That's Real Madrid's response.
They're obviously bias, but unless another angle disputes their claim, they seemed to be right.

Still a pretty dangerous tackle, and would've gone with a yellow. However if Alves did simulate his injury (which seems likely considering how quickly he came back) then he should be suspended for deceiving the referee.
Busquets was hilarious as well.

There was definitely diving going on, but if you're stupid enough to attack spikes up you're taking a chance on getting red carded. From the replays it looked like he was definitely trying to spike the leg whether he succeeded or not, and in that case it's a judgement call for the ref. I could see a yellow and I could also see a red and it was up to the ref to decide which one. Have to take responsibility for your tackles when it's pretty obvious you were trying to intentionally go spikes into the leg.
Also, Madrid media is already photoshopping pictures so anything they produce has to be considered tainted and bullshit.

It's impossible to make the turn Alves made in the air if you don't get hit, Madrid press is famous for photoshopping pics and altering images so I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same here, besides there're times where the tv image doesn't show what it really happens. Look at this video at around the 8:50 minute mark:
EZNyeCKRcG4&feature=related
The video doesn't show that the Argie player touched the Portuguese but after the match Rojo (the Argie defender) said that he did touch him.
Either way, let's say that Pepe didn't touch Alves, the rule says "to hit or try to hit", it's the intention that matters, so Pepe should have been sent off either way.

Come on man, some of you guys are being such homers, DAF you are topping the list in this thread... please. It very well was possible for Alves to turn like that. Why? Because his other foot was still on the ground at the point of "contact". Very easy to act that out, just fling your right leg out/back and dive with a turn.
His left foot was still on the ground. He can go any direction at that point.

Yeah, even if he did make contact, there's no way it could've been forceful enough to spin him around, especially since he was already pulling his leg back before Pepe's cleats even arrived.

I'm not beign a homer. That's as easy as red cards get, even if Alves wasn't hit.
And if Alves can turn like that without getting hit I'm impressed with his athletic ability, I've played semi-professional football and I can't do that nor bealive how anyone could.

I don't remember those cases, in a game when a guy flops he usually gets a yellow (although "some times" should be a more accurate adverb of frecuency 'cause players rarely get booked for that) so I don't see how they could be penalized in another way after the games. Either way I don't think there's enough evidence to say that was a flop and give Alves that kind of penalty.

Those cases of suspensions are usually where you deceive a referee to get a penalty or a someone sent off.
But yes, there has to be clear evidence that it was deception, which would be hard to prove.

This is kind of why I wanted Xavi to win World Player of the Year last year. I said back then Messi's hasn't even shown his best work, so I wonder if they're prepared to give him the award for the next 5 years. Never seen another player like him in my lifetime.

What's "red herring" about my argument? I said that video footge can some times play visual tricks like I showed with that Argentina-Portugal play, IMO that video doesn't prove conclusively that Alves wasn't touch. But as I said, let's assume that in fact he wasn't touched, Pepe still deserved the red card for that reckless dangerous tackle.
People are missing the point that a plyer doesn't need to hit the guy to get sent off.
Were some Barca players diving like little bitches at every minimal touch? Yes (so were some Madrid players).
Was Pepe sent off unfairly? No.
P/S: The pics weren't to show that Alves was hit, they were to prove that Pepe didn't try to go for the ball.

I've already agreed earlier that a dangerous tackle without contact can be disciplined. We'll have to agree to disagree on the decision about the red card. And again, I believe if Alves wasn't touched, he should be disciplined for simulation.

If, like you said, players have already been suspended for simulation, Alves should be suspended too, the thing is that IMO (and I think you agreed with me on this) that video isn't conclusive to penalize him.

I don't know about that. You can quote angles all you want, that video seems pretty solid evidence Alves wasn't touched. Now, I still think Pepe's red was warranted, if not for the foul, fucking karma, but Alves should be suspended as well.

I know what it is, I've followed the sport all my life. Let's not pretend somehow Barca does it more than everyone else. English teams and players flop as well. Hell, in 2002, England beat Argentina in the World Cup because Beckham and Owen flopped like fish out of water and got themselves a penalty.

Barca is as usual just waiting until they play against 10....
Sometimes Barca gets too complacent with the ball, taking unnecessary risks.
Specially when they are close to Valdez.
If, by chance, a RMA player can take advantage of one of those lazy passes, they could score.
Only then this game will get interesting.

