done deal..hm...story broken by Gooden himself. Good pickup by the Mavs, good drop by the Spurs.

Not bad. Basically does everything Bass would have done. Which makes you wonder why they didn't just keep Bass in the first place. In all honesty, this might be a slight upgrade since Gooden can rebound and Bass is one of the laziest rebounders in the NBA.

He's a perfect fit for Dallas, low Bball IQ and all...

Dirk/Gooden at the 4/5 will be abused on a nightly basis.Hope they dont share too many minutes together.

Gooden's a great addition to the Mavs. He can play the post game when Dirk sits.

Was there somebody better in mind to play the backup PF/C role?

"Not bad" as my man dick face put it. He was probably the best free agent big man available I think.

Still have the LLE to work with, dunno if thats enough for Wafer/McCants though which I would like... and the "Buck shot" with other contracts to add some talent if anyone swilling to dump salary.

MavDynasty
07-26-2009, 12:42 AM
Yeah,im fine with him playing solid minutes from the bench but if he starts, the mavs are in real trouble...

And he can give us low post scoring and rebounding to make up for the loss of Bass

I would rather have Dirk at center and Marion at PF than Gooden at Center and Dirk at power forward. At least we cause a matchup problem in return. Gooden at center really doesn't cause a matchup problem for opposing teams and they will hurt us on the other side. I guess we'll see how he does.

The Mavs are getting themselves a pretty nice bench, which has been really thin lately.

Kidd, Howard, Marion, Dirk, Damp to start games

Terry, Barea, Gooden, Boobouis, hopefully McCants on the bench

I wonder what the end game lineup looks like? Kidd/Terry/Marion/Gooden/Dirk? I don't mind that one bit, although defensively that lineup is either slow & unathletic or athletic & dumb. Still better than that Barea/Terry/Kidd/Bass/Dirk horseshit they were trotting out there last year.

Don't forget our ace shooters Matt Carroll and Quinton Ross. :) :lol

I agree with Dick Face. And I like Ross/Carrol as role players.

I definitely didnt say that last year

If Matt Carroll can find his stroke, he's not bad at all as an off the bench shooter.

As long as the three-PG lineup dies with last season, all Mavs fans should be pretty pleased with this offseason. Yeah, the Gortat thing was egg on the face, but overall this is about as good as Donnie Nelson could possibly do.

If we still had Devin at PG and a center we'd be legit contenders

Ghazi

I didn't think about the fact that the fact that his contract is only one year can make him moveable at the deadline if a deal comes up, eh? eh??

I kinda like the gooden... oh well. I'm sure he'll have an impact in dallas...he's moving up the road.

I'll be shocked if BoiBoi plays for us this year. He's very raw.

I would just like to submit to the worried Dallas fans out there: Rick Carlisle is not an idiot.

He managed to use Corliss Williamson in a reserve role quite well. He couldn't play defense or pass, but became 6th man of the year anyways. Give Ricky C a chance to do his magic with Gooden. I think he has earned it.

He damn well better play. I'm a firm believer that getting shipped overseas basically means the guy sucks dick at playing basketball. If he can't come and at least offer a small contribution this year, he'll never amount to anything.

I don't think there are any minutes for him. I can't see a 19 year old rookie that looked really raw in SL getting minutes for a veteran team trying to win. What PG minutes are there for him? I can see him only as a 12th man who gets to mop up in garbage time.

Nonsense. Spurfan claims Mahinmi is the next Robinson, and he played in Europe.

Mavs front court is very strong.
Dirk+Shawn+Drew+Josh+(Eric)......

If Spurs and Mavs met in playoff, it will be a tough 7 games series.

dude, you may as well log in under two troll names respectively on IE and firefox (download and install it if you haven't got one), then two accounts can be used at the same time on Spurstalk and it saves considerable time supposed to be spent in logging in and logging out.

I thought losing bass was a could thing.

But now I see we used the MLE for a player that can actually rebound, score and defend instead of just power dunking.

Gooden can't defend, Holmes. He stands there with his mouth open and just stares at his defender or when he's supposed to help defend.

Pretty much exactly what Bass does on defense.

Wasn't Bass a pretty solid defensive player?

Not at all. Combine dumb as a brick with 3-4 inches undersized and you get yourself a really terrible defensive player. Bass did some very nice things for the Mavericks, but playing defense wasn't one of them.

The best thing about this pickup is it is only for 1 year. If he doesn't work out, his expiring contract would be great to trade at a deadline for possibly a center that we wanted. Of course hoping for a team that wants to dump salary and has a quality center.

With everything the Mavs have been through its a good consolation prize. He won't play much D but at least he can score and rebound. Playing with a good setup PG like Kidd should also help.

He's going to get a chance to beat out Dampier for the starting center position? That's going to be a disaster.

It's a good signing but he'll get murdered by the starting centers around the league.

Solid pickup for the Mavericks and one that works out well with bass leaving.

Gooden > Bass IMO.

Mavericks have had a nice offseason, props.

I wonder if McCants could be had for the LLE. That'd be pretty solid. Upgrade over Wright, Gooden replacing Bass, and adding a top 75 player (Marion) for a corpse (Stack) would be nice! And then we'd still have some expiring contracts to dangle!

It may not push us past the Lakers but what can you do?

We love our boys in blue!

Let's see what is next for us.

I hope we are going after Wafer or McCants(we need another solid option in sg/sf).

But in all sincerity, I think this is a good pick up for the Mavs. It might not be the sort of big they wanted like Gortat, but he should be a contributor off the bench.

It is a good pickup for the Mavs on the offensive end, but on the defensive end not so much. Gooden is a great great player in the post on offense, but is lazy and sometimes very lost on D. Good, not Great move.
