Outhustled the FUCK out of the mavs, too many fucking offensive rebounds lol. Dirk couldn't hit shit as well as Butler but at least Terry finally hit some shots. Mavs decision to play who at center is tough:Damp plays Duncan better but overall Haywood is better and a bigger interior presence.

Series is not over yet, looking for the Mavs to make a statement in Game 3 :downspin

Just what I said best post player STILL ...

Not to bring up Kobe but when the chips are down Tim and Kobe are STILL the best!

Durant and Howard maybe better for a season and to build a franchise around but last 3 mins I want the best post player and closer ...kudos tim.

I always thought Tim and Kobe would have been a better combo than Shaq and Kobe.

Shaq has been pretty lucky with the guards he's had.

Great game!! Glad to see Jefferson contributing well to the game in the first half; and Parker did a lot better this game. Ginobli was awesome as well. And Duncan showed us why he's such an amazing player. The defense was pretty solid throughout most of the game; putting a lot of pressure on the Mavs and Nowitzki, except for some times in the second half where Terry and Nowitzki got open.

Those fast breaks were a little scary though. Those two shots near the end of the fourth quarter by Duncan definitely sealed the victory for us. Looking forward to Game 3 baby.

I wasn't big on the McDyess acquisition at first because I wasn't sure he had enough left in the tank, but as I mentioned earlier in the thread, he looked like Djuan out there tonight. Props to him for manning up on the boards when we DESPARATELY needed it....he played bigger than Damp and Blaylock combined. Nice to see him turn it up for the playoffs, which actually started towards the end of the season. Keep it going Dice.

And, just like that, the Spurs are in the driver's seat in this series. Now the Spurs have homecourt advantage.

Drivers seat huh? Nice to see you guys had to have a flawless game (minus a few missed ft's) in order to stick around in this series. BUt you're not in the drivers seat. But if it makes you sleep better tonight, have at it. Mavs will not not play that badly again, you know it. Dont kid yourselves spurs fans. Jefferson hounds Mavs, helps carry Spurs in Game 2 (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2010042106)
By Jaime Aron

Tony Parker saw the crowd gathered around Richard Jefferson and couldn’t resist teasing him.

“Man, one big game,” Parker said, smiling. “Look at all this.”

Jefferson took it in stride. After all, he was probably glad Parker didn’t woof or bark.

Knowing he was among the guys Spurs coach Gregg Popovich thought “played like dogs” in the opener, Jefferson bounced back by scoring 17 of his 19 points in the first half to help San Antonio beat the Dallas Mavericks 102-88 in Game 2 on Wednesday night. The win ties their first-round series at a game apiece, with the next two games in the Alamo City.

“You could see it in his eyes that he was motivated,” Parker said. “Nobody likes to play bad and he knew he didn’t have a good first game. Knowing his mentality, we knew he was going to come back.”

Jefferson matched the measly four points he had in Game 1 points before some fans were even settled into their seats. He was 7 of 9 by halftime, and was at his best during a 12-1 run late in the second quarter that broke the game open for good. He got it started with a fadeaway jumper and a finger roll, then added a reverse layup after the Mavericks somehow lost track of him.

“My teammates were looking for me, coming off the pick-and-roll and throwing it back to me,” Jefferson said. “That’s pretty much my game. After I struggled the last game, I think there was a concerted effort to get me involved.”

Tim Duncan was San Antonio’s second-half star, scoring 17 of his 25 points then, often just in time to douse Dallas rallies. He also had 17 rebounds.

“We went to Tim just about every other time down the stretch,” Popovich said. “He came through by scoring and rebounding at the other end.”

Mavs star Dirk Nowitzki went from hardly missing in Game 1 to hardly making. The Spurs didn’t even smother him; merely knowing they were creeping his way threw Nowitzki out of whack. He missed six of his first seven shots, and even missed a free throw after having made 88 in a row.

“If they give me those same looks on Friday, I’ll take them,” said Nowitzki, who finished with 24 points, down from 36 in the opener.

The Mavericks played their best only after they seemed to have buried themselves—down 16-5 early, they got within one by the end of the quarter; down 80-60 late in the third quarter they scored 12 straight points; back down 13 early in the fourth, they clawed within five. However, they never led and have now given away home-court advantage.

