Booing means sh*t in Argentina, maybe trying to impersonate a ghost. If they want to get on his nerves they will have to try harder.

Good lord, no.

I hate the fans chanting BS, BS. It was stupid. I think the officiating in game three was horribly one sided in the second half, but that doesn't mean you do that in a venue where there are children watching a basketball game.

Ginobili was being booed mainly for one single play. The flop on the "elbow" by Buckner. The talk shows were filled with a lot of angry people about that play and it spilled over into their view of his overall game.

To be honest, that flop offended me. Elbows to the face are serious things. It's the type of thing someone can be ejected over. I don't think you fake that. I think it cheapens the game and though I'm a fan of Manu, I don't think it was one of his finer moments.

That said, the Nuggets fans who think that ALL he does is flop are idiots who don't know a lot about the game. He's a sensational player. Maybe he did go to the line more than he should have in game three (I certainly am among the people who think he did). That's not his fault. He's playing the game to win, not to worry about what other people think.

Boo the refs if you're pissed at them. (not scream BS at them, BOO them) Leave Manu alone.

I just hope Manu doesn't make a habit of the type of play he made against Buckner. That will certainly impact my view of him in the future.

Obstructed_View
05-03-2005, 02:52 AM
My take on that elbow was completely different. The way I saw it Manu was ducking away from an elbow he knew was coming, not pretending that it landed. He knew it was coming because Buckner had just landed an elbow on him five seconds earlier. Ginobili knew he was under Buckner's skin so he crowded him, but Buckner threw it so hard I think it surprised him, so he fell. As far as I know, throwing an elbow like that, even if it doesn't land is, by rule, and automatic technical. They ruled no foul, and Buckner got off easy, considering that he's been anything but clean in this series.

All that said, it was ruled no call, and the Nuggets got the ball back, so Nuggets fans complaining about a flop that resulted in absolutely nothing makes no sense whatsoever.

SilverPlayer
05-03-2005, 03:10 AM
Seriously that wasn't a flop, that was just common sense, he was about to get hit. Him avoiding the contact actually prevented a situation where buckner would have been immediately ejected.

Thats really the dumbest complaint I have heard about a flop in my life. It saved your player from an ejection.

"with that last 3"

I wanted yet another 3, even a missed shot, as the Spurs ran the clock out in the last possession.

The convention is for the winner not to try to score insulting in that situation, not to kick the loser when he can't get up, but the Denver fans are beyond conventions. When a born-champion and proven, repeat natural winner, a clean-playing, hustling competitior, is playing incredible basketball to beat the shit out of you, you sit quietly and take it. But the Denver seat-fillers boo Manu the entire game as if he was some kind villain. What a fucked up bunch of losers. The Nuggets and their fans deserve each other, and their 4th straight loss Wed night.

Troy you are a fan that makes sense... so rather than try to dissuade you, I'll leave you with this:

Manu clearly avoids the elbow as he is trying to get in closer to Buckner, in pulling his face back, the whole body falls where the head is falling... But, never did Ginobili pretend to be hit in the face. Look at the replay, Ginobili doesn't touch his face in anguish, nor does he check his nose for blood (all signs of actually getting hit... or someone faking a shot to the face). He knew he wasn't hit.

The question then is... does Ginobili exaggerate his movements.??? Yes, he certainly does, but all of his movements are exaggerated... all of the them, ofensively, defensively, while driving, while blocking, while stealing... everyone of his movements is unorthodoxically exaggerated... even his quite comical step-back jumper... Because of his exaggerated corporal movements, he tries to run through screens with players he knows are still shuffling their feet... he's that much quicker... But that my friend... is savvy... and if he's willing to take the punishment...

Granted, I know for a fact Ginobili does flop at least once per game... but that particular play was not a flop.

I have it taped and have watched it several times. If you have it taped you'll see Buckner swung his elbow and Manu bent back. Buckner then leaned into a bent back Manu who fell the rest of the way over. It wan't until Buckner leaned into Manu's chest that Manu went down. If you have a replay refute that.

That elbow swing is a message "don't play me tight on defense". It's like a headhunters pitch to back a guy off the plate. If Manu had happened to lean forward at the same time Buckner swung there could have been some nasty results. It shoud be whistled. There's no place for it in the game.

