We had some pretty good looks at the basket. Sometimes the shots just don't fall. Tonight they didn't. Again, New Orleans and Orlando didn't really do anything impressive. Those two games were more of Spurs losses than Hornets or Magic wins. That was some pretty good shooting by someone named Jameer Nelson tonight though. Never heard of that guy until tonight.

After his bad performance the night before, I didn't think Bonner got down on himself or completely folded. He didn't play great but made a few shots. His shot selection was a bit forced at times, but it seemed like he was trying to have a good game.

Not that it mattered in the whole scheme of things for the game tonight, but I think Bonner's overall progress is still in the positive direction. I'll take a little solace in that.

Mason's lack of purpose and Tony's reduced level of defense are not the reasons we lost tonight per se, but are small factors that continue to present themselves over the last few games. I have complete faith Tony can turn it back on.

For Mason, he probably should get more minutes, but in addition to that, while he's on the court he should get a share of the time on the ball as well. Mason shooting a jumper at the top of the key off a pick and roll is perhaps a better shot than Tony doing the same. Hopefully, Pop can see what Mason's strengths are (as well as Bonner's) and maximize them.

Mason seems slightly better when he's shooting off a few dribbles as compared to waiting in the corner. Bruce is good with that but I don't think it's the same for Mason.

Anyway, just random thoughts.

Why is everyone freaking out? This was a back2back game with travel and the Spurs got in at like 3 a.m. They are an old team with a shallow bench. What the hell did you think was going to happen against a good young team on their home court?

Realize that when the playoffs roll around your opponent is equally as tired or rested as you are. So it evens things out.

Last night was what i have been referring to for years as a "Scheduled Loss"
