The scenarios I mentioned earlier were reactions, but nothing caused it. Nothing..... And the things I speak of are not aimed at you or any individual. It's about feeling respected, not b/c you have money, but b/c you breathe air just like anyone else. I'm not running around hating cops, but I do look sideways when I see them as I'm sure you may do deep down if you were to walk up to a group of black guys on the court nowadays. We're human.... Personally, I think Howard is immature, speaks w/ no logic, and parties way 2 hard (I've seen him out a few times), but the feelings he has can't be dismissed simply b/c he lacks the ability to articulate his thoughts. Everyone wants equal access, not just to jobs or diners, but equal access in people's hearts -n- minds. I can't believe it, I'm writing an essay while the game's on, shit!!!!!!!

I'm not trying to argue. I agree with you. I think it's wrong. What I'm trying to say is..it goes both ways. I've had my life threatened because of my race. My opinion is if you live in a free country, and make the kind of money that he makes while playing a game, you should respect the people fighting for it, and any argument you would give would be futile to me as well. I told you, it's futile. You could always bring up a story from your life, but this is daily in EVERY city for no reason at all. There was a hip hop song called fuck the police about 20 yrs. ago. No..It's not because sports fans pay him to. It's because he's an American. If he's upset at this country for what it did to his ancestors 200 years ago, he doesn't have to live here. I don't think what white people did 200 years ago was right either, but at the same time, we had nothing to do with that. And he's living in the lap of luxury now in this country, and we have soldiers who are fighting and dying for him to be free in this country. He should respect that. I have family and friends fighting, and that national anthem is their symbol. It's our way of showing that we respect them and what they're doing. He did not insult the soldiers, nor did he insult the flag - if he burned a flag and said that "America is shit" then he might be anti-American, but he didn't do those things, he simply said he doesn't "celebrate" the anthem. It is unreasonable to call him "anti-American" just because the anthem doesn't mean the same thing to him as it does to you.

We are talking about something very similar to the Dixie Chicks saga - they were not being "anti-American", that was patently obvious to anyone with half a brain, they simply objected to their country's involvement in a war that they disagreed with, as is their democratic right and responsibility, and yet they were hounded as if they had betrayed the nation. Jingoism at its finest.

I was on my way home from work when I heard Bill Schoening say Timmy wasn't playing. I thought for sure it would be a loss for us - but after seeing Tony outscore the whole Mavs team in the first quarter - I figured we had a great chance to win the game.