Have you taken note of the fashion in which Buckner has taken out his frustrations on Manu in this series? Manu has every reason to believe that the elbow was directed at his noggin and to protect himself. I don't think he had any intention of trying to get Buckner ejected -- had that been his tack, he would have argued with Danny Crawford vociferously after play was stopped.

If you respect hard-nosed play, you've got to respect Ginobili's lack of bitching about the no-call on that play and his unwillingness to call for any suspensions after the Nugget three-way he took in the lane at the end of Game 3. Talk about unnecessary and unseemly!!

And again, you can complain about the officiating at the end of Game 3, but I don't recall the officials holding the Nuggets to 78 points. I thought it was interesting that Karl blamed everyone but his team for the last 2 losses.

How soon we forget. San Antonio offered the same treatment for Juwan Howard in Game 2 of the 2001 West Semis. From the May 8, 2001 Express-News: "Mavericks forward Juwan Howard got the reception everyone expected. He was booed every time he touched the basketball."

I'm not defending Denver fans, but I am saying that Spurs fans have done the same (albeit with far more justification).

Ok seriously now...booing a player in the NBA for good reasons like raping someone while you're on a team trip is one thing...but booing a player just because your team choses to foul him rather than defend and when the smoke cleared you still went home loosers...Thats classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Booing K-Mart when Denver traveled to Jersey because money was more important than loyalty...now thats a reason to boo someone. But booing just because a player can still make freethrows after being beaten up and left with bloody for choosing to drive the lane...That just spells out " N O C L A S S "!!!!
Here is my thought...why don't we as SPURS fans give Denver something to listen to while they sit their cold butts at home watching their team lose. Everytime and I mean EVERYTIME Manu touches the ball tonight we should cheer :blah and screen :spin as loud as possible. So Denver players can hear what it's like to actually have the RESPECT of your true fans.

And as for K-Mart...Next time you foul out ( since your defence is more of a boxing style than actual game )... GET YOUR "YELLOW SOCK :lol " WEARIN' *** OFF THE COURT SO WE DON'T HAVE TO WAIT SO LONG TO SEE YOUR FANS LEAVE EARLY AND YOUR TEAM LOSE IN THE END ANYWAY!!!!!!!!! :pctoss

Check this in Spanish

Link (http://www.lanacion.com.ar/deportiva/nota.asp?nota_id=701309&origen=relacionadas)

Liga Nacional 1996/97. Iba directo a mi boca.

I translated it:

Bahia Blanca.
Estudiantes, with a skillfull skinny and brave kid that came in scoring 25 points a game at 19 years was the story of the season, his team received the glorious Atenas. One of the centers, strong, ballsy and ex-player in the national team prepared to let this kid, Manu Ginobili know that it would not be so easy to score points this time. "The first time he came in the lane, I dropped him strong to the floor. I thought that was enough. A few minutes later he came at me again, one on one, I had to drop him again... I never thought he would be so brave. A little later he came straight to me with all his might, he jumped so high and if I hadn't moved my head he would have hit it with his knee. It was going straight to my mouth. That's when I realized he was a phenom." the ex-player said.

In the NBA, and especially in Denver, it seems they still don't realize. Ginobili was hit violently, Karl critizized him harshly and the fans booed him the other night each time he had the ball. To Manu, the hits and the hostility encourage him, motivate him and pump him up. The more they hit him the more important he feels, he concentrates more and transforms from victim to criminal. He is merciless, he lights up and charges; he doesn't loose tactical, emotional or psychological control. He finds the best in him. How many athletes would pay to have that mentality?

Manu provokes impotence and then chaos on his opponent. And eventhough he shows pain, inside he seems to enjoy it. Few know that because of this attitude and risky style of play he was taken out in a stretcher and hospitalized a few years ago in Bahia Blanca, after dunking and hitting his head on the floor. His mother knows best and never goes to see him or watches his games in tv. She is always afraid he will get hurt. Its his mom.

Maybe this is why his coach placed him in the bench this series. It could be taken as an agression that will turn Manu into a tornado of energy and winning courage.
