I don't think anyone here was saying that the Mavs can play that way against a good team and expect to pull it out. All I've seen is that people have said that it was a hell of a win, considering the horrible start. Even many elite teams cannot pull off wins like this, so there is no question that it is a special win. But it also shows the Mavs have much more to work on. I didn't really see a lot of people getting too excited about this win. Even dubmcdub said that it was a pathetic 1st half against a pathetic team. This is a flawed way of looking at it. You can't just take the bad and disregard the good. We outscored the Twolves by 36 points in a 22 minute span, and we were outscored by 29 in a 26 minute span. The latter is awful, but the former is AMAZING, regardless of competition. If you take that 22 over 48, we beat the Twolves by 75. WOuld beating the Twolves by 75 be disregarded just becuase they're a bad team? No.

So what to make of this game? Not much other than it was entertaining but it was a game of extreme runs, flukes, and anomalies. You can't say it means we're "nowhere" near the big boys (but if you mean Cleveland, LA, and Boston, I agree with you... but we knew that BEFORE this game, it isn't newly acquired knowledge).

Brother championships are hard as hell to come by. You either need an ensamble like Detroit in 2004 or Boston in 2008 or a superDUPERstar like Lebron, Duncan, Whistle, Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, etc... that shit doesn't grow on trees. Dirk is still in the top 5-7 players in the league, just check last year's playoffs for more proof on that. Teams go years, decades, without finding something like that.

I consider myself a Dirk fan, so I would love for Dirk to win a championship. Even if that's in another uniform. However, I don't think the Mavs are better off just trading Dirk yet.I don't want Dirk to just retire as a Mav, I want him to win as one. If he wants to go, in 2010 he can walk away, and if the Mavs really have no shot then, he probably will take a low pay and go to the best team possible.

Neither did Kobe by being a leader, but they are no doubt players that you can construct a team around, and they will be contnenders. He has proven that, and really we are not far away from his ring either. If the Cavs' FO is careful at managing the cap space they'll add another quality star player really soon, and the Cavs will be tought to beat for years.
