Horrible half.
We have a big problem in the midfield.
We need Veron out there to keep possesion of the ball.
Germany deserves to be up by 2 goals.

I hope we can turn it around.

Pretty good game by Germany so far. I don't understand why the Argentinians move so poorly, to be honest. Still, they got better at the end of the half. And I think Germany will concede a goal sooner or later. Of course, the Argentinian defense looked shaky as well.

After the first 15 minutes I thought we were gonna lose by 10, luckily the team improved after that, too bad we couldn't weather the storm early in the game. Argentina is playing way too long (that means with a lot of distance between the defenders and attackers), that allows Germany to play way to comfortable on the middle, we need to fix that. And get Veron and Pastore in there for Di Maria and Maxi Rodriguez right now. Messi the only one showing something good for us so far.

I agree, Veron and Pastore should be a nice change of pace.

Messi can do everything but he can't score to save his life in this WC.

I blame the ball for that, he said that he had to adjust his shooting style 'cause this ball won't spin like the other ones, look how in Barcelona he always shoots with the inside part of the foot priorizing placement over power, and now he hits it with the upper part of the foot trying to give the shot more power.

Germany >>> Argentina so far. The only reason we aren't 3-0 right now is because they can't finish for shit, but their attacks have been clear, organized and they have picked our defense appart. We on the other hand are hoping either DiMaria, Tevez or Messi manage to beat Germany on their own practically. Granted their defense isn't that pretty either, but we're expending enormous ammounts of energy trying to get a shot in while they get to ours in 4 or 5 passes. Its ridiculous.

They're defending with 9 guys. I don't care what you do, it's going to be hard to break them down.
We need more pressure and like DAF said, a couple of guys like Veron and Pastore to make the through pass.

I think Brazil lost just as bad. They choked a game away by completely losing composure.

Argentina didn't choke, they just weren't prepared to play a game against a German side that was that locked in. Germany showed against Serbia that they can run cold, buy today they were hot as can be. The early goal put Arg in a hole and they didn't capitalize on the chances to equalize and got hit with the 68th or whatever min counter. The last two goals were because Arg was demoralized from the 2nd one and lost all focus. I'm disappointed Messi couldn't find a groove in the WC, he's one of my favorite players in the world if not the favorite and I wanted him to have a monster tourney.

If we get past Paraguay today we're gonna need to be really zoned in for that semi. That team is very talented and can light it up, we'll need another stifling performance like the Euro 2008 final when we beat them. Gonna be interesting.

Not on paper they don't. They are the better team tough. TEAM being the key word. So tell me exactly who is in charge of building team strategy? Its not fucking Messi. Its the coach.

Say what you will, but I'd take 2006 team over this team any day of the week and twice on sunday. Pekerman is miles better than Maradona.

So let me get this straight, you think if Pekerman was coaching this team... Argentina would've won?

Ok keep your excuse

Its not an excuse. There is no excuse. I may not like it, but Maradona is our coach. Part of our team. We lost because we were outclassed as a team today.

No, I do think we'd have had a better chance though. This German team is outstanding. They had weaknesses that could have been exploited, obviously we completely failed to do that. I think an Argie team with some semblance of organization would have posed a bigger problem.

Either way, I'm not taking anything away from this German team. They play incredible football.

congrats to germany. they were able to score first (even though i think they were very lucky, muller barely touched it and even though it went straight to the goalie he didnt react), and they were patient in defense and effective on the counter. the 4-0 score doesnt reflect the reality of the match because argentina had a long stretch of possession where they should have been able to tie it up. we just had horrible shooting, the only shot with any power to it went off mertesackers face.

that said, a big fuck you to the ref. there were several challenges from behind and two kicks to the knee (with the ball on the ground) that should have been yellows. and they were all during that stretch that argentina was attacking and dominating the play. same with holland yesterday. our forwards were forced to play the ball quick because they werent getting any whistles, and the germans were content to break up attacks with fouls knowing they wouldnt get more than a caution.

in the end our inability to shoot better did us in. as for maradona, I think he should have made his subs earlier, other than that I dont have a problem with how he managed the game. we lost because we gave away an easy goal 3 minutes in and lacked the teeth to tie it up. its mostly the players fault, but its hard to get too upset when you consider most of them are under 25.

what kind of organization are you looking for manumaniac? are you saying you wanted the team to play 4-4-2 and wait for a mistake? that you want to play with a playmaker dominating the ball (your friend riquelme perhaps)? the first goal wasnt for lack of organization. and the inability to score... do you really think playing a post offense would have been more effective?

so when khedira kicks a player's knee its not a yellow? when klose tramples mascherano from behind its not a yellow? when pigbreeder kicks di maria's ankle from behind its not a yellow? when podolski grabs tevez by the shoulders and throws him down its not a yellow?

Dude, it wasnt the ref.

The ref could have give plenty of yellows to argentina for some fouls, and yes also 1-2 more to mascherano.

I say sticking with the diamond was a fault, germany was often dominating the midfield and argentina attacked way too late and gave them way too much space.

I already gave the germans their props, and chastised our team for their mistakes. and calling those yellows doesnt guarantee anything. but you never know. its like when duncan gets called for his 4th/5th foul- he cant defend with the same intensity. and like i said, those fouls didnt happen at the end of the game, they happened in the first half and beginning of the 2nd. it could very well have changed the game, and even if it didnt the ref should have called it. the rulebooks dont have a "wouldnt affect the result of the game" clause.

I dont know how much Maradona runs the tactical stuff or someone else (a real coach) helping him a lot in the background and Maradona being more the motivator (like Klinsmann/Löw in 2006).

I think sticking to the diamond was a fault by argentina. Specially with knowing their problems in the defense (slow etc) and watching the germany-England game and England getting exposed.

His tactics was basically "lets hope germany doesnt score first"....

Germany had WAY too much space in the midfield and argentina attacked too late.

Fucking Higuain demanding the yellow for Müller. Asshole! Yellow card for Müller was correct call, but I hate players demanding cards for opponents.
Maradona just isn't a coach. No adjustments. Should have put Messi on the rights side against Boateng.
Argentina only had one dangerous attempt and that was di Maria's shot.

Now bring on Spain. This will be a tough game, especially without Müller.

Amazing all this Maradona love after he got absolutly outcoached and his team trashed with two players left home that could be a major difference maker in this game (Zanetti, Cambiasso).

I think Maradona could shoot the pope ("Hey, he was sitting in my spot...didnt know its illegal to do it, i apologize") and everyone would just laugh "aah, that was a typical Maradona"

:lol
