Man, what the hell draws cats to this apartment, I don't know. You guys heard about the infamous awesome kitty experience, and then after that there was another stray Jess fed for awhile, but hasn't come back since.

Well, now this trumps that.

I came by today, and because Jess is out of town everything was off. I come in and it's dark, and I hear meowing. I'm like wtf? Well, I go to the porch, and there by the sliding glass door is a cat with an undetermined number of kittens.

I'm going to try to take a picture, but I don't want to scare the mother. When I opened the door to see what was going on, she hissed at me.

Anyone know what I should do if anything?

Call the Animal Defense League (they're no-kill) and see if they have room for any kittens. Specify kittens, because it seems like they never have room for adult cats.

The mother, you'd probably have to call Animal Control.

I don't want to seperate them from the mother yet though, they look brand freaking new! I really think she had them at some point today there on the porch!

Manny, just put a bowl of food out there for the mother. If they were just born, she's not going to let you get near them but she might want to eat.

I hear Kris Zebrowski has a soft place in his heart for stray kitties...

Manny, to expand Kori's advice a little, put out kitten chow. It has extra nutrition for kittens and nursing mothers. I know that the Science Diet kitten formula is labeled as for kittens or nursing mothers.

Put out some water, too.

I put out food for the mother. She was starving because when I started to pour from the thing of Kitten Chow that was here, she literaly dove into the container. Poor thing, I'm going to put out some water tomorrow as well. I'm going to call the Animal Defense leauge tomorrow and see if I can get them to take the kittens AND the mother since they are newborns and still need to be with her.

Oh, and she's getting Kitten Chow cause that's all thats here.

Manny, this is kind of off the subject and will probably sound a little backwards....but you should never give an animal away for free to someone you don't know.

People that fight dogs love to get small dogs, puppies, kittens and cats for free because they can use them as bait to get their dogs to like the taste of fresh blood and to teach them to kill other animals. There are also people that torture an do other despicable things to animals that people are giving away...or they could just neglect them. This makes those free pets likely to get abused, and turned into instruments that present a danger to people as well as other animals.

I know it doesn't make much sense at first, and that you are trying to do the right thing for these animals...but if you don't know the person you are giving them away too the animal is probably better off just going to the pound...

If you have a cat and you are really worried about it getting gassed...the cat is probably better off if you just take it off to the woods somewhere and let it survive on it's own(which most cats can do easily)...a lot of times the humane society or a vet will offer free neutering for cats at certain times of the year.

If someone wants a pet and is willing to take care of it they will also be willing to pay for it...I know there are exceptions to that rule, like giving them to most women or children, and if you know them then don't sweat it...but trust me, if you give that animal away to a stranger it can face a lot worse things than getting gassed. I've seen some of these unfortunate animals. I've also seen people that go out and get free kittens to use for target practice. I mean would you give a child away to a total stranger? Always charge strangers something, anything...the animal is better off for it.

I hear you.

I've never given away a pet or any animal to a stranger. We're big on making sure that animals are taken care of properly. I haven't sold kittens in the past, because I've had a hard enough time finding good homes for them for free.

These kittens will more than likely be off to the Animal Defense leauge. I already have one cat and my mother owns a cat that is about to have either a giant kitten or many kittens (the cat is fucking GINORMOUS) so I'm in no position to take on any more pussy! Jess wants one, but she also has a cat she's probably bringing back from Houston soon, and she can't handle 4 new kittens!

But I do want all of these cats, including the mother, to go to good homes. The mother is a bit dirty because she's been outside, but she looks so pretty and after I fed her she totallyed warmed up to me.

If for whatever reason they do stick around here for awhile, I'll get them to people I know.

You're rightfully concerned Whottt, and it makes sense. We'll make sure they go to the a good place.
