Yeah I'd say that's definitely deserving as a red card as well. One thing I can't stand about football is that there's no other sport in a where a referee can directly intervene and ruin a game.

:lol It’s fucking hilarious, Barca haters bleeding from behind as usual… It’s so funny.

Lets see, so the refs helped Barcelona?

First game, Messi LEGAL goal called offside, 1 CLEAR penalty not called to Pedro, and RED CARD, 2 CLEAR penalty not called on a CLEAR hand ball.
Second game, CLEAR penalty not called to Messi, yellow card shown to VP when it should have been a CLEAR RED card for punching Alves face. RED CARD not shown on the penalty to Pedro.

Also, even thou I agree the ref exaggerated on that red card to VP… it is absolutely LEGAL.

Arsenal fans should call out their coach and players instead of using bullshit excuses. The supposed “England Barca” had cero opportunities to score…….. yes, CERO, nada, they didn’t even scored their lone goal…. But it’s the ref’s fault. :lmao

lol Barca homer maggots coming from the woodwork.

I've criticized Arsenal plenty in this thread and did not expect them to win at Nou Camp, that was evident. They didn't play a game to win anyways, that's basically why I had no comment after the game on their performance. Pretty sure you find me posting in this thread about the offside call during the live game, so stop painfully trying to justify everything Barca - there's really no need to.

This loss is mostly on Wenger, but no way should they replace him. One loss against a more talented team does not negate 10 years of good work. You can't win them all (unless you're Barca :lol).

MaNuMaNiAc
03-09-2011, 11:51 AM
To be fair, I don't think the red card was going to affect the match much as long as Arsenal kept trying. Not with the scheme Wenger was using.

Had Arsenal not completely fucking quit, Barca would have had a hard time scoring the 2 goals necesary to go through directly IMO. 1 goal maybe, 2 would have been difficult.

The fact of the matter is, Arsenal scored 0 goals in this match, and when they should have been playing their hearts out to win a realistically winnable match, they threw the football equivalent of a tantrum. Had Arsenal kept playing, they would be the toast of the town right now, whether they won or lost, and maybe, just maybe it would have given a possible complaint about that red card more validity.

Ref fuck ups happen! You're supposed to play through them for fuck sake. I was thoroughly dissapointed by this game and I'm a Barca fan.

After watching the 2nd half replay I couldn't believe Arsenal just turtle shelled like that. Barca was without their two best defenders and Arsenal was still scared to attack. I hate when anyone in any competition plays not to lose like that, it's such a fag thing to do.

Any Arsenal fan that blames the loss in its entirety to the red card is whiny little bitch that doesn't want to face the fact his/her team gave up mid second half.

Barca
67% Possession
19 Shots at goal
5 Corners
6 Fouls

Arsenal
33% Possession
0 Shots at Goal
2 Corners
16 Fouls

and Arsenal lost because Van Persie who did shit all game got ejected? Get the fuck out with that shit!

Just a jab to their gut as they're big rivals in North London and they have the whole "St Totteringham's Day" thing. I guess now Tottenham can have the "St. Arse's Day" as the day when Arsenal can no longer go farther than them in CL.

Fucking terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible. Holy shit. Milan have absolutely no identity right now. If Gattuso hadn't been red carded, he would have played instead of Seedorf, which would have been equally as awful.

Enough of Ambrosini, Gattuso, Seedorf, and freaking Jankulovski. Bring in some fresh legs (Boateng type players), and move the freaking ball.

Cassano and Van Bommel were great signings, but they were cup tied for God sakes.

I still can't believe this team is leading Serie A.

Inter went up early, Eto'o with a goal in the 3rd minute. Makes the aggregate match up immediately tied for the rest of game and had to leave for class.

Then Bayern bangs in 2 goals, putting them up 2-1 in the game and having an overwhelming 2 goal advantage at home. But holy shit, 2 more goals from Intern, including an 88th minute goal from Pandev.

3-3 aggregate, Inter moves on. That is fucking amazing. Those home fans must have felt like complete shit.

Torres is just caught up in a bad situation. In my opinion, it'll be very hard for him to retire with a strong legacy as a player...relative to his previous hype + salary. His old Liverpool side was nothing impressive, he got transfered at a retardedly high price to join one of the top premier league teams that's already stacked with attacking players. That leaves him in a weird spot, and it's mostly Chelsea's own dumb ass fault. That move just doesn't cease to amaze me. In order to justify the transfer, the club needs him to play in order to produce. The problem is they already have players that are better at it, who were already in the system. And if the club doesn't get caught up in retrospect (bashing their heads repeatedly for that move), they could just rarely use him, which also leaves both parties (Chelsea + Torres) looking like major fools.

So fucking stupid.

