Timmy is only 69 points away from 20,000 points. He should be able to accomplish this either at New Orleans or at home in Utah. After this milestone Duncan will join the small group of 15 players who have collected 20,000 points and 10,000 rebounds in their NBA career.

You think that 4-down without a ball movement would make it?

it seems like in most cases of a career spanning 15 years or less the career averages seem to match the career totals. 21/11 and 20/10

For anyone that may have missed Duncan's response to the milestone.

Duncan: 'It means I'm getting old' (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/courtside/2010/01/duncan-it-means.html)
By Jeff McDonald

Spurs centerpiece Tim Duncan, who needs 94 points to join the NBA's 20,000 point club, was asked before Monday's practice if the impending milestone meant anything to him.

Anything at all.

"It means I've been playing a long time. It means I'm old. It means I'm closer to the end than to the beginning," Duncan said, beginning to chuckle. "It means a lot of things that are negative more than positive."

Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki needs 19 points to reach 20,000. Assuming Nowitzki beats him there, Duncan would be the 35th player in NBA history to hit that plateau.

Pressed, Duncan admitted the accomplishment might mean something to him -- someday.

"It''ll mean something after I'm done," Duncan said. "Looking back on it, it will mean something. Right now, you're in the midst of things. It's hard to see it as an accomplishment or anything else."

Dirk will get to 20,000 faster then Duncan but Duncan will be 1 of the 3 players who are active in the NBA today to have 20,000 points and 10,000 rebounds. The other two being Shaq and KG.

Timmy is only 36 points away. Meaning that he will most likely recieve the standing ovation at home when the spurs face Utah. Unless timmy drops 36 at NO.

sounds similar to the things dirk stated after he reached 20k points (after the lakers games).
for those guys individuall accomplishments are obviosly only a afterthougt, contrary to what fans assume. a thing you can tell your kids when your old and done.

championships are the only important things at their stage of the career.
(but i bet it's a big difference to aim for the first or the fifth )

20,000 of anything is a whole lot.

It would really suck if he gets it at the Hive but there are 6 home games after the Hornets so he should get it at home.

In TD's defense Dirk shoots a ton of 3's though, Duncan doesnt....unless it's in a clutch situation ;) :lol

Sorry for people at the AT&T Center but I would like he hits 20.000 in New Orleans.Looking our team the last 2 games it can't be bad for us if he scoes 40 or 50.

In TD's defense Dirk is a hell of a good player, one of the best offensive bigs ever. TD's also shot significanly fewer shots than Dirk to get to 20k, at least from the field.

Technically Timmy is reaching 2 milestones.

20,000 points and 20,000 and 10,000 rebounds.

Only 15 players ever have gotten 20,000 and 10,000.

Duncan Approaches 20K Points

Tim Duncan is approaching a scoring milestone and is on his way to become only the 35th player in NBA history to score 20,000 points

Quiet, consistent, a pro's pro, Duncan reaches for 20K

It might come on a 15-foot bank. Perhaps an offensive rebound, quick slam and slight pull of the rim. Maybe a flick of his wrist, with just enough for the ball to fall effortlessly through the net. Or at the line. OK, scratch that one.

Whichever way Tim Duncan scores his 20,000th career point, expect little fanfare and even less acknowledgement from him. He knows the milestone is coming, one that just 34 players in the 64-year history of the NBA have reached before, and one that Duncan could achieve Wednesday night in front of his hometown fans.

When it happens, he probably will just turn around and head up the court, setting up the defense with the rest of his Spurs teammates. Like he always does. Milestone or not....

If Tim Duncan scores his 20,000th career point (he is 15 points away), don't look for the game to stop. They'll likely recognize him at the next dead ball or timeout.
