I'm completely lost with how they can get something out of RJ. Only thing I can think of is moving him away from the corner always. have him at the top or 3/4 and allow him to just run his own thing to penetrate.
TP isn't TP right now and we have that other gaping hole to deal with right now. Maybe next game leave Parker out and see if they can get something out of RJ

The best thing that we can take away from this game is Pop finally realized that some of these guys need to be fresh so we need more play from the bigs. Sean in the post game talking about Blair at the SF spot and really going big. I know we all want that other impact big, but the most subtle trade that I think would help is another point guard to help keep down the turn overs and be insruance in case TP breaks. I'm not asking for an allstar, but with Hill better suited for the SG it seems sending someone like Finley would get the job done.

RJ is the main problem because TP, TIm and Manu cano't count on him.
His sole purpose was to help the big three when they are struggling. Has he done that? No.
So how can you say he is not one of the main problems? I stand by what I said. He is one of the biggest problems on the team, not the only problem, but the biggest.

what I can say about tonight. Haislip looked like he began to relax a bit in the minutes he got. I considered his play an improvement from his previous garbage minutes. But nothing that makes me want to place him over RJ.
Mahinmi looked pretty good on the defensive end. Got a bad call or two on him. Didn't have any great touches on the offensive end but I liked his effort there.
Bogans showed a good game for us.
Timmy was pretty solid all night till those last two big plays where we could have taken it. But I can live with that coming from what he has done all season.
I liked George Hill tonight.
Mason was money in the 4th, that last shot would be my only gripe with him but after those back to back shots he took I can live with that also.

Is anyone on the coaching staff even telling RJ to drive to the rack and draw fouls? That is one thing I would really like to know.
If I was coaching him I would rip him everytime he took a contested jumper and didn't try to drive to the rack to draw a foul. I would say that he should only take a jumper when he is open and his first priority on offense it to get the to rack and score or get free throws.

the Spurs are facing 3 issues bigger than RJ
1. Rebounding: Teams are literally breaking the fucking back of the Spurs with those 2nd chance opportunties.
2. Perimeter Defense: Guards are getting into the paint with two dribbles, that's killing any Spurs big every time having to guard 3 players in the paint.
3. Unforced Turnovers: I think we have lost about 6-8 games because of this HUGE problem.
murpjf88

The defense is the biggest problem. They are NOT an elite offensive team. Rj is a huge black hole. He's a tease because he'll play a couple of good game to make you start to believe in him, and then he disappears. But the more I watch manu, the more I see deterioration. His shot looks terrible, and he's constantly losing the ball when he drives. He almost looks sad out their.

LOL I agree with rebounding, but you've just listed 3 things RJ stinks at.
1. For a player his size his rebounding is so poor it's not funny.
2. Perimeter defense. RJ has been burned so much this season by any decent offensive player it's a wonder what Pop was thinking when he said he got RJ to guard the other teams best player.
3. RJ throws sloppy passes and turnovers during games that make you think is this guy even serious out there. Where is his head at?

Bad play too. I liked going to the hot hand, which was Roger Mason, but what is with the rushed shot? We had 21 seconds. We didn't even have to go for a 3-pointer. We could have went for a quick 2. Either way, that was a bad shot. Fade away 3-pointer in the corner the second you get it from the inbound? Even though you had 21 seconds? Ugh, just a bad play.
Either way, we didn't have Bonner, Finley or McDyess. So I guess that eases the pain, lol. I didn't watch the game though, but I watched the last five minutes, and I assumes because RJ wasn't playing, and people here are bashing, that he didn't play very well tonight. That's not good.
Either way, good game. Glad we came back and made it a game, even though we were missing half our Frontcourt. Anyway, see ya next game, against the Hornets.

This applies to any Spurs guard out there, tell me I'm wrong :rolleyes
George Hill, Keith Bogans, and lately TP is playing better defense than RJ. We now know that TP has Plantar Fasciitis so you can give him a slight pass for that.
I said RJ in the main culprit and he is not giving us even half of what I expected. If you are happy with his production or don't think he should be giving us anymore then I don't know what to say.

Didn't I say before that he's part of the problem? Did you see what happened when we were down 1 point tonight? Tim committed an unforced turnover. Everyone right now is having issues with handling the ball. Our guards cannot contain their man or correctly funnel their players to the post.
Thankfully the West is a complete mess with nobody dominating that the Spurs will have a lots of chances to correct these problems.

everybody needs to calm down, we're number four in the west. We have alot to work on but we showed heart to bad it took 3qtrs to get there. It could have gone different, but stuff happens.
Yeah and how many games have they showed heart and done this and came back this year to a near win? They play when they want to it seems, otherwise they take quarters and half games off it seems. It is almost midseason, they need to get it together very soon.
BTW they are 4 right now, but how many losses seperates the #8 from the #4? Not many, a few more losses they fall even further.