It's like the ManU squad of a couple years ago, which featured Rooney, Ronaldo, and Tevez at their disposal at forward positions, buying Ibrahimovic for a transfer fee of $75 million. Quite the exaggeration, but holy shit, why are so many football clubs so stupid?

Yeah..I didn't see the game, but I read commentary and god damn, what a fucking moron. Apparently his initial yellow early in the game was rather violent and some refs might have given him a red for it, is this true? I could easily see it being so, but rather they gave him a yellow because it was very early and in the champs league and didn't want to ruin the series that quickly, especially given the opponent is Real Madrid.

In any case, that probably should have been a sign for that jackass to watch himself for the rest of the match..but the douche obviously didn't process the warning. Look at the team Barca beat 5-1; yes it's the CL, but that club (forgot its name sorry) represents a weak league; so just because it's the CL doesnt mean all the clubs involved in the tournament are strong.

As for RMA, they scored most of their goals at 11 vs 10

Not sure if I completely agree with this reasoning :lol

Barca and Real are head and shoulders above other teams in La Liga. I think you're trying to say that this isn't based on how weak La Liga is, but rather how Barca and Real are performing against other Euro squads. Which I find strange especially for Real since they haven't seen the QFs in years. And now they're facing Tottenham (and Barca is facing Shanktar), so I wouldn't make anything out of this yet.

Barca has been one of the best squads of the past 6-7 seasons, I think most people know this though. But I don't think these results tell us anything about the status of La Liga, whether one thinks it's weak or not.

I tend to agree, especially considering how sketchy most footballing institutions' decision making processes are :lol. The decision is rather subjective in nature, there's no fool proof way to determine that a player was strictly carding up on purpose as the possibility that any given player completely brain farts during a very fast sequence of events is always there, and that's assuming you see something wrong with using the tactic.

I thought the ref did a good job of letting tick tack foul go on both teams. At half, only Alves and Arbeloa were booked.

You sound like Van Basten though...Mourinho plays to win and playing with physicality is exactly the way you need to play to disrupt Barca. Nobody in the world is beating Barca at the passing game.

Pepe is generally a cocksucker, but has nothing to do with what I'm saying. A straight red for what he did seemed harsh and is compounded by considering Alves acting always being a theatrical faggot and Barca swarming the refs like locus.

Both sides were equally responsible for creating that heated atmosphere with all that pathetic flopping, calling for cards at every opportunity etc. So it was pretty clear that the first hard challenge would result in a red card. Hence Real shouldn't complain too much (as I'm certain they will), because they are to blame for setting up this whole situation as well as Barca is.

Apart from that, Real didn't do enough attacking-wise. Yes, I get it that they wanted Barca to commit to playing forward and thereby getting opportunities for their great counter attacking game, but it didn't work, and Real failed to adjust to that.

Well, at least the brillant second goal by Messi provided a football-related highlight after all that flopping and complaining.

Saw this on another site and I agree. Barca's diving was out of control and more tha usual but the soccer equivalent of "4 corners" tactics played by Mourinho is complete unsportsmanlike bullshit too.

"
I was taking a slight jab at Madrid with that comment, but if you think about it not really far from the truth. In the liga game they went to 10 men and it didn't effect them as they already had everyone behind midfield all the time anyway. What hurt them here was losing Pepe in the midfield. He's the difference maker for that team.

I'm surprised not one of you has given Madrid shit for not even playing the game. Sitting back like that isn't futbol and should be banned in a similar way basketball instituted the shot clock to keep teams from just sitting on the ball for the whole game. That's a pussy way to play and people should be bashing the shit out of Mourinho for doing it. I've watched every Barca game this season except 2 and this was more diving and blatant diving than I've seen from them. I wonder if it isn't being done to this extreme as a retaliation against the pussy bitch tactics of Mourinho."

I'm not even necessarily against people playing defensive tactics against Barca and waiting for the counter-attack. Barca's gameplan is to completely control ball possession and they do so almost annoyingly like I've said before. You can't then complain when you're intent on having the ball and your opponent won't allow you to penetrate their defense.

By beef with RMD was that it wasn't working and should've switched it up. They weren't making any opportunities period. Of course Mourinho claims they were about to switch it up before the red card :lol

Mourinho: Barca are in final

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has conceded that his side have no chance of reaching the Champions League final after a 2-0 first-leg defeat to rivals Barcelona at the Bernabeu.
Jose Mourinho tries to squeeze into the stand after being sent off. (LluisGene/GettyImages)

• Champions League Gallery Photo Gallery

Mourinho was sent to the stands in a tempestous game that saw Barcelona substitute goalkeeper Pinto sent off at half-time, before Madrid midfielder Pepe was dismissed for a tackle on Javier Mascherano. Lionel Messi exploited the space to claim a late brace and now Mourinho feels his side are out of the tie.

