:lol idiots fighting over SJax and Jefferson, bringing in SJax is not going to resolve the issue where the Spurs are getting murdered

You won't miss anything trading Bonner, Finley and Mason Jr for him. You will get toughness, defense and someone with balls to not play like a pussy.

After that last loss, I think they'll be fine after the half this time. They look far more motivated tonight.

Horrible 1st half..

Duncan is the only guy that has looked good defensively, but his offense has been horrible..

Parker is the only guy that has looked good offensively, but his defense has been horrible, as usual..

I'm going to keep pushing SJAX on everyone here. Stephen is a better defender and a tougher player and cheaper.

Jefferson hasn't impressed me in the slightest since coming to SA. I was hoping we'd bring in a more explosive player like SJax or Carter.

Get Manu off the court please..he's way too erratic of a player when his game is off..
We are gonna lose. Utah is giving us every chance to come back. If they played any better wed be down by 25. We flat out suck. Soft is an understatement. Hope we bring it in the 2nd half

timvp
11-06-2009, 12:01 AM
The interior defense is horrible right now. The perimeter players, especially RJ, are getting beat off the dribble and the bigs aren't doing much at the rim.

Parker is doing pretty good offensively but the Spurs need more than a one-man show on that end. Duncan isn't using his strength and Ginobili is severely out of rhythm and is making bad decision after bad decision.

That said, the Spurs are one solid run from being right back in the game. But they'll actually need some stops and a few players to get hot offensively.

I think we're going to win this. Duncan and Manu can hardly play worse, our defense can't get any more pathetic, and we're down only 10. Utah is pretty thin and if we can hold them for a quarter in the 20 point range I think we can pull it off.

offense seems pretty steady. i don't expect a perfect flow this early in the season. it's the defense that's the problem. bonner isn't doing very well and mcdyess seems lost out there. blair isn't much of a help either. time to put in mahinmi for some stops! ...unless he's not even suited.

A few small things I have noticed that have given me some WTF moments in this first half.

- Has Tim Duncan forgotten that he is allowed to go baseline? That same swing across move to the middle is simply not working. Okur and Boozer can not defend Tim except when he does that move. It goes back to the 07 WCF when Tim was pulling the same crap.

- George Hill is dribbling the ball like Michael Finley. His bounce is to high at the moment and he is fumbling a lot. When he is going for his layups he is sort of forcing the ball up instead of placing it. Strange.

- Manu, stop shooting jumpshots please. The tricky crap he is trying doesn't work when you are running full speed at the defender. The running back ball hug that Manu does is a much more effective way of getting into the key as well as protecting the ball while driving.

- Pop, Richard Jefferson is an isolation, post up and cutting player. Why are you turning him into a slightly more athetlic Finley?

- Don't know what to say about the slow Utah bigmen taking the Spurs bigs off the dribble. No idea how that is happening.

HarlemHeat37

Get Ratliff in the game in the 2nd half..what the fuck is the point of having him on the active roster if you aren't going to use him?..

We were quite awful, still it's only ten points. I guess Manu is going to hit back to back threes or something the next time he enters the game. He can hardly play any worse.

Half-time and the Spurs are still looking anything but sharp out there. Ginobli has got to find his shot or pass the ball.
Attacking the basket more was working on getting to the line and putting their guys in foul trouble. I hope Jefferson and Hill do that more in the 2nd half.

The Spurs are a team in transition. Pop is using last year's rotation in an attempt to shorten the learning curve and get a few early wins. So far, I don't think it's working. Bonner and Finley have shortcomings that overwhelm any chemistry or cohesion positive they bring to the table.

Ugh, I am starting to think we are the Orlando Magic. We are taking way too many jumpers. We need to do the same exact thing Utah is doing, which is pounding it inside and penetrating. When Parker penetrates, he either scores, gets fouled or finds the open man for a good look. We need to do that instead of relying on 3-Pointers from Bonner and Ginobili.

AND, we need to get better on D. Our Post Defense looks pathetic right now, which is way Utah has like a trillion points in the paint. This is why I don't like Matt Bonner getting so many minutes. His defense is pathetic. McDyess is looking like a shell of his former self on Defense too. Why isn't Coach Pop playing Ratliff right now? Isn't this what we got him for? Post Defense? Because right now, Bonner, McDyess and Blair aren't cutting it as help for Duncan on the Defensive End.

Anyway, thank god Tony Parker went into Beast Mode in the 2nd Quarter and we are only down by 10. If it wasn't for him, the lead would be a lot higher. Hopefully we can start penetrating and getting better at Post D in the 2nd Half. I am sure Coach Pop is ramming it into their brains right now.

When I saw this team on paper I was hoping great defense, ease into the offense.

Right now it looks like we are going to have to start from scratch on both. That's a huge huge disadvantage for a team looking to win a championship. Too many new players. We're going to have to pray to the basketball gods that it all starts clicking in a healthy fashion come RRT time.

Also when it comes down to it Barkley is right. We're still a small team. You need youthful length to win in this nba these days.

Not old not-too-mobile bigs.

SouthTexasRancher
11-06-2009, 12:15 AM
If McDyess, Bogans and Mason want a ring they better start showing they want it. Those 3 guys have yet to show diddley squat. Not to mention Bonner who has to be the weakest rebounder for a guy near 7' tall in the league. Yep, this team needs lots of work if we expect to beat out Boston for the Championship. Right now we'd get swept 4-0 by the Celtics. Course so would everybody else!

timvp
11-06-2009, 12:15 AM
A split on this back-to-back would be great. The way it's setup, losing both is very realistic. The Jazz really need this win and then the Blazers tomorrow will try to run the Spurs out of the building.

11-06-2009, 12:18 AM
Also DeJuan Blair is a bad ass steal, no doubt, but he looks wayyy to freakin slow on rotations and getting into position to be a real piece on the floor when we want to clamp down on D. I don't see it as him being confused and hesitant, he just doesn't have that lateral quickness and change of direction quickness to get into a good position.

I'm hoping and hoping it's because of his indecision but he looks slow on rotations.
