It ranks celebs based on earnings PLUS other things like web/google mentions, how many times they've been on the cover of certain magazines, TV/Radio mentions. I guess people talk about Kobe, whether you love him or hate, more than LeBron. Somewhat surprising but perhaps Kobe's polarizing image leads to more people talking about him, asking about him, and looking him up. It does better explain why Jordan is below Kobe since Jordan is not in the news as much as current athletes. But, it is somewhat surprising LeBron higher on the list.

Kobe has been a top player for all of the 2000's.
He sells more jersey's
Is bigger in China and Europe (See jersey and merch sales)
Plays for a bigger market
Has the hottest ball shoes the Kobe 4's

Did you watch the Olympics last summer? Kobe was the biggest celebrity there.

I actually thought Oprah would be #1 this year because on top of everything else, she helped get Obama elected.

Or maybe Kobe new that he would have more of a legacy if he was an anti-jordan in terms of his public image.

If he was a carbon copy of his image ppl might say to themselves theyve seen this before