Game 3 is in San Antonio on Friday night, and the folks down there are probably especially looking forward to seeing Mavs owner Mark Cuban, who fanned the flames of the rivalry in recent days by repeatedly saying, “I hate the Spurs.”

“We’ve lost at home to them many times, so we’ve just got to stay humble, keep working hard, knowing full well that it’s going to be a long series,” Manu Ginobili said.

San Antonio built its leads by playing smart.

The Spurs held onto the ball (only nine turnovers, down from 17 in Game 1), forced their way to the rim, then took advantage of the space that opened up for longer-range jumpers. In the game-breaking second quarter, their inside-out attack produced 34 points on 68 percent shooting.

“They were a hot-shooting team and we were unable to keep them from being a hot-shooting team,” Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. “When the ball’s in the air, it’s anybody’s ball. They came up with all those plays. They got the loose balls and they were more opportunistic.”

Ginobili had 23 points, including a 3-pointer with 1:48 left that he punctuated with a celebratory punch as fans began rushing toward the exits.

Parker, still coming off the bench, had 16 points and eight assists.

None of the other “dogs” made a big dent in the stat sheet, but they didn’t have to. Jefferson filled the scoring void and everyone else filled their roles.

“We just played sharper than we did the other night, by that I mean not fouling and taking care of the ball,” Popovich said. “We were focused.”

Jason Terry was a non-factor most of Game 1 for Dallas, but he hit his first two shots and kept looking for his shot all night. He finished with 27 points. Caron Butler scored 17.

The Mavs got only five points from their center tandem of Erick Dampier and Brendan Haywood, all from Haywood. Jason Kidd was 1 of 7 for five points and Shawn Marion had just six.

“When we’re cold on the offensive end we’ve got to dig in defensively a little bit better,” Haywood said. “We’ve got to lock up a little better and we didn’t do that tonight. They had way too many offensive rebound opportunities and they scored almost every time they got an offensive rebound.”

Sure enough, San Antonio scored 23 second-chance points, Dallas just nine. That 14-point difference matched the final margin.

NOTES: The Spurs got to the line more, but wasted the chances. They missed eight of 22 free throws. … Dallas’ Eddie Najera went from not playing the opener to being first off the bench when Nowitzki got his second foul. … Popovich changed his rotation, too, leaving Keith Bogans on the bench after using him 16 minutes in Game 1. … Hill made his first field goal of the series in the fourth quarter. He was 0 for 2 in the opener, and 0 for 4 until swishing a 3-pointer.

I'm interested in your take. What did you think of the game?

I preface this by saying I have not looked at the box score or advanced stats (points off of turn overs, from offensive rebounds...)

1) This was a very good win. It was a must win and the Spurs took care of the job. A loss would have been insurmountable imo. It is not easy to win on the road against a well balanced, talented team.

2) This win however, did not give me anymore confidence or change anything (although it kept the Spurs alive in the series). I still feel the same as I did going into the series.

3) Spurs did a good job at cleaning up the problem stats (Rebounds, Turnovers and Free Throws). Having said that, while seemingly those things look better on paper, a lot of those things are still problems. Yes the Spurs rebounded better, but they gave up timely offensive rebounds that actually led to points for the Mavs and allowed them to stay in it. They did not turn the ball over as much, but when they did, they were in the worst moments and led to easy baskets that fueled the runs for the Mavs. Spurs evened out the FT's, but did not execute at the line. This is what I mean by the cleaned up the problem stats on paper, but not so much in impact.

4) RJ, with a good first half, then invisible 2nd half really gives me pause. Hill looks shaky still and I don't know what the problem is. Spurs need to be able to consistently rely on them in order to have a chance. I don't know what to expect.

5) Dice played a lot better and that is very encouraging.

6) Pop's rotations were much improved and that bodes well.

7) Still nothing from the real role players, but not terrible.

All in all, this game poses more questions than answers. I feel like the Mavs can shoot poorly, but always be in the game. I also feel they can lock the Spurs up when they want, but the Spurs can't do that to them. If the Spurs have a poor shooting game, like the Mavs did, I don't see them hanging around.

But, this is a start and I hope everyone keeps playing their hardest. The big 3 look great and that is the most important thing.

Yup...that sometimes happens when you have a huge lead...you tend to throttle back and coast...that often lets the other team back in the game. Thing is, the Spurs never lost the lead. WIRE TO WIRE!!! :hat
