Too many great memories for him not to be.

And then the 2 greatest that I can't even find on youtube. His block on Billups in the 05 finals and my personal favorite when he sank that 3 on phoenix and then stared down their bench as he ran up the court.

That second clip was awesome for two reasons, the block of course, and Dampier taking out Dirk trying to foul Finley. :lol
Forgot the block on Dirk in the playoffs too.
I remember Bowen getting after it on Lebron as well.

Clearly. He dominated at what he did best, and he was arguably the best at it in the entire league for many years.
The defense was the heart and soul of the Spurs during the championship years, and Bruce was the heart and soul of the Spurs defense.
No offense meant, Tim and David.

when this era of spurs retire they will run out of room on top of numbers retired
Really? It doesn't seem like a no brainer to me.

Avery gets his number hung for making the last basket in the game that clinched the Finals 4-1.
That is like Oberto getting in because he had an And-1 in the closing minutes of the sweep of the Cavs.
Bruce is a guara-damn-teed lock for the rafters if AJ is the litmus test...
HiLouis!
03-06-2009, 11:12 PM
absolutely, the spurs set a precedent when they let AJ in the rafters. They have to retire manu, tony, tim, and bruce's jerseys. We're gonna have a lot by the time this epoch of spurs basketball comes to an end. It's a good thing.

I can imagine in 20 years when the AT&T or whatever new area the Spurs play in has 15 retired Jerseys hanging from the rafters.
And why no love for Robert Horry? :/

Horry will be remembered more of his Laker years than Spurs years, although game 5 of the 2005 NBA finals is my #1 Spurs moment.

The Core of Four for three championships.
Somewhat. Let's not forget that Speedy Claxton saved Parker's ass in the 03 finals and Stephen Jackson sure took some of the offensive burden off the rest.
I'm not saying Parker sucked in 03 but he wasn't exactly playing up to a starting point guard

Disagree that Claxton saved Parker's ass, I don't know where this myth comes from. And Parker did play like a proper starting point guard, in fact better than anyone could have expected from a 20 year old on a championship team.
Facts : TP in the series : 14.00PPG 4.17APG 1.83TPG
Speedy : 6.17PPG 1.5 SPG 0.67TPG
Yes, Speedy helped in game 6 when Tony was struggling, but for the series Parker played well and Speedy didn't save his ass at all.
People also have very wrong ( or maybe none ) memories from AJ being a Spur, he meant much more to the team than his stats suggest and his # was deservingly retired.
Bowen, of course, is a no brainer.

Bruce's number will obviously be in the rafters, proudly displayed next to AJ's, Sean's, David's, Moore's, Ice's, and Sii's.

Avery didn't deserve it IMO.
Bowen deserves to be there by himself, not because Avery is there too.. without a doubt.

what? avery johnson made it because w/out his last second 18 ft. jumper in one of the finals' games in 99, spurs woulda lost.
