The Dallas Mavericks are second in the West with four players and five teams in (Phoenix, Utah, Los Angeles Lakers, Denver, New Orleans) have three former All-Stars.

A misleading thread title. Should read former all stars because most won't ever make an all star game again.

I thought once an all-star always an all-star, kind of like once a champion, etc.

There were/are too many good players out west. I sometimes wonder how much winning a gold medal against Team USA came into play with Manu's one time AS appearance when the coaches voted for him.

I'm surprised that RJ isn't mentioned.

Not much, 'cause if having won a gold medal helps you to get into the all-star game he wouldn't have been snubbed like he was in 07-08.

RJ could have easily been an all-star when he was in Jersey. but he was overshadowed by Vince Carter and Jason Kidd.

RJ played forward in the East.

KG, Bosh, LeBron, Vince Carter, Danny Granger, Paul Pierce snagged all the spots.

Not much different from Derron Williams still waiting to be an All Star

Becoming an All-Star is no small feat. Even a player who was a past All-Star player is probably still better than 60% of the NBA at their position/skill.
