back on the trade of Parker or Hill possibility...

I read on RealGM.com that Indiana turned down an offer from Minnesota of Flynn, 16th and 23rd for the 10th in return.

Why in the world would you turn that down UNLESS you had a better offer on the table...

Yea, Indiana was getting bashed from all cylinders for this yesterday when news of this came out.

But you do bring up a good point here. If this involve us though, I would be a little unhappy as the "advertised" offer given to us would suck balls!

When the guys taken after include:

O.J. Mayo, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love, Eric Gordon, Brook Lopez, Anthony Randolph, and hell, even Jason Thompson.

I'd say picking him #2 was bust-worthy.

beasley's been better than thompson, randolph, and gordon.

the other 4 have been better thus far, but that draft is proving to be a much deeper one that originally thought.

beasley, despite the inconsistencies, has still had 2 above average NBA seasons before his 22nd birthday. he'll never be the franchise player of a championship team (i doubt any of the guys you mentioned will be either) - but I expect him to settle into Lamar Odom with a jump shot. And that's NOT a bust.

beasley's been better than thompson, randolph, and gordon.Even if he's been marginally better, would you still take him over those guys regardless of draft position? Oh and he definitely hasn't been better than Eric Gordon.

beasley, despite the inconsistencies, has still had 2 above average NBA seasons before his 22nd birthday. He was the #2 pick and he doesn't have a clear position on the floor.

he'll never be the franchise player of a championship team (i doubt any of the guys you mentioned will be either)Westbrook, Mayo, Gordon, and Lopez all have so much more potential.

- but I expect him to settle into Lamar Odom with a jump shot. And that's NOT a bust.
Only he's not as long and doesn't rebound. He's a bust as the #2 pick.

He's been better than Gordon, just not quite as much PT - but the per 36 and PER numbers are better.

Beasley's rebounding has been hurt by having to split time at the 3. He'll find some success - whether that's a rich man's Lamar Odom or a poor man's Chris Bosh - when he is played exclusively as a slightly undersized 4. The guy led the NCAA in rebounding his first year in it. Rebounding USUALLY translates well to the next level - so I'm not ready to write him off on that just yet. 8 boards/36 isn't awful.

If he's settles into an efficient 18/9 - not an outlandish prediction for a guy who is a fairly efficient 15/6.5 as a 21 year old - there's nothing wrong with that. Maybe a little disappointing for the #2 pick in a deep draft - but under no circumstances is that indicative of a bust. If you're going to label Beasley as a "bust", a word that usually brings to mind guys like Olowokandi, Bowie, and Milicic, then we just need to retire the term because it's far too broad to be a worthy identifier.

Grizzlies, Wolves Swapping Draft Picks (http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/06/22/grizzlies-wolves-swapping-draft-picks/)
By Tom Ziller

The Minnesota Timberwolves will send the No. 16 pick in Thursday's 2010 NBA Draft to the Grizzlies in exchange for the No. 25 and No. 28 picks, according to ESPN.com's Andy Katz (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2010/news/story?id=5315275).

Memphis already has the No. 12 pick in the draft, and now adds another decent pick. There are about a dozen prospects outside the top tier considered to be on similar levels, and the Grizzlies are now in a position to pick up a pair of them.

The Wolves will pick No. 4, and now have three picks in the 20s. The Wolves had acquired Utah's No. 23 pick from Philadelphia in a Rodney Carney trade last year. Minnesota also has the rights to picks No. 45 and No. 56. That makes a total of six picks on Thursday night.

It remains to be seen whether the Wolves will trade out of the No. 4 slot. They had been widely rumored to be set on drafting Syracuse wing Wesley Johnson. But he may no longer be available, as two reports surfaced Tuesday saying the Nets will pick Johnson third overall, leaving Derrick Favors and DeMarcus Cousins as the next two prospects on the board. Cousins has refused to visit the Wolves, and Minnesota GM David Kahn told media Favors came into his workout with the Wolves "out of shape."

The Wolves may also be acquiring enough picks to entice the 76ers to move down from No. 2 to No. 4 so that the Wolves can pick up Evan Turner.

Is this trade final?

as deep of a draft as this is, thats a good trade for the T-Wolves.

I don't see the benefit of trading a Parker or Hill and continually opening up needs.

Trading up to 12 makes sense if George is still available. Even in the event that Babbitt were, I wouldn't do it. I don't think he has enough upside to warrant giving up what it would take (probably a future 1st in addition to 20) to move up 8 spots. I'd rather take Williams at 20 and not have to give up another asset(s).

If we got a lottery pick, why the fuck would we use it to draft a Big Man? Am I the only one that sees this. We have Splitter coming over to start, and Blair is probably getting more minutes off the Bench, so why the fuck would we draft another Big Man?

Not to mention Iah Mahinmi, who we might re-sign. All this Favors-Cousins-Aldrich talk doesn't make sense.

That no. 10 pick is really expensive if it's somewhere between Tony Parker and Johnny Flynn. It's worth more than Flynn but certainly not as much as Parker.

