Welker was awfully good that year, was he not? His history at that point has nothing to do with what he produced that year.
He sucked before Brady, as in Brady made him relevant. He was a scrub prior to 2007.
Instead, the Pats had a defense that was able to help them have better field position. I think that takes a lot of pressure off the offense as well.
Yeah the 2007 Patriot defense was something special.
So in other words, you think Bill sucks as a coach? Because that is basically what you are saying here, that Brady entirely made Belichick.
I'm saying that for all the talk of Belichick's great system, it's odd that Brady is the only one who's been successful with it.
I'm not tearing Brady down at all. I'm saying that he benefitted from a good system and good playcalling
So did Manning. Dungy and Tom Moore aren't exactly bums.
Imuch like Manning benefitted from good weapons. Good coaching can make mediocre weapons appear solid, and vice versa, good weapons, can make mediocre coaching appear solid. Both guys had their share of benefits on the offensive end.
Yeah Bill Belichick's awesome coaching made the Cleveland Brown's a great team in the early 1990's.
IIf you actually read what I say, I have said for a while now, that Brady is the second best QB of all time, only behind Peyton.
I'm surprised given how Bill Belichick's system could make a retarded monkey look like Joe Montana.

Given how much of a joke New England's 2008 schedule was anything worse than 11-5 woulda been pathetic.
The way you guys compliment how well your least favorite team is run just to tear Brady down is almost as sad as that one time gray named Spurfan talked about how high Dallas's payroll was and that Dirk is terrible for not being able to win a championship with such a high payroll.

I agree, that the system and his surroundings made him a lot better than he really is. Just the way Harrison and Wayne and Garcon and Stokely look beastly with Peyton Manning throwing to them.

Better than the Colts defenses with the exception of the 2006 playoffs.

Oh OK now it's "the system". I wish I played for the 1992 Browns, I could be a 1,000 yard receiver.
Better than the Colts defenses with the exception of the 2006 playoffs.
Not really. That defense had some terrible players playing major roles.
Prove that Belichick used the same system with teams prior to the Pats.
Idk why Belichick would use any system other than the system you've been raving about for a page. How good would the Browns have been if Belichick used this "system".
They aren't exactly Belichick either.
Compare Dungy's career without Manning and Belichick's career without Brady.
Answer this. Is his system good? Or is it entirely Brady?
His system is good, but it's not on some elite lone tier by itself that makes a QB look massively better than he is.

The weapons around Manning helped Manning put up gaudy MVP stats. Belichick's system helped Brady succeed but it did nothing to help Brady win MVPs because it's not a system that lends itself to a QB putting up great numbers at all. It's a system that compliments a great defense and great kicker perfectly whereas it stays on the field, puts enough points on the boards, and limits turnovers. Once Brady was allowed to air it out because the defense sucked, he started putting up great numbers.

awesome, you actually debated by use of reasoning and logic.
I agree with this all as well, although even when Brady got his chance to air it out, only once has he really put up Manning-esqe numbers, and still wasn't able to do it as efficiently as Manning did the year he went ballistic.
And basically this entire discussion we have had, is why it boils down to me choosing Manning over Brady, basically over intangibles, such as Manning being superior physically, being a more precise passer, and seeming to have a higher football IQ as evidenced by his ability to run the offense and call plays now.

Post-2007 Brady is a worse QB than Manning, I'm not debating that.
He had a higher completion % than Manning's best year, less interceptions, and his team averaged more PPG.

marginally better in those areas, yet was still less efficient overall, as evidenced by having considerably more pass attempts, and a lower QB rating. not to mention having arguably the deadliest reciever in NFL history, in Randy Moss.
to me, these stats comparing their best seasons, mainly show that Manning is a riskier passer, which fits into my point that he is superior at completing tough passes. When things seem pretty decently covered, Manning tends to try to fit passes into tight windows downfield, while Brady tends to check down if nothing is wide open.

its not that risky of a pass if Wayne ran his route correctly. a curl route is far different than fitting a pass to a guy on a seam route 20 yards downfield, splitting 2 or 3 defenders. receivers are always taught to come to the ball, and shield defenders off on curl routes. thats football basics at its finest. wayne did neither of those things.

