We are not ready for these guys. We might be come playoff time, but not now. Thankfully there is still plenty of time and I still believe this team can get there.
We still need another big though.....
Pistons are willing to part ways with Kwame Brown.. if the Spurs are interested

their front line dominated us with size and athleticism. If our small ball team can't hit from the perimeter, we are an average team.
Well, everyone did their part to collectively shit the bed. I just want to say, fuck our front office and for the love of christ, ginobli and parker need to snap out of their recent slump.
TP is the best scorer, at nearly 50 %, and the best passer of the game. He and tim did their work.

I should have put $$ on this game. After the Silver & Black lucked out last week against L.A., I knew they wouldn't have a chance in this one.
I said this during the playoffs, and I'll say it again ... other than Duncan over Bynum (who's within shouting distance of Duncan), there's not a single Spur who I would take over a comparable Laker (same position, size, etc.). Other than Duncan, none. Farmar or Fisher (even Vujacic) over Parker or Ginobili, Bryant of course over Finley or Mason, Gasol over any of our forwards (other than Duncan), and Odom over any of our SFs.
Not enough Spurs would even crack the Laker rotation. Parker and Gino would play some. And Duncan would start. But the rest would ride the bench.
Sorry, but it's true.

This is the best three point shooting team we've had in a long time, and Phil Jackson has still shown that he is more than willing to leave them wide open and make us beat the Lakers from the perimeter. And, as it has so many times before, it's working.
Johnny RIngo
01-25-2009, 05:37 PM
This Spurs team is too reliant on the 3 ball. We either live or die from beyond the arc(Spurs needed to shoot a high percentage just to barely beat the Lakers at home). This team isn't getting anywhere close to a championship if we have to depend on players like Matt Bonner to make threes against elite teams.

True
this game was ALL sorts of fail. the refs were clealry biased, first and foremost, and I don't see how any spur fan could disagree. Both Mason and Bonner's first two fouls were priceless. They were even waving off baskets Spurs made and callign fouls before the pass, etc, like on Oberto's basket. They were letting Lakers play physical on D and not giving the Spurs, or Tim, any credit.
Very frustrating

It's true. I'm well aware of the stats and history .. Parker and Gino are great. But Fisher/Farmar/Vujacic beat them consistently when they match up. We both watched the playoffs last year, we saw what happened. And it happened again today.
Shoot, Radmonovich, who has barely played today, would play big minutes for the Silver & Black. At least 25.

Right on, and thanks.
We need Super Manu to even think of beating the Lakers ONE TIME (and by a lucky ref call).
If the Lakers just show up and put on their jersies and play an average game, they'll cruise to the Finals. They'll have to contend with Boston again (or whoever comes out of the east), but for the time being, the question of who is #1 in the West is settled.

This game is an example of why Parker needs to get everybody involved in the beginning of the game. You can't go to Bonner and company in the second half and expect them to carry us. The first half needs to get everyone in the game and the second half should belong to the big three.

How many open uncontested shots did the Spurs and miss?? A bunch from what I saw. Bonner and Mason missed many that they usually make. And Manu didn't play too well in this game. He seemed hurried and out of control. And I don't think it had anything to do with the Laker's D. I saw him committing too early, rushing shots and getting caught up in the air trying to attempt too many complicated passes which lead to turnovers. Sometimes I just wish he would settle for basic simple passes more often. But that probably wouldn't make Manu well Manu.
It's one of those games where I just sit back, roll my eyes and move on to the next one. Always reminding myself that Spurs teams are always a work in progress during the regular season.

I think it comes down to making shots. The defense wasnt bad it could have been better by far but its slowly getting there.Today it was about making shots and they didnt. You can talk on taking alot of 3s but its not like the spurs are playing warrior or suns ball and just jacking them up.
Its in the flow of the offense and you gotta knock them down to keep the defense on its toes.

We need to stop shooting so many 3s. We shot way too many today and most of them were wide open, but we missed em. We need to attack the basket and get to the FT line, get layups, or get some midrange jumpers.
I like the defensive effort of our backups in the 4th. They forced a lot of turnovers and got a lot of rebounds....unfortunately, they did very little with all the extra opportunities on the offensive end.
Right now is a very bad time for Mason, Bonner, and Finley to be slumping and struggling. We need them to get hot and in a hurry. We are about to hit a very tough stretch where points are vital....
Props to the Lakers for their win today.

that's not it, Manu needs to trust Hill with the ball a lot more, he would benefit way more if Hill was back to being aggressive because defenses would have to keep an eye on him instead of just loading up on Ginobili.
Hopefully over the 2nd half of the season Hill and Ginobili can get some chemistry going, they'll be a dangerous 2nd unit that way.

