The Spurs are not a threat. I'm sorry.

They look like the PHX Suns of old to be honest. Way too perimeter oriented. Nothing but 3's and jumpshots. Almost no meaningful production in the paint.

Great First Half by BOTH teams..... Superstars are playing like Superstars... Kobe, Duncan, Manu, Gasol..... Roll players playing like Roll Players... Bynum, Fisher, Bonner, Mason, Hill,

best part... not many FT's by both teams!!!

Manu is dominating this game, but he has 2 horrible 3 attempts where he gave the Lakers a break..they haven't been able to stop him, so he needs to keep the variety in his offense..don't give LA a break by taking horrible shots like that..

as for the first half..

Lakers bigs really aren't that scary..they aren't really using their size advantage, both guys are just making short jumpers(including jump hooks from Bynum) and a few long J's(Gasol)..

Kobe remains the guy that scares me on their team..his playmaking ability, and his 2nd half dominance in games is the scary part..we'll see how we can respond to his attack in the 2nd half..

Duncan needs to remain aggressive..he scored every time he was aggressive, except for one play, where it looked like he got fouled without a call..

rebounding is currently 13-13, and they only have 1 offensive rebound..this should go up obviously, since neither team is currently missing..we haven't been getting outrebounded though, which is encouraging..so far, of course..

Reck

LOL the Laker bigs are straight abusing your team. What you want them to score 100% of the points?

The Spurs have shown, by giving up 60+ pts, that they are clearly not the same team they used to be. Way too perimeter oriented, these kind of teams never win championships. Never.

RuffnReadyOzStyle

parkers tear drop is horrible this year. all that work on his jumper may have decreased his tear dropping ability :)

I think that's a sign of tiredness in his legs, like the way he missed those two layups at the end against Orlando.

He's probably at that stage of the season where his body wants a fortnight off, but he has to fight through it for his second wind.

What does it say about the Lakers that they gave up 63pts then? Oh, and where's all the "Sasha can shut down Manu" talk? Sasha can't carry a healthy Manu's jockstrap.

Once again, Tim is playing 2v1 against your bigs. He was meant to have Scola or Splitter or Mahinmi beside him by now, but we got fucked 3 ways.

Agreed that perimeter-oriented teams don't go far though - we badly need a serviceable, athletic big to put next to Tim.

Spurs better slow it down in the second half or I see them slowly fading because the Lakers can definitely keep this pace up.

I haven't really watched that many Spurs game this year and was very surprised they take so many outside shots.

It's incredible how many Laker fans actually believe that shit though... :rolleyes

It has everything to do with pride. Duncan is mostly a soft jumpshooter now. It doesn't matter what kind of competition he plays against...weak or strong he'll still lazily rely on that soft pussified jumpshooting game instead of the footwork and post moves he used to be known for. Honest fans on this board know what I'm talking about.

So now I'm dishonest? I am one of the most objective people on this board.

He has modified his game towards more jumpshooting because:
1) he has no lift any more,
2) teams are clogging the paint on him,
3) he's not getting any calls inside any more.

You are basically saying he's lost his competitive spirit, which is complete horseshit. Duncan is a Warrior. If he had more help in the post he might be able to go inside more often.

Way too perimeter oriented, these kind of teams never win championships. Never. if you have a better perimeter defender to stop them, but so far you don't have a stopper like Bowen in your team yet...as long as the Spurs continue to be the best from the 3pt area this season, they have a chance.

Duncan just looking for calls out there

He doesn't get them any more.

As for looking for them, I think not. He just has absolutely no hops any more so can't do anything but go into his move and hope he doesn't get blocked.

TD with 6 inches more vertical (like he had from 1997-2005) would still be unstoppable.

anybody that thinks Duncan is soft is a fucking idiot..you can't win 2 MVP's with 4 titles as a #1 option if you're soft..

Timmy was the same last year, and went back to his old ways in the playoffs..that's what we're going to see this year as well..WHEN HE DOES go down low, you clearly see he still has the same game..he's shown it in tonight's game too..

taking it down low takes a lot out of your body in the long run..the fact that Duncan has added a reliable J will be great in the playoffs..he does shoot too many J's though, but that has nothing to do with being soft..

as for those saying the Spurs can't win playing with this type of style..bullshit..it's difficult, but it's not impossible..Boston is 16th in points in the paint, while we're 17th(despite injuries to our penetrators)..Cleveland is last in the NBA in points in the paint..

a jump shooting team won the title last year..they were 15th in points in the paint, and their best player was a big man that was known for taking a lot of jumpers..

the problem with the Spurs isn't points in the paint, it's getting to the free throw line..that's what separates us from the other teams..having great D and getting to the line makes up for points in the paint..we need to improve our D and our ability to get to the line, which we should be able to do with Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili..

Bynum has a beautiful hook - no surprises given his work with Kareem. Kid will be very good if he ever gets his head on right (which he will).

HUGE TD block on Ariza, but no, he's a wuss... :rolleyes

My prediction - this will be a low scoring 4th as both teams ratchet up the D and have the inevitable shooting slump that goes with shooting this hot for 3 Qs.
