I feel like I should care...but I don't.

Surprised there wasn't some parting shot at the refs. I guess there's still time.

I doubt he retires if they win it all. He would want to go for that 4th 3 peat. If they fail to repeat, then I could see it.

That being said, Laker fans, who would you like the most as a Jackson heir. I hear the name Brian Shaw quite a lot. Has he been learning under Phil?

Good luck with Byron Dumbass, Lakeshow.

Say for some reason Phil decides to coach another team, he won't trade LA scenery for Cleveland scenery.

Even after this run by the Lakers ends, the Lakers will reload within 2-3 years. They never stay average for long. They have done this their entire history and I don't expect that to change.

Reloading to become better than average versus legitimate contention are two different things. Remember, it was 12 years between the Magic Lakeshow and the Shaq-Kobe championships. They may reload more quickly than any other NBA franchise, but that doesn't mean after this particular run is over that they'll be title contenders again in 2-3 years.

It all depends on who the coach is. That 90's team had the talent but didn't have the coaching.

I already said goodbye to him in 1998 and then again for the "final" time in 2004

all of this post-jordan/shaq lakers nonsense is just the Lakers/Kobe begging Phil to come back and paying him $12 million per season. Phil thought it was hard to say no to that kind of cash, plus his wife kept nagging him.

he really doesn't want to coach Kobe, nobody would

Where's Cully with his little cut/paste on how Kobe let him back in?

Kobe/Lakers BEGGED Phil to come back

One of the BIGGEST ways to start repairing Kobe's "image" is to make amends with the guy who has won 9 championships (at the time) and wrote a book in which he called him "Uncoachable"

secondly, the lakers would have had to suffer through years of shitty coaches.

They had to pay him 12 mil a season to convince him to come back.

The Showtime era ended in 91, and we were already back at it in 96 with signing Shaq.

That's like saying the New Jersey Nets were title contenders in 2001 and 2002. The 1991 Lakers making it to the Finals only exposed how weak the Western Conference was during that transition time of the Boston/Lakers 80s until the Duncan Spurs and Shaq Lakers started to emerge in the late 90s.

And the Lakers didn't get back to legit title contention until they hired Phil Jackson. As if Mike Dunleavy, Kurt Rambis, or Del Harris could make any of those Laker teams serious contenders.... ummm, no.

Back? Back to what? The playoffs? Eight teams make it from each conference. BFD. The fact is, if you subtract the Jackson years, there would be a 20+ year championship drought in LA.

I expect Phil to either retire (I read the show transcript. He's not at all wild about the 82 game season) or go wherever LeBron does. He's a talent vampire. He rides each "best player" into the ground and then moves on.

Jackson's rich as fuck and doesn't have anything left to prove. I'd run off to Montana too.

It's a contract ploy. Phil already said earlier he was coming back for another year.
