Pop is the biggest problem. We need a new coach. He's lost the players.
I believe you are correct. It eventually happens to all coaches. The NBA game has passed the old fart by and he is too damn hardheaded to know it. Course this particular Spurs team has about as low a basketball IQ as I've ever seen. And when it comes to defense......what defense! This team just flat out sucks!

Wrong. Even if a 16 (14) pt lead was gained while a small ball lineup was in play, it doesn't absolve that same small ball lineup from giving up that lead because they can't defend the rim.

26 BOARDS FROM TIM. Awesome effort.
Why does every big Manu missed three this season always turn into a huge momentum swing. After Manu missed that last three the Pacers came down and drilled one to make it a 3 point game. Seems like that happens a lot with Manu's missed momentum threes. Maybe he should stop shooting them?
Anyone agree?

That was posted before the final 5 points he scored. My internet went down. It would have been posted with about 3-4 minutes left.
Still he took another momentum 3 after those 5 points and missed it and then Indy drilled a 3 to make it a 3 point game.
Manu has got to stop shooting those momentum 3s with lots of time left on the clock. I'm not talking about this game but in general because they usually turn into a momentum swing the other way for the other team nearly every fucking time this season.

Duncan boarded like a beast and did a solid job protecting the rim, but offensively, it's deja vu from around this time last season. He can't make a shot to save his life and has lost a lot of mobility. Feet glued to the ground, no quickness or burst whatsoever...yet the genius Pop continues to play him as the lone big, asking him to cover oodles of ground and expend energy that a player his age with his mileage shouldn't be expending on a gamely basis.

Manu ginobili can take any fucking shot he wants.

If your definition of a point guard is to create in pick and roll opportunities, then Manu has been playing the point guard role for nearly 7 years.

That's part of it sure. But there are other aspects, such as shooting less, that I think would benefit the team. Parker stopped taking threes for the most part because he couldn't hit them consistently. Unfortunately Manu has really had trouble shooting this season. I'd like to see the coaching staff tell him to be their main facilitator.

I said it weeks ago to Ruff that Manu will play a lot better. I said he is out of form and will play a lot better later on.
Anyway, the main problem I am having is all those 3s that Manu is shooting that end up missing and turning into a momentum swing for the other team. He's gotta cut those turnovers out too with that cross court pass.

Parker leads Spurs past Pacers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2010021711&prov=ap)
By Cliff Brunt
A bit of rest and relaxation in Malibu was all a hobbled Tony Parker needed to start blowing by the competition again.
Parker returned after missing San Antonio’s final game before the All-Star break because of a strained left hip flexor. Fresh off a four-day vacation with wife Eva Longoria, he scored 28 points to help the Spurs beat the Indiana Pacers 90-87 on Wednesday night.
“He didn’t get to stay in shape, he hasn’t been able to do anything,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “Considering that, my God. He scored, he moved the basketball, he was really important to us running the show.”
Parker said he struggled at times during his 39 minutes of action.
“I got tired in the second half and my hip was getting tired,” Parker said. “We’ll see what we do for the next game, but overall I was OK. Can’t do every movement, I can’t go full speed, but I’m a vet, so I know how to get by.”
Tim Duncan had just eight points on 4-for-23 shooting, but had 26 rebounds and five assists. He had 10 rebounds in nine minutes in the fourth quarter.
“That’s why he’s a Hall of Fame player,” Pacers guard T.J. Ford said. “I don’t know too many guys in this league that can go 4-for-23 and still help his team win.”
Duncan said it was possibly the worst shooting game of his career, but he made up for it by “going Mo Malone on them.” It was a reference to Moses Malone, the powerful post player who spent his best years with the Houston Rockets and Philadelphia 76ers in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
He joked that his futility padded his offensive rebounding stats.
“I got a jump on it because I was missing so many shots,” Duncan said. “I guess I knew where the ball was going.”
Parker said Duncan’s effort was key.
“That is what’s great with T.D.—even if he has a bad shooting night he’s always going to do other stuff,” Parker said. “He was huge on the boards, he was huge on defense. Even if he was not blocking shots, he was deflecting shots. He’s just a presence.”
Manu Ginobili added 18 points, seven assists and six rebounds for the Spurs.
Danny Granger scored 23 points, Roy Hibbert had 14 points, seven rebounds and six blocks, and Troy Murphy added nine points and 16 rebounds for Indiana.
The Spurs won despite shooting just 35 percent from the field.
“If you would have told me we would hold them to 35 percent shooting, I would think we had a chance,” Pacers coach Jim O’Brien said.
Duncan’s 11 offensive rebounds helped the Spurs take 16 more shots than the Pacers.
“We played hard,” Granger said. “We got our hands on a lot of balls. We just got killed on the offensive boards. That’s kind of been the tale of our season.”
Popovich switched up his lineup, starting Keith Bogans and Matt Bonner instead of Jefferson and Antonio McDyess to counter Indiana’s small lineup.
San Antonio led 51-45 at halftime before getting hot in the third quarter. A free-throw line jumper by Duncan closed out a 7-0 run that gave the Spurs a 64-50 lead.
Indiana rallied at the end of the third quarter. Two free throws by Hibbert capped an 11-3 run at the end of the period that trimmed San Antonio’s lead to 69-67.
Indiana took its first lead of the second half early in the fourth quarter on Ford’s short jumper in the lane.
The lead seesawed until the final minutes. Richard Jefferson hit a 3-pointer, then Ginobili converted a 3-point play to give San Antonio a 90-84 advantage.
Granger made a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left to make it 90-87.
The crowd stood, hoping the Pacers could get a stop. Ginobili drove, but Hibbert blocked his shot. Duncan rebounded and kicked the ball out to George Hill, who heaved a desperation 3-pointer as the shot clock expired. The ball was tipped around until the Spurs gained control and ran out the clock.
“That last play of the game was almost picture perfect for them,” Murphy said. “This isn’t the way we would have liked it to end tonight.”
NOTES: Pacers F Tyler Hansbrough still is out with an inner ear infection. He has missed the past month. … Hill, an Indianapolis native who started for the Spurs, finished with six points and four rebounds … Spurs F DeJuan Blair committed five fouls in 10 minutes of play.

