WTF? How does Stu actually get this job if he doesn't know about Brown as a player?
That's why Bilas, Van Gundy and Jackson are with him. Stu gets paid to keep the car on the road, not to fill the tank up.

06-25-2009, 10:23 PM
lol, all of a sudden he's a solid defender
yes solid...he wasnt great like Rodman or anything, but he used his girth to his advantage. he did a great job of boxing out. he played the passing lanes well for a big man. he got lots of weakside blocked shots.
Barkley had the ability to be a great defender, but he didnt focus on it as much. He focused more on rebounding and scoring than on being a great one on one defender.

Might Blair need to shed about 10 pounds or so to keep up with the fours of the NBA? Or does he have good quickness already?
Less weight will benefit those knees in the long run either way.

At this point I don't think he has much of a choice. He has Duncan, Bonner and Mahinmi in the post. And Mahinmi seems intent on never amounting to much of anything.

I really want Gladyr, from what I've heard about him having Mahinmi's agent.
NBAdraft.net has a poll on the biggest surprise to fall out of the first round. Blair 80%, Green 20%.
The most important thing about Blair isn't his wingspan. It's his standing reach of 8'10.5". Some of these guys have short necks - no kidding. I saw a really good article about it, that some guys are essentially 3"-4" shorter because of it. And that's why they play so much taller, because they are taller where it matters - from the shoulders down.
To give you some idea, Griffin and Jordan Hill are both listed at 6'10", but Griffin has a standing reach of 8'9", and Hill has a standing reach of 9'0". That puts Blair exactly in the middle of those two, and it means that should be able to play as big as they do. It doesn't matter where the top of your head is, just where the tip of your fingers are.

His lane agility is in between Griffin and Jordan Hill. But his 3/4 court sprint is slow, and his no-step vertical is way short. He could stand to lose a few pounds.

Similarities: Salim Stoudemire
# Big time 3-point shooter
# Deep range on his jumper
# Good midrange game
# Good motor
Negatives:
# Undersized for his position
# A little one-dimensional
# Doesn't attack the basket
# Not athletic enough to finish at the rim
Summary: June 2 Update: In the lane-agility test, McClinton had the best score, finishing the drill in 10.44 seconds. See the full combine story
June 1 Update: Finally, Miami's Jack McClinton wants a do-over in the measurements. He measured under 6 feet in socks and just a little under 6-1 in shoes, which were essentially the same measurements as Syracuse's Jonny Flynn. However, McClinton insisted to me that he's an inch taller than Flynn. I think he's right. He went up to Flynn, they stood back-to-back and McClinton definitely looked taller. Either McClinton hunched in the measurement or Flynn stood on his tippy-toes. See the full Chad Ford notebook
Jan 2 Update: McClinton is having a terrific season, improving on his numbers across the board. But his lack of size, elite athleticism or off the dribble game pigeon hole him as an undersized shooter. Think Salim Stoudemire.

Now that I think about it, McClinton can play a Pargo role.
More House to me, which is why I've been suggesting the Spurs would pick him. Pop made no secret last year that he wanted his own E. House (thus Salim Stoudamire) and I figured McClinton was that guy.
Plus, he made sure of mentioning the Spurs and Duncan as being the type of situation that would benefit him.

de Colo
Positives:
# Crafty combo guard who thrives at slashing to the basket
# Fun player to watch; has a lot of charisma
# Really sees the floor well
# Fantastic poise
# A leader
# Excellent shooter with range
# Great size if he plays the point guard position
Negatives:
# Lacks great lateral quickness
# Not explosive athletically
# Gets exposed on the defensive end of the floor.
Summary: Jun 8 Update: De Colo was the big surprise at the camp. NBA scouts have been following him for a couple of years, and a number of NBA execs reported that he looked good in the group workouts in Minnesota last week. But he was borderline spectacular at the Eurocamp. He torched Mills' team on Day 1, leading his team to a 20-point blowout. And his production (13 points, 4 assists, 4 steals) didn't tell the whole story -- his floor vision, pacing and defense dictated the course of the whole game. De Colo kept it up in a second game Saturday and two more Sunday. He looked like the best pure point guard in the camp.
Scouts love his size and swagger, and he really shot the lights out during camp, making 65 percent from the field. While those who watched him in France all year worry he lacks the lateral quickness to defend the quicker guards in the NBA, he seemed to hold his own against Mills and, to a lesser extent, Beverley. De Colo was the other guy who looked like he could be a legit late-first-round prospect, with a few caveats. First, the word in the camp was that De Colo might have jumped the gun and signed a pro contract in Europe, which could keep him out of the league for a few years. Second, several GMs wanted to go back and take a closer look at his game film from this year. De Colo was up and down all year, and they want to get a better look at how his season went. But overall, no one helped his stock more than De Colo. He went from a borderline second-round prospect to getting some legit buzz in the late-first to early-second rounds.
Jan 2 Update: De Colo is a great talent on the offensive end of the floor, but defensively, who will he guard in the pros? He's an interesting prospect, but he's probably a second-round pick this year.

Great damn draft.
No shit. Considering there was no pick in the top half of the draft, two of these guys should make the club. I'm assuming De Colo is a draft'n'stash.
I didn't think there was much room in the NBA for a 6'0" guy who can't run the point. They talk about 6'3" guys being too short to play the 2 in the NBA. I know he's a good, quick defender, but that puts two little guys on the floor.
Maybe he's in when Manu is running the point? I don't know... that's really a specialist.

Mcclinton is about a 1000x better shooter than Hill is. McClintons ability to pull up and drive with turnover ratio was off the charts. He is a really really underrated player.