THANK YOU.
I knew he was an overrated player since I saw his true form in Miami. So fucking overrated.
Despite being undrafted, Welker has had a successful career to date. Only one player in NFL history, Gale Sayers, had more all-purpose yards in his first three NFL seasons than Welker did with the Dolphins; Welker holds the Dolphins' all-time records for total kickoff returns, kickoff return yardage, and total punt returns....
2006 season
After rumors that he would be cut during the preseason, Welker started off being the lone bright-spot of the struggling Miami Dolphins offense. Through five games, he netted a team-high 29 catches and team-high 299 yards. On October 8, he was a huge target for back-up quarterback Joey Harrington, recording a then-career high nine catches for 77 yards in a 20-10 loss to the New England Patriots. On the season, Welker had a team-best 67 receptions for 687 yards and one score. He returned 48 kickoffs for 1,048 yards (22.2 average) and 41 punts for 378 yards (9.2 average).
Ultimately, however, the Patriots decided not to use such an offer, and traded the Dolphins their 2007 second- and seventh-round draft picks for Welker.

RBs are overrated because a good line will make RBs interchangable, but I don't think so.
On a good day, RBs touch the ball 25 times a game running and receiving.
On a good day, WRs touch the ball 10 times a game receiving.
It's even worse to spend a 1st rounder on a WR

Idk why that was in response to my post. WRs > RBs, especially in today's pass happy NFL. Of the teams Blake listed -
Bucs - Keyshawn Johnson and Keenan McCardell were not "average". Keyshawn was a legit #1 receiver and McCardell was a solid #2. Joe Jurevious was also a great white slot receiver with size.
Saints - not average receivers at all. Outside of the one season he was injured, Colston has had 1000+ yards and 8+ TDs every year. Meachem, Henderson, Moore, Shockey and Patten aren't great but they collectively give NO a great way to spread the field out.
Giants - Toomer and Burress are not average. Toomer was always a great go to option on 3rd downs and Burress back then was still a top 15 receiver.

I don't disagree entirely, although in the time that Brady has had Moss and Welker, he still hasn't really been able to produce monster MVP level stats on a consistent basis, the way Manning has. He had that one year, where he had 1 more TD, and a little more yardage than Mannings best year, but had to throw nearly 100 more passes than Manning in order to do that.
Uhm... wasn't that "one year" the first year with Moss and Welker? And then the second year he got his knee destroyed by Bernard Pollard (or whatever his name was)? And last year he wasn't too shabby as he came back.

Welker blew that season. His only good season came the next year and it wasn't even that good. 67 catches and 1 TD, when all the coverage was going to Marty Booker and Chris Chambers. Three is career total.

Before you answer with your X, Y, Z, Welker was running alone on all routes because teams were rolling coverage to Marty Booker, I'll just say this:
The Pats gave up a 2nd and a 7th to get him and immediately extended him the next day.
Was that move overrated?
As for 2005, he was the fourth option in the passing game and a 2nd year player learning the nuances of the pro game.
What exactly did you expect?
Blake

Uh, no? I had no expectations of him. Neither did the rest of the NFL.
But he still is overrated.
Blake

Also.
Julian Edelman was tearing it up when he was put in Welkers spot.
2009 27 rec 359 yds 9.7 YPC 4.5 YAC 1 TD
:lol
Edelman>Welker

Yes Blake. I had no expectations when he was a 2nd year WR on the Dolphins. But he has proven to be the best slot in his time in NE. But he still IS OVERRATED. People think he's one of the best ever and is a sure fire for the HOF.
if he stays healthy for a few more years, he is a HOF, idiot.