I said I had it with his turnovers. That is true, but it was frustration for the whole season. He needs to stop throwing those bad cross court passes.

...which is why I quoted it so you'd know what I was referring to. You went off on how sick you are of a guy who made the plays at the end of the game because of his two turnovers. Seriously, you need to have your head examined for that statement if you're going to try to defend it. My issue was with that post and only with that post. If you'd like to discuss the threes he's been missing that he normally hits, we'll talk about it, but after the performance he just put up, especially at the end, criticizing his game is going to come off as nit-picky.

I have explained that when I said "I HAVE HAD ENOUGH" that I was talking about turnovers for the whole season. I'm not going to apologize because I didn't spell that out for you or write it out properly.
It was a build up of frustration, and if you notice all season I hardly have said anything bad about Manu. Why did I chose that moment to say it? I was pissed off at that point as I thought about all his turnovers in previous games this season and didn't care for yet another cross court pass turnover from Manu.
Winning a game doesn't mean everything is all good an no one can be criticized so I don't know why you think it's wrong to say anything after the game, even if he did have a good game. We didn't pay that good of a team in Indiana and could have even lost this game.
I do want to talk about the missed threes which is why I wrote it like 3 or 4 times.

Manu always had those turnovers... obviously, it's more obvious now that he's been assigned backup PG duties and he has the ball in his hand more. I said plenty of times I wish we had a legitimate backup PG so he can go back at playing SG, which obviously is what he's the most comfortable with.
About his shooting, well, it just hasn't been there this season so far. Two seasons ago he just couldn't miss. I'm sure if he knew what it was, or if there was something he could do about it, he would. That said, I'm glad he keeps on shooting. Eventually they're gonna go in.

I am a huge Manu fan and I those turnovers weren't that big of a deal to me before, but with the Spurs struggling they can be a big deal if he makes them in critical times.
Anyway, the shooting I usually agree with too, love that he keeps taking that shot, but now I am starting to wonder if he should only take the wide open threes and maybe go inside and look for a midrange jumper or drive to he rack instead. I'm still going to think about it though because like you said I am not sure I want him to stop taking those shots. After a miss I do, but probably overall I'd want him to keep shooting.
So you think he should keep shooting. Good. That is one opinion and I wanted more people to give their opinions on it too.

i was at the game tonight, i just noticed a few things. Obviously, duncans shots were just not falling. Shots he normally makes in his sleep were just not going in. Im hoping this is just a one game thing, but who knows. However, he brought down a ton of boards and got the spurs a lot more chances at the offensive end.
Tony, on the otherhand seemed like he couldnt miss. His jumper was going in early and often and later in the game he started driving to the rim more.
Ginobili made a couple of plays in the last 2 minutes that really seeled it including a 3-point play. Hopefully hell continue to be clutch in end of game situations
A couple of the lineups pop threw into the game i didnt completely understand. Including the starting lineup, I didnt understand starting bonner who only played 13 minutes in the game. it doesnt really help chemistry when you have a different starting center each game. Also, I understand going small when Timmy is the 5, but at the end of the 3rd quarter Pop had a lineup where it was all small and Blair was playing center matched up against Roy Hibbert who is a good 6 inches taller than Blair. Blair tried to do too much and committed bad fouls (5 in 10 minutes) and thats when Indiana made their run that eventually took the lead for a few minutes. Im a big fan of blair, but i dont know how Pop can expect anyone to guard or try to score on someone that is 6 inches taller him.
Honestly if duncan hits half his shots we put them away much earlier in the game, but our defense and rebounding was pretty solid, and were 1-0 after the allstar break.

Manu's turnovers were not the problem. He and Tony in fact were big reasons for why the Spurs won .
Tim had a lot of good looks from lay-ups to open jumpers that just kept missing. Boarded really well on both ends however.

I just wanted to say that I like the last two minutes of the game. It's not perfect, but the Spurs didn't do anything stupid or aggravating...they kind of played like last year's Spurs did in the closing minutes. The end of the game had that feeling and the toughness in the last possession was nice to see. :)
