I agree that there are a ways to go on defense but its pretty hard to judge it when starters don't play that much and probably aren't giving more then 60% on defense.

Blair has bruised backside, but mostly OK
Spurs rookie forward DeJuan Blair left tonight's preseason loss to Indiana with a bruised tailbone, but is otherwise fine.
Blair fell hard at some point midway through the fourth quarter. He isn't sure what happened, but he believed Dahntay Jones fell and rolled underneath him during a rebounding scrum.
"I'm going to be fine," Blair said.
Blair finished with nine points and six rebounds in 15:47 minutes.
It was a black-and-blue kind of night for the Spurs' reserve big men. Ian Mahinmi received four stitches over his right eye after the game, after taking an elbow. He, too, expects to be fine.

Alright, The Btown Spur..
Time to earn your spurs.
No pressure right? It was definitely a very entertaining game to watch. It looked like Pop was playing it like a real game. Assembly Hall is a great place to watch a game, it was a pro game with a college atmosphere. I loved that the band showed up and played in timeouts. They even did the flags at the end of the 3rd quarter which has been tradition at IU for who knows how long. The student sections were pretty full while the rest of the Hall was about half full. There was definitely a good showing of silver and black even though pacer fans were clearly in the majority.
As far as the game goes, I liked for the most part what we did on offense. We had some stupid turnovers, but especially in the first half we were making our shots. In the second half although it was mostly our second unit we got cold and i dont think we were driving as much. Tony hit some key long jumpers, but sometimes i thought he was settling for the jumper instead of driving like he did in the past. By the way it was hilarious when Tony took the clipboard from Pop for the last play, but let me just say Tony needs to stick to playing. dont know if he designed it for bogans to take the last shot but maybe thats how they do it in france?
I sort of feel that Jefferson is still trying to feel things out in the offense, he made one really nice drive to the rim got fouled but missed the layup, but other than that he just settled for a couple jumpers. RJ needs to be more aggressive when he has the ball, but hopefully that will come as the season goes.
I really liked what i saw from McDyess, he ran the court pretty well even receiving a baseball pass, and started a fast break. He threw down a pretty sick dunk a few minutes later.
Ginobili also will hopefully be a little more aggressively as the year goes, but I liked what he did. there was a moment in the second quarter where he bumped knees with a pacer player and he went down that scared the shit out of me, he grabbed his knee for a moment, but then got up.
I saw a tease of Dujaun Blairs potential, he grabbed a couple offensive boards, scored of a put back, and made a couple nice post moves. He got to the line a bunch was terrible from the line. Sometimes he gets himself into a hole, i love his aggressiveness but he needs to learn to dish the ball out to the guards. He looked like he was in pain towards the end, im didnt exactly catch what happened. Im hoping that its nothing big, he was walking on it but grimacing in pain.
Since pop was playing this like a real game, and Hairston played and Marcus williams did not I would say that it looks like Hairston is the one they are going to keep which is good imo. Hairston didnt really do a lot today, and made a bad turnover in the last minute, but i dont really know why he had the ball at that point anyway.
Mahinmi had a couple really nice buckets for the amount of time he was in but i didnt notice him being a presence defensively.
Which leads me to our defense, it looked pretty bad to be quite honest. I kept looking at the scoreboard and being like how are we giving up all these points? 90 after 3? Overall our team defense was just not great, Im hoping this is because our team hasnt played enough together yet, and hopefully it will get better in time. Although i say this and Danny Granger played pretty much the whole game and our big 4 didnt play the last quarter and not much of the second half. but even when they were playing the pacers still were able to score whenever they wanted.
and finally Thank God that the regular officials will be back for the season, these officials made some bad calls on both teams, but i guess that sort of washes out.
Solid game offensively, But our defense needs work, Fun game hopefully they will come back next year! I took some pics but i havent uploaded them yet. Let me know how i did!

Hibbert is going to be a good center for a long time. DeAndre Jordan probably used his athletic ability against Duncan. Plus, it is preseason.

What is with Tim getting shredded by Hibbert and schooled by DeAndre Jordan?
It's a point of concern.
Duncan didn't keep Jordan from getting to the rim last week and it sounded like he had problems with Hibbert tonight.
On the other hand, he was very good against Shaq.
So, what to make of it?
1. Is Tim going to be vulnerable against young bigs?
2. Or, given that these are preseason games, was he only motivated enough to give anything close to full effort against Shaq?
The rest of his game seems to be just fine.
DPG21920
10-23-2009, 10:57 PM
It was a rhetorical question. Still, this highlights Tim's weakness on defense; man-to-man. He is still above average there, but that is his weakness on defense. Tim needs to be a big time defensive presence this year and I hope he continues to be great as the anchor.
I still have serious concerns about the team's defense. I hope it works out.