All in all, these two games must have been pretty demoralizing for Real. In the first leg, they are desperately trying not to concede while waiting for possible counter attacks. Not the worst tactic against Barca, but it didn't work.
In the second leg, Real are trying to play forward, but they don't get off one single shot on goal for over an hour.
Well, at least both sides were focusing on playing the game more than on rolling around on the pitch and calling for cards tonight.

Oh well, for all intents and purposes the 18 days of clasicos ended up Barca 2 Real 1 and 1 tie, although the tie was basically a Barca win since it made la liga theirs to easily take.

Barca goes through but the problem still remains. UEFA needs to start implementing suspensions and fines for playacting. Even though the diving wasn't as prevalent in this match, some of them were definitely as bad. Pedro, Dany Alves, Mascherano... they all had instances where they literally threw themselves to the floor after being fucking grazed. I love Masche, but that "OMG I'M FUCKING SHOT!!!" routine he did in the second half was ridiculous and embarassing. I wouldn't have a problem with a 2 game suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct if UEFA ever had the balls to implement such a thing.
and DA86 if we're talking red cards for intentions then Pedro definitely deserved one for his attempt at Diarra I think it was. Fucker missed, but it was a dirty tackle.

Jose Mourinho has been given a five-match European ban for his conduct after Real Madrid's Champions League semi-final first-leg against Barcelona.
Uefa said it was "inappropriate" for the Madrid coach to accuse them - and referees - of trying to help Barcelona win, following Real's 2-0 home defeat.
Mourinho served one match of the ban in the second leg, and another of the five games is suspended for three years...

Actually it was for implying that there's some kind of conspiracy from UEFA to help Barca.
Yesterdy I saw a TV program that looked closely at each controversial play from this Barca-Madrid tie and had a lot of referees giving their proffesional opinion and the unanimous consent was that the one that benefited from the ref's mistakes was Madrid:
-All the refs agreed that Pepe was rightly sent off.
-They also all agreed that Higuain's goal was rightly disallowed.
-And finally they also all agreed that Madrid should have seen more red cards between the two games.
So Mourinho whinning is not only annoying, is also unjustified but I think he knows it, he's just trying to find an excuse.

You know what I'll help you
Here's a rundown of pretty much every post I made in that thread.
Mexico is definitely outplaying us
that wasn't a jinx attempt, Mexico is playing better
It really doesn't matter whether we win today or not. We're not beating Germany playing like this. Maradona's "all heart, no strategy" bullshit approach is getting exposed.
Awful, awful football by Argentina
Don't worry, Mexico playing like they are, they are bound to tie
you should be glad though, now you have your excuse served. You know you're looking for one
I've been pretty straight forward about what I think about the reffing this tournament, there is no denial.
Yes, that was offsides. Mexicans taking the opportunity to blame it instead of themselves is pretty fucking pathetic. Not even the English are blaming the loss on the goal.
and by the way, Mexico is STILL outplaying us, and you're still losing. To say it should be 0-0 is fucking laughable. Say it should be 0-1 if anything... which means you'd STILL be losing.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think we're winning because of anything we're doing right to be honest. I think Mexico's defense has made horrible mistakes. So far, Mexico is playing better.
Let me put it this way, if Mexico decides to pack it in because of an uncalled offside, they deserve to lose, period.
So far, it doesn't look like they are packing it in. They are still outplaying us.
the "what if" game you are playing has no logic, so what exactly are you asking me? you're saying Osorios fuck up was because of the first goal, I'm saying you're full of shit. "What ifs" are excuses, period.
Let me be clear about this, I know it was offsides, I'm all for video replay being introduced so things like this don't happen.
I don't. We're not talking about a dissallowed goal or anything Mexico did on merit and didn't get. That goal was offsides on Tevez' touch, but the ball got there because of Mexico's defensive fuck up. Osorio's fuck up was a result of the crap defense you've been playing for sometime now, not an uncalled offside.
so to answer your question, yes, I think it was a punch to their confidence, any goal is but its NOT the reason for the second goal.
Either way, Mexico is playing well again and is still quite in this.
Our D is non existant
Nice goal Mexico! :tu
:lol Germany is going to murder this defense.
Mexico is outrunning every single ball out there
Jesus, the flopping going on is ridiculous
Yellow card that BULLSHIT FLOP!!!!
That shit by Ottamendi was fucking disgraceful
Mexico played better, just couldn't finish. Germany is going to kill us. I mean de.ci.mate us!
I don't think we have a game to step up to. This is us right now. Disorganized, practically defenseless, relying on our excellent offensive players to score more than the other team does. Mexico would have won this had they had finishers IMO. That seems to always be Mexico's problem. Otherwise we got completely outplayed today.
Against teams like Germany, Holland or Brazil we're going to get stepped on.
yeah, and some Argentines like to pretend this team is on par with Germany or Brazil just because it managed to beat Nigeria, South Korea, Greece and barely beat Mexico...
That's fine, play pretend all you want. This team isn't getting past Germany.

