god damnit.
Not bad. Basically does everything Bass would have done. Which makes you wonder why they didn't just keep Bass in the first place. In all honesty, this might be a slight upgrade since Gooden can rebound and Bass is one of the laziest rebounders in the NBA.
He's a perfect fit for Dallas, low Bball IQ and all...
Dirk/Gooden at the 4/5 will be abused on a nightly basis.Hope they dont share too many minutes together.
Gooden's a great addition to the Mavs. He can play the post game when Dirk sits.
Was there somebody better in mind to play the backup PF/C role?
"Not bad" as my man face put it. He was probably the best free agent big man available I think.
Still have the LLE to work with, dunno if thats enough for Wafer/McCants though which I would like... and the "Buck shot" with other contracts to add some talent if anyone swilling to dump salary.
Yeah,im fine with him playing solid minutes from the bench but if he starts, the mavs are in real trouble...
And he can give us low post scoring and rebounding to make up for the loss of Bass
I would rather have Dirk at center and Marion at PF than Gooden at Center and Dirk at power forward. At least we cause a matchup problem in return. Gooden at center really doesn't cause a matchup problem for opposing teams and they will hurt us on the other side. I guess we'll see how he does.
The Mavs are getting themselves a pretty nice bench, which has been really thin lately.
Kidd, Howard, Marion, Dirk, Damp to start games
Terry, Barea, Gooden, Boobouis, hopefully McCants on the bench
I wonder what the end game lineup looks like? Kidd/Terry/Marion/Gooden/Dirk? I don't mind that one bit, although defensively that lineup is either slow & unathletic or athletic & dumb. Still better than that Barea/Terry/Kidd/Bass/Dirk horse they were trotting out there last year.
Don't forget our ace shooters Matt Carroll and Quinton Ross.![]()

I agree with Face. And I like Ross/Carrol as role players.
I'm actually really excited for the upcoming season!
I definitely didnt say that last year
If Matt Carroll can find his stroke, he's not bad at all as an off the bench shooter.
As long as the three-PG lineup dies with last season, all Mavs fans should be pretty pleased with this offseason. Yeah, the Gortat thing was egg on the face, but overall this is about as good as Donnie Nelson could possibly do.
If we still had Devin at PG and a center we'd be legit contenders
I didn't think about the fact that the fact that his contract is only one year can make him moveable at the deadline if a deal comes up, eh? eh??
I kinda like the gooden... oh well. I'm sure he'll have an impact in dallas...he's moving up the road.
I'll be shocked if BoiBoi plays for us this year. He's very raw.
I would just like to submit to the worried Dallas fans out there: Rick Carlisle is not an idiot.
He managed to use Corliss Williamson in a reserve role quite well. He couldn't play defense or pass, but became 6th man of the year anyways. Give Ricky C a chance to do his magic with Gooden. I think he has earned it.
He damn well better play. I'm a firm believer that getting shipped overseas basically means the guy sucks at playing basketball. If he can't come and at least offer a small contribution this year, he'll never amount to anything.
I don't think there are any minutes for him. I can't see a 19 year old rookie that looked really raw in SL getting minutes for a veteran team trying to win. What PG minutes are there for him? I can see him only as a 12th man who gets to mop up in garbage time.