"The return game is mission impossible,'' he told the press after the game. ''Barcelona has qualified for the final. Sometimes I feel disgusted about this football world of ours. Yes, we have already been knocked out.

''We had the intention to keep the game at 0-0, then bring on a striker, then a third phase with a No. 10 behind three forwards. But the ref didnt allow it.''

Mourinho continued his post-match rant by targeting Barcelona's record in the competition, most notably their win over Chelsea in the semi-final in 2009.

''I would be ashamed if I was Barca how they won Champions League in 2009,'' he said. ''It was the scandal of Stamford Bridge. This is the scandal of the Bernabeu.

"I don't know if it's because of Villar, the UNICEF publicity or what, but I don't understand why this keeps happening. No one has any chance against Barca. Where does all this power come from? To win like this is very nasty.

"What did I say to the referee? Nothing, I just laughed. If I say what I feel now, my career ends. I just wonder why."

Cristiano Ronaldo, who was largely anonymous as an attacking presence during the game and showed visable frustration with the way Madrid were playing said: "Do I like to play in a defensive team like Madrid? No, but I have to adapt to what the coach wants.

"Playing against 10 men isn't easy. 0-0 would have been a good result. 2-0 is very difficult. Messi played very well, but it's easier against ten."

What a bitch. He comes up with a fluke win using cheap tactics and he gets pissed when someone else uses cheap tactics to bust his ass.

I have no problem with defensive futbol, I have a problem with keeping 11 behind midfield and just trying to dump the ball and chase. If the offense can't put a man behind the defense before the pass the defense shouldn't be allowed to have 11 packing it's end.

I don't particularly like Mourinho's approach, but nobody can argue that it wasn't effective up to the point Pepe got himself thrown off. Physical, defensive football and relying on the counter seems to be the only way Barca's midfield can be neutralized. Can't blame Mourinho for realizing this. Yeah, its ugly as all hell, but it seems to work.

Now, you can't have it both ways. If you play physical football like Real did today, letting someone like Pepe run around dishing it out to his hearts content you can't act all fucking surprised when he gets thrown out for it.

Yeah the flopping was disgusting to the point of being shameful, but both teams did it, so no one gets a pass on that.

The fact of the matter is Real went in looking for a tie or a miracle goal on the counter and they couldn't find it. Their tactic backfired today and they are all butt hurt about it.

Mou really needs to learn to keep his mouth shut though. I swear, most annoying piece of shit on the planet.

I can't bealive Mourinho is crying about the refs when he should have ended the game with 7 men:

-Red card to Pepe was fair, I sill can't bealive people are bitching about it. If Alves wouldn't have had the leg in the air, Pepe might have broken it.

-Adebayor punching Busquets in the face.

-Marcelo stepping over Pedro.

-And Ramos should have been booked in the first half for stopping a counter with a hand ball and then the yellow he got for the foul on Messi.

Barca won because they were/are better, not because of the refs.

now you're pushing it. Pepe's was a red and Adebayor's could well have been, but the others would have been just as bullshit as Real claiming they deserved none.

Didn't you see Marcelo stepping over Pedro? Agression without the ball = Automatic red card.

And stopping a counter with a hand ball is an automatic yellow, then with the foul he comitted over Messi (for which he got a yellow) he should hve been sent off, pretty simple.

If Manchester vs. Barcalona happens, it's going to be an epic match. I think I said a couple of weeks ago that Manchester is the only team I can see knocking off Barca in CL. Of course, Man Utd can eat a dick, but they've had an amazing season.

oh please, you can't possibly expect every little bit of aggression off the ball be a red card. That's borderline moronic. The ref isn't going to give an automatic red card for stepping on someone in a game like this.

and if we're on the topic of what should have been, Barca deserved quite a lot of yellows for blatant unsportsmanlike acting. Alves and Pedro looked like Venezuelan soap opera stars out there.

You can harp on the blatant foul by Pepe and Adebayor, anything else if just crap.

If you try to hit somebody off the ball, you have to get a red card even if you don't hit him. It's the intention what counts.

But on this case it wasn't only the intention, Marcelo stepped over Pedro and got him injured, Pedro had to be substituted, what "little agression" are you talking about?

yeah well, you'll have to excuse my skepticism on that foul, I just spent a full 90 minutes watching Pedro dive like he was just shot. I saw the step and it wasn't that hard at all.

Ok, I calmed down. I know there's nothing against playing like that in the rules, but there was nothing against holding onto the ball for 4 quarters and not taking a shot either in basketball until some asshole like Mourinho kept doing it to stay close against superior teams and the shot clock was invented. I just think futbol would be a better sport if they found a way to neutralize that sort of thing, but right now it's just more cheap in my mind than anything.

That was definitely a red, you can't go spikes up right into someone's leg like that.