NBA PRESEASON: PACERS 114, SPURS 112
With Granger at power forward, Indiana puts together big 3rd quarter (http://www.indystar.com/article/20091024/SPORTS04/910240373/Pacers+go+small++and+move+pays+off)
By Mike Wells
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A shortage of healthy bodies forced Indiana Pacers coach Jim O'Brien to go with a small lineup to start the second half of Friday's preseason game against the San Antonio Spurs.
The move paid off.
Using a lineup that had All-Star Danny Granger playing power forward, the Pacers outscored the Spurs by 13 points in the third quarter to help them beat San Antonio 114-112 before 8,029 fans at Indiana University's Assembly Hall.
"I thought we competed well and had a great third quarter," O'Brien said. "We went small because (Troy Murphy) only had seven more minutes he could play. I wanted to be able to start small and it seemed to work out."
The Pacers wrapped up the preseason with a 3-4 record. They open the regular season Wednesday at Atlanta.
"I thought we played hard,'' O'Brien said. "We did some good things and we've got some things we have to clean up.''
The Pacers trailed 61-58 at the half when O'Brien opened the third quarter with a lineup of Granger, Earl Watson, Brandon Rush, Dahntay Jones and Roy Hibbert.
Hibbert, who has had an impressive preseason, scored 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting and blocked two shots in nine minutes in the quarter.
O'Brien wasn't able to go with a small lineup as much as he wanted to in the preseason because of a limited number of healthy wing players.
"That lineup is effective for us at times," Granger said. "If I can rebound like I did (Friday night), then we can go small. That's pretty much the only advantage (opposing teams) would have on us, the rebounding."
The Spurs, who trailed by 12 points in the fourth quarter, had a chance to tie or win the game after the Pacers turned the ball over with 13.2 seconds remaining.
With nothing to lose, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich stayed on the bench and let All-Star guard Tony Parker draw up the final play. The Spurs tried to free up former Broad Ripple High School standout George Hill for a game-winning 3-pointer, but the Pacers defended it well, forcing Keith Bogans to take a contested 30-footer as time expired.

Hairston was out there on the last play.
Another “last” to happen Friday? It's probably the last time Spurs coach Gregg Popovich will close a game with a lineup that includes Keith Bogans, Marcus Haislip, Ian Mahinmi and Malik Hairston instead of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Richard Jefferson

If Bonner isn't starting then the Defense will work its way into shape. Remember, this is a team that hasn't played consistent Defense since the 07-08 season. Its gonna take some time. Oh yeah and how bout' Bonners great performance tonight. Where's Mel13 when you need him. That fool didnt even last a so called "20 minutes". 3 fls and turnover. Yeah, foul calls in a preseason game with replacement refs prove everything you have said is absolutely true.
There's really no debate. Every position Portnoy1 has ever taken is brilliant and beyond reproach. Still think we should trade Tony and RJ?

RJ no, Offense kinda runs through Tony so that would be a bad idea right about now. Even if I wanted to. But just Maybe with the added weapons he'll be as dangerous as CP3. I'll be there Wednesday with a buddy of mine. You Going?

Kinda funny that Dahntay Jones outscored RJ though. You gotta admit.

I'd do it, but since i work nights and certain nights i have obligations it would never work. I try to go to at least 2 games a year. But this year I'm really gonna make an effort best team assembled in a while.

On this we agree. I have a level of anticipation for this Spurs team that I haven't had for any sports team in many years.

I like to get autographs from the visiting team so I save up and Sit near 115 and get there for shootaround to get some autographs. This year I'm for sure gonna get those seats for the Raptors game ( Calderon /Bargnani ) and Later on for the Pacers game ( Foster / Jones / Murphy ).

Ah you noticed!!!! I swear i'll ask Jeff Foster "Hey Mr Foster when you gonna come back and play for your home town team?" At least we are not a few years from being a contender. We are one right now, provided everyone gels.

You're one of my favorite posters.
You're consistent
You're persistent
You're nearly impervious to a barrage of opposing posts