Like I said, I don't much care what irritated you being an Argie or not. You talk like you are the meter by which everything must be measured. My comments irritated you, fine. I still stand by them. I never said it wasn't an offside, I said it shouldn't be an excuse to mail it in and call it a tournament. Which they didn't. Mexico outplayed us till the very end. Its the Mexican fans that used the excuse, and THAT irritated me. Otherwise I'm more than willing to give Mexico its props for playing a hell of a game.

I never accused you of being an Argie homer DAF, I accused you of being a Barca homer. Which lets face it, you are. That team can do no wrong in your eyes. If Barca loses its only because they weren't playing well, not because they were outplayed, if a Barca player commits a foul its rarely intentional and never deserving of a red but if another player commits a foul on a Barca player you scream bloody murder and think everybody should get a red. Like I said, its nothing personal, I like you man. Its just that's how you come off. At least to me. In other words my opinion.
About Barca and Messi I always say that they are the best team and the best player in the world respectively but I don't think that's beign a homer, that's just reality imho.

what came after was me being annoyed that every Mexican in that thread wanted to pin the loss on a goal from a missed offside. A play that was the result of a monumental defensive breakdown by the Mexico defense (and no I'm not talking about the second goal).
We all agree the ref fucked up, we all agree it cost Mexico. Its the "we would have won had it not been for that" bullshit that bothers me. Mexico had plenty of chances to score, plenty, and missed a ton. You lost because you couldn't close out on the chances you created, which again were a ton. That's another thing we all agree on, Mexico played better than Argentina. I said it all through out that damn game. In other words, instead of blaming your inability to finish, you chose to bitch and moan about a missed offside. Again, give me a break.
I'm the careful poster? :lol
GTFO! so what you're saying is I carefully gave props to the Mexican team all through that game (which by the way was right from the get go) so that in the future I'd be able to throw it in the face of people like you when they call me a homer for not agreeing with them? that's what you're saying? The epicness in this thread is going to be better than the game. This is pretty much like the Dallas Lakers series. No matter who wins we're going to be fucked by one set of obnoxious fans.
Fuck.
Some of the blatant homerism is truly shocking, on the level of cobbler/21 Blessings.

Real talk right now. I don't think that's true, there aren't many Manchester fans in here and I don't see the Mexicans rooting for Chicharito as big homers.
Then you have Barca fans, you can't blame them/us for saying that Barcelona is the best team in the world. Some Barca fans even were saying that Pepe didn't deserve to get sent off, I don't know how's that beign a homer.
Then you have the Barca supporters that actually know the rules and say that Pepe was rightly sent off, but that's not beign a homer either.

I guess, but I think this final determines who gets the crown of best team in the world. United and Barca are very evenly matched, i'm saying United pull it out but it could really go either way.

I think ManU has a much bigger chance than most people think but IMO it wouldn't be fair to determine the best team in the world by just one game, if it was a series like in the NBA then I could agree that the winner should be considered the best team in the world, but for one game? No, specially in football where many times the team that plays better in a particular match doesn't end up wining it.

I don't do best teams in the word, it's ain't my religion. [/Culburn]
I'm sure either team could give a shit whether they're consider the 'best in the world.' There's titles and that's all. The winner on May 28th is the champion of Europe and that's all there is to it - there's no solace in empty accolades like 'best team' and whatnot.

Fuck
I have no idea what to think of this game in terms of who to pull for. I hate MU and dislike Barca... I'll probably end up going with Barca because i'm such a big Messi fan.
I do, however, think MU will win. I believe they'll be a bit more comfortable and willing to attack early. Barca, IMO(I haven't watched but maybe 7 or 8 games of theirs), likes to plod about and play around in the midfield far too much while waiting on LM to do something magnificent.

Nice pregame analysis:
How Manchester United can beat Barcelona (http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thefootballtacticsblog/2011/05/how_manchester_united_can_beat.html)
The value of possession to the Spanish side, though, is that they use it almost as thinking time. The first instinct of Busquets, Xavi and Iniesta is to pass, get it back and use that time to see what is developing in front of them.

Goddamn that would be awful, but I don't expect it simply because these clubs seem to have mutual respect for each other, contrary to Madrid-Barca. But then again, since it's the UEFA final and the biggest game all year, one they want to win badly, I could imagine it happening.