Edit: Read this backwards. I wonder how good Minnesota thinks Flynn is.

Interesting. I hope this is not true but if it is we might as well get something back for him. I would hate to lose him though :(.

A couple of years ago, the NJ Nets fleeced the Mavs in the Jason Kidd trade. The Nets obtained several players AND two 1st round picks in non-consecutive years. Obviously, J-KIdd is a highly-decorated, HOF-bound PG. However, TP is a 3-time NBA champion, former NBA Finals MVP and is likely bound for the HOF himself. He's also still in his prime.

While Parker is a different PG than Kidd, he has undoubtedly been a very a great player for the Spurs and a very integral part of the Spurs championship run.

My point is TP has a ton of value. He's in mid-career, has championship experience and is still in his prime. If the Nets got that much for Kidd, the Spurs should at least be able to at least get the Nets top pick this year, a really good current player from their roster, and possibly another pick in next year or a later year. All the while, retaining their own #20 pick. It just makes sense.

If those alleged comments are true from Parker, it makes me believe that something IS going to transpire on that front. I really don't want to see either Hill or Parker go. However if I had to choose between them, it'd be Hill. The reason being is because Parker's contributions and importance to this team are far too monumental to replace. However, the money situation, and impending free agency, surrounding Parker would dictate that HE would be the likely trade chip.

Again, if these comments are true, it's becoming obvious that one of them needs to be moved. In Parker's defense, I can see his point. As such an accomplished player, he shouldn't have to defer his starting role to anyone.

It's time to pass the torch to Hill. He will have ups and downs like TP did in the beginning, but the time has come. Although injured last year a bit, TP's game style is easier for teams to defend nowadays. Players are faster and more athletic. I have finally convince myself Spurs need to part with him.

You misunderstood. My point doesn't have crap to do with fanning flames of a hypothetical Manu vs Tony argument. The point is Tony is and has been a key contributor to Spurs championship teams.

He obviously considers himself a starting PG in this league - and I can't say I blame him. Therefore, I understand his statement - if, in fact, he actually made that statement. It has nothing, whatsoever, to do with Manu

i don't want either of them to leave..

and parker still deserves the starting nod.. hill is a great secondary option.. plus.. he's not a PG anyways.. he can play the SG and even the SF atimes..

im totally not even convinced..

despite my claims of welcoming trade options.. it'd be silly for spurs to pursue trading parker.. unless we're getting an allstar in return.. and i don't mean just any allstar.. people should be asking us for parker.. not us asking them... u feel me?

Not ssaying you were, just that CoM will point to this as an example of Manu>Tony since Manu "doesn't mind coming off the bench and will do whatever it takes to help the team win." I just hate the argument even though I'm more of a fan of Manu's game. I know what Tony means to this team because I'm not stupid.

You really fucking expect Hill to be a full 30minute starter at SG? He will be ABUSED night in and night out by bigger guards, he's simply not long and strong enough.. Sorry to break it to you, but he needs to move permanently to the PG spot whether here in SA or somewhere.. The sooner the better for Hill's future in the NBA..

Look, nothing is gunna happen, I wish the spurs would make a deal (Parker in a GOOD DEAL!) but the Spurs are smart their not gunna trade unless its unpassable, which seems to only happen to LA and Boston. I don't see nobody throwing around good talent for trade except for Bosh and Paul and were good on PG, and getting Bosh would mean a third team would have to join in and not mind getting the bad end. To many things need to happen for a good parker trade to happen and I don't want Parker leaving for sum bull.

Tony is not still in his prime. He's only going to get worse. He hasn't shown the ability to develop a decent three point shot or become an even decent distibutor. He still has the ability to get into the lane but he has lost some speed from a few years ago. Within the next three years, he is going to be a pretty easy cover.

Well he was a starter at PG that series.. There's no way Hill is successful in this league as a SG.. He simply cannot succeed as a SG in a PG's body.. He's not tall enough, strong enough or THAT athletic to guard bigger 6ft6 and up SG's..

You think what you want, but if his career is as a SG, than Hill will be at most an OK role player.. He can become a great player if he adapts to the PG position (yes he needs to adapt and play there constantly) and develops himself in that position..

100% with you

Hills potential > than Tony's

Tony's speed is the only things keeping him a solid player, but he's an old young guy and Hill needs to be a PG not a SG. So if Tony doesn't wanna be a bench guy(regardless of that to me) then he needs to be traded for talent to fill other positions.

Not sure how much chance there was of that happening, because the Spurs have very little use for Brandon Rush.

I suppose so. I saw some synergy stats on him once and was surprised at how well he defended, and his 3pt % were off the charts (41%).

I think as a 3 stopper, with his length (6'6.5, 6'11 wingspan, 8'8.5 standing reach), I could see why the spurs would draft him. I don't see a 3 stopper on our team. =/

I can understand drafting him when he was available, but I don't see them giving up George Hill for him now.