The saddest thing about this loss is that it won't mean anything to the Spurs. They'll continue to do the same shit that makes them look like they might as well hang up their season. Today's Spurs team is the same Spurs team that has been struggling, YES I WROTE FUCKING STRUGGLING, against shitty teams. Now they come up against a more inspired and obviously more determined team like the Lakers and who's surprised the Spurs same mediocre shitty effort isn't enough? But will this loss be enough for them to 'wake up'? Or is it just another meaningless ugly game they'd rather forget? This isn't their first shitty game this season. And it's not their first shitty effort. You have to assume it won't be their last given they haven't improved from one ugly game to the next. I'm tired of watching the Spurs jamming that fork into the fucking electrical outlet, time and time again, never learning from each shock they got before. Yet that's what they did today. Again. It's hard to have faith when the team you root for seems to be collectively retarded.

I'm disappointed that Pop takes out his starters even at the earliest signs of a blowout. It's a cowardly way to go out.

First time poster. I'm a Laker fan and I didn't come to gloat. I'm pleased with the play of Andrew today and Tim was the player he needed to reprove himself with

Well that blew donkey weenies, but I can't say it was completely unexpected. Not seeing a whole lot of confidence right now. The team doesn't seem like a cohesive unit.
That being said, I put my faith in SPAM.

Gee, um, thanks. I think. :toast
Okay ... I'm off ST until playoff time, we should hope. Maybe sooner if some big Spurs news comes along, like trading the entire Spurs roster for the entire Lakers team. That would never happen .. it would be 2 Spurs for every Laker.

Or you could start with the two Manu turnovers at the end of the 2nd where the Spurs went to six points down.

Spurs live by shooting % and die by shooting %, since Spurs didnt dunk and attack the rim (except Tony, Manu is becoming a shooter than slasher). They match up in the first half..up until the point when Ariza got sparked,Bynum got sparked, then it finish...Why Spurs never dunks?? I know its easier said than done but Spurs deserve the lost,i mean if the shots wont fall in, why dont go to rim and throw it down? Worst thing that happen will be getting fouled if not stupid enough to draw a charge by running through a screen. I saw KG today and he dunked and his team got pumped..I look Duncan missed some shots and got blocked. Somehow things becoming more predictable after a while. Spurs deserve to loose. Manu didnt go to the rim, he stil finding his touch,Mason and Bonner didnt really feel it this time. Hopefully things will change or otherwise Spurs will FALL against Lakers again and final will be: Lakers vs Celtics. My prediction Spurs will fall in secound round after another drama. This is why the Spurs sometimes look inconsistent: You will always sometimes got shooting bad days once in a while, going to the rim and dunks got better chance to go in compared to shots. If things not change or improved Spurs will lost...just like last year.

I found it unsettling that Brickdoka played with more heart than everyone outside of Timmy and Tony.

Why aren't some of these teams taking it to the Lakers? There are plenty of teams (including Phoenix tonight) that are more talented and better than the Lakers. Why are teams repeatedly not showing up to play against them? Are Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom, and Jordan Farmar really that intimidating? Why are they playing scared? It's like the 2006-2007 BS we saw with the Mavs. They were making their shots, shooting the ball well, and had most teams play like junk against them. It took a team that barely got the 8th seed to just go out there and play some real basketball, to get rid of them.
Maybe they have to play Boston (as in the 2008 Finals) or Detroit (as in last week) for everyone to see how average they are.
I will say it right now: when the Lakers play the Spurs in January, they will not win. In fact, the Spurs will sweep the season series against the Lakers.
It's time for the league to step up against these jokers.
OOPS!! :lol

We got off in the third quarter when we finally decided to guard the three point line. Mason is going to be a threat. He's not a point though. He's one helluva three point threat.

I haven't seen anything to persuade me that this year's squad are real contenders. Clearly the torch has been passed to the Lakers and Celtics.

All i can say is .. disgraceful effort from the spurs. Their wayward shooting pretty much set the tone on offense. Manu lead the charge playing like a nervous rook. Maybe it really is the Sasha effect. When he lays an egg their 2nd unit becomes a liability.

Ducks I'm going to give TP some props tonight. He played with heart and he was the Spurs best player tonight. TP really played hard and made some good decisions with the ball to get guys open shots and they clanged them. Not TP's fault.
btw I just watched the game on International League Pass. Piss poor effort from the Spurs. Still making the same mistakes. The game was lost just before halftime when the Spurs had a ton of lapses and mental mistakes.
And yes it absolutely pisses me off when Pop throws in the towel and takes the starters out like he did in the 4th quarter. That was a pathetic move and I've had enough of it. They have to be held accountable and they have to be out there to fight there way back into the game. They shouldn't be let off the hook like that.

Manu's been pretty mediocre at times this season. He had an OK game last game against the Lakers, but in this game he was very average. Manu is not playing up to his capabilities at all.

I know people are going to say it's too early to worry but from what Pop did today, it makes Spurs's fans upset. Does he know that he ruins the faith the Spurs' fans have for their team. Pop makes me sick with his mind game!

The more important stat is the playoff series stat in which PJ absolutely owns Pop.

roger mason had a sub-par game and ginobili and bonner were unable to get going. after the first our defense wouldnt hold up thats it.
the lakers are one of the best teams in the league, if not for their inexpirience, they would be the best. its impressive that we held in that long with our bench playing terrible.
jumpshots were key in this one. and the misuse of brucey-b. he was our best player that game, or at least our most effective defensivley.