3. RJ throws sloppy passes and turnovers during games that make you think is this guy even serious out there. Where is his head at?
big time.
RJ might have the most mental lapses i've seen in a Spur starter in a long time. This season he has had so many turnovers and near-turnovers over stupid things like not paying attention during inbounds plays, during fast breaks, during simple offensive sets swinging the ball around . . . it's comical.

Randolph powers Grizzlies to 8th straight home win (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2010011629&prov=ap)
A late rally couldn’t stop the Memphis Grizzlies from a franchise record for consecutive home wins.
Zach Randolph had 23 points and 15 rebounds, and the Grizzlies beat the San Antonio Spurs 92-86 on Saturday night, setting a standard with their eighth straight home victory.
“When they look at the record book next year or whenever, somebody will say that (Memphis won eight straight at home),” Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins said. “Right now, we want to win. Don’t get me wrong, but I don’t know from eight, seven straight and all of that.
“We’re trying to establish ourselves as a quality team in this league.”
O.J. Mayo scored 19 points and Marc Gasol had 14 for Memphis, which won the second game of a back-to-back for the first time this season.
Tim Duncan led the Spurs with 23 points, eight rebounds and five blocks. Roger Mason had 17 points and Keith Bogans added 13 for San Antonio, which lost its second straight.
Mason keyed the late comeback with a pair of 3-pointers, part of a 12-0 run. His 20-footer cut the Memphis lead to 87-86 with 41 seconds remaining, but Randolph hit five of his six free throws in the final 51 seconds as Memphis won for the fourth time in five games.
“I think we turned our intensity up,” Mason said. “I got some good looks, and we were able to make a run. The biggest thing is, we were making stops, and we were able to get out on the break. Our defensive intensity was turned up, all the way up.”
Duncan connected on 11 of 17 from the field, but took only one shot in the fourth quarter.
Richard Jefferson, who averages 13 points, had three and was 0 for 6 from the field, the first time he has not recorded a made basket in a game since playing 2 minutes on Jan. 8, 2006, for the New Jersey Nets.
“Just a bad game for us that we fought back into, and just couldn’t get over the top,” Duncan said.
San Antonio, which trailed by as many as 14 in the second half, turned up the defensive pressure in the final period but could never overtake Memphis, which snapped a five-game losing streak to the Spurs.
“We’re maturing. We’re getting better, but we can get a lot better,” Gasol said. “We got up 14, and they almost came back and won the game, so we can get better.”
San Antonio took an early lead behind accurate shooting. Duncan hit his first five shots and had 13 first-half points, all in the opening quarter.
Memphis, coming off a 135-110 victory Friday over Minnesota, seemed sluggish at the outset, but the Grizzlies were matching San Antonio inside, and the game eventually settled into a physical contest.
San Antonio’s biggest troubles came in the second quarter. The Grizzlies overtook the Spurs with a 14-3 run in the middle stages of the period. Mayo’s layup in the closing seconds of the half gave the Grizzlies a 52-42 lead at the break as Gasol had 11 points.
“That put us in the hole,” Duncan said of the second period, when Memphis outscored the Spurs 28-15. “They were aggressive. They were hitting shots and getting offensive rebounds. We were turning the ball over. We did just about everything we could to shoot ourselves in the foot.”
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich added: “We were soft, and it put us in a hole that took us the whole (second) half to try and recover from.”
Memphis stretched the margin to 14 in the third, as Duncan was the only one helping San Antonio stay within striking distance. Duncan scored 10 in the third period, and San Antonio cut the deficit under double digits a couple of times late in the quarter before Memphis carried a 75-65 lead into the fourth.
“The Grizzlies did a good job,” Popovich said. “They pressured and denied. They were aggressive and physical.”
The Grizzlies seem to be controlling their home court and gaining confidence, beating the Spurs, Dallas Mavericks, Cleveland Cavaliers and other top-level teams.
It’s enough confidence to invoke a word many never expected them to use this season.
“This is what the playoffs is all about,” Hollins said, “and we can do that—whenever we are going to do it. I’m positive we’re going to do it one time.”
NOTES: San Antonio had not lost to Memphis since Dec. 19, 2007. … Spurs reserve F/C Antonio McDyess missed only his second game of the season, sitting out with neck and back spasms. His injury probably assured Duncan of playing against the Grizzlies. The Spurs, at times, have chosen to sit Duncan on the second game of back-to-backs “to put some insurance in the bank” for later in the season, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said in pregame comments, adding that Duncan “wanted to play.” … Spurs rookie F DeJuan Blair and Grizzlies reserve F Sam Young both played last season at Pittsburgh and were chosen with consecutive picks in the draft—Young 36th and Blair 37th. … After starting 1-8, Memphis has won 20 of its last 30. Memphis is 14-5 at home.

Wanting to punch Duncan in the face was not something literal. When you miss bunnies that kill momentum, everyone gets mad. I am sure Tim was more mad at himself than I could be. I don't know why this needs explanation.
