Manu exaggerated the contact and in the process lost the opportunity to get the ball. Foul or not, the contact did not cause Manu to spasm on the floor, and that should have been a steal.

Just watch the game and stop whining about the refs already.

Kobe has been thrown to the floor twice now. No foul. Consider yourselves lucky, the refs could actually start giving Kobe the star treatment.

That'll happen in the 2nd half.

Reffing in the nba makes basketball almost unwatchable. Not just when the calls go against the spurs. They're just so damn inconsistent and way too subjective.

a foul is a foul nothing to do with subjective
if a guy is set it is a charge if not it is a defensive foul

When they lose it's never their team's fault. It was always the refs, Stern conspiracy, or the Spurs just weren't trying. Or they were tired. Or Duncan had a tummy ache.

Look I've been monitoring this blog. I am a die hard Spurs fan. However, it does get very old to read the complaints about the refs. It's not the ref's fault. They call it as they see it. They are human and will make mistakes. If the Spurs would have made a much higher percentage in shooting, they would not be trailing, and the refs would never be an issue. Quit with the whining.
Also, don't praise a Spur and then hate them right away after they miss a few shots.
Let's see you play in an actual NBA game, and you'll see just how hard it is to score or even make an open shot. Keep in mind, it's a national audience watching as well. Look at the overall picture and not just what "you" see.

I'm sure I'll get some hate messages, which is typical here. No, I'm not a troll...I'm just someone who understands the game. You should too.

Not a horrible half overall. The Spurs aren't playing too well so they are lucky to be within striking distance. But they have to watch out early in the second half because the Lakers could easily make a run and put the game away.

-Duncan needs to up his aggression and look for his shot more often. The Lakers aren't doubling him much and he can score against both Gasol and Bynum.

-TP doing a pretty good job but needs to play a little smarter. Make cleaner decisions and keep attacking the rim.

-Manu needs to stop being a spazz. Simple passes. Simple loose ball recoveries. Shoot when open and look to create even more.

-Bonner can't start choking now. A bad sign is that his form is now off on his jumper, which is something I've rarely ever seen. He's rushing it and not following through.

-RMJ and Finley need more three-pointers in the second half to keep the Spurs afloat.

-Bowen doing a decent job defensively but needs to stop reaching and keep making Kobe shoot off-balance jumpers.

-KT has to actually play post defense instead of being a 6-foot-9 pylon.

-Pop can't start pulling weird lineups out of his hat. He sat Parker too long in the second quarter and giving up on Hill just caused confusion. More plays for Duncan and Ginobili in the halfcourt sets.

It's going to be hard to win this game but ............................

Yes,but he can't because we didn't make a play for him.All our plays began with TD in the top of the key.I can't understand it when you have the best big man of the league.I prefer any day TD taking 25 shots than TP+Bonner taking 15+10.

I don't understand how they didn't call that "wrestling" foul of Bryant on Gino...means two points more for L.A. and two less for spurs.

I agree with Jose..Duncan needs to take a lot more shots, we need him desperately..

horrible first half IMO..not the outcome, but the effort..ridiculous pass attempts, bad play calling..keep it simple..the Lakers D isn't forcing us to do anything, we're doing it to ourselves, as usual..I don't wanna see any Mason isolation plays..I don't wanna see Manu taking stupid shots and trying no-look passes..Duncan needs to get in the post more often..

refs have been fine other than that horrible call to end the half..can't complain..

I like the Spurs in the first quarter better than the second quarter. I agree with timvp,I would like to see more aggression from Tim. Bonner may need to stick to dueces unless he starts to warm up and hit the tres. More TP drives and less Manu TO.
Let get this second half started, keep it close and put it out in the 4th and get a win.

Good analysis. I would add that the Spurs basically lost the first half at the FT line, due to the Lakers getting deep plus some cheap fouls. Lakers outscored Spurs by 8 from the FT line.

Lakers are doing a nice job on the screen/rolls, bringing help. Bryant is wearing himself out a bit guarding Gino but he is really guarding him well. Gino was a non-factor and detrimental at times.

If Parker comes out like he did in the 2nd half of NJ game with drive penetration, then the Spurs can win this game.

Mostly agree. However, I think at some point we're going to need TP to play more of a PG, and involve more players not named Tim Duncan. The whole dribble, dribble, dribble, shot routine can really get old quick, besides not getting anybody else involved.

Agree...but look at the stats at the half way season , the spurs are getting less FT calls and +1 than almost every oter team in the league!!!
Maybe it'a part because of them, but come on,with TP and Manu constantly attaking the rim, having so few calls is...... at least surprising/questionable!!:lol

our perimeter game on both sides of the ball is horrible right now. wide open shots are being missed, poor decision making, this just sucks.

of course, we wouldn't have to rely on our perimeter game so much if we had another BIG MAN DOWN LOW that could do some damage. Our frontcourt in my opinion is horrible outside of Duncan. Bonner and Thomas are outside jump-shooters, we have no one down low that can play. WE NEED A BIG ASAP

-Duncan plays poorly in the quarter, for the same reasons as any other game where he plays poorly..doesn't use his specialty..Duncan is NOT a face-up player, he's no longer quick enough to use that part of his game against good defensive players..Tim shouldn't be settling for J's..he's been solid at posting up in this game, and that's how he should be playing..

-no Bowen in the 3rd..ridiculous..he's the only perimeter defender on our team that actually knows when to rotate..his 1 on 1 D was solid as well..

-Ginobili and Parker just throwing shit up..seems like a usual occurrence lately..

-Mason and Finley don't understand how to rotate defensively..