I doubt he gets into the HOF.
There are way too many HOF worthy WRs ahead of him on the outside looking in.

Last 2 games of 2009.
10 Catches for 103 yards.
Postseason:
6 catches, 2 TDs against BALT.
good three game sample. :tu
I can see how you think his greatness far exceeds what Welker did in Miami.

If Welker stays healthy for a 15 year career, at his current pace of 76 receptions per year, he would currently finish 2nd all time. Even a 10 year career at that pace would put him in some pretty elite company.
I guess if guys like Cris Carter, Andre Reed and Tim Brown are still waiting, Wes will too.

So your saying Welker is one of the best ever? Fuck this is exactly the bullshit I am talking about. Overrated due to the slot position being glorified in the NE system.
"If he stays healthy" yes.
It's not bullshit. You're just an idiot.
Maybe if you did anything with football or experienced it first hand at a high level, you would know something about it.
Blake's wisdom of words...
saying YPC > YAC
So apparently, Malcom Floyd, Mohamed Massaquoi, Patrick Crayton, Kenny Britt, Brian Hartline, Chris Chambers, and Hakeem Nicks are some of the best in the league?
Over Wes Welker, Miles Austin, Brandon Marshall, Andre Johnson, Greg Jennings, Hines Ward?
Saying either of those two things determines how good a player is just stupid.
You saying YAC > YPC means you love Welker, dumbfuck.
saying that playing opposite of someone means physically playing on the opposite side.
Trying to say because Clark plays the Y means that he does not play opposite of Wayne because he lines up on the same side.
Holy shit no one that actually knows about football would never say such things.
Holy shit I never said such a thing.
No one actually thinks you know much about football other than what size jock strap Henne is wearing.
Blake

So Welker will be one of the best ever if he plays for another 6-7 years?
Lol I dont even need to refute that nonsense.
Lol he easily be top ten in career receptions at the current pace
Lol nothing to refute
You said I stated:
saying that playing opposite of someone means physically playing on the opposite side.
Trying to say because Clark plays the Y means that he does not play opposite of Wayne because he lines up on the same side.
you confirmed I actually stated:
Who was Wayne's counterpart last year?
thanks for confirming that Clark does not always line up opposite of Wayne and that you are talking out of your ass.
You're apparently an illiterate dumbfuck.
The continual self pwnage is entertaining though. :tu

Whats funny is the entire time we are talking about playing opposite the wideout and you said Clark does not play opposite because he does not line up opposite of Wayne.
Good job with that one. Word it differently however you would like, but it still comes out the same with your moronic statements, like Welker will be the best ever.
More reading comprehension failure.
Congrats on officially being dumber than 90210.

We'll see.
We've seen quite a few dominant runs(4-5 years) over the last two decades by guys who don't have a shot IMO at making the HOF.
Herman Moore, Jimmy Smith, Issac Bruce, Torry Holt
The latter two have the better shot but they aren't anywhere near locks.
Then you have guys like TO and Ocho that will be in line behind Brown, Carter and possibly even Reed if voters ding for the circus atmosphere. And then guys like Ward and Carolina Smith who both have excellent resumes as well.
Plus, Welker will be looked at as a compiler, never the best at his position, etc.
It took Monk, who IIRC retired #1 in receptions at the time, forever to get in and the waiting line is only going to get longer for Welker.

all good points.

My guess is he'll end up being lumped in with guys like Derrick Mason and Keenan McCardell; the Hall of Very Good.

But he still is overrated. You put Percy Harvin, Mike Wallace, or Davone Bess in the offense with Brady and tell me if they don't have similar numbers.
When did these guys automatically become better players than Jason Avant and Steve Breaston?
Avant is one of the most underrated WRs in the game.

I say it depends on his health. I guess we'll have a better idea 5 years from now, but if he continues this pace, I'm not sure how he doesn't get consideration.
fwiw, this hall of fame selector has a welker crush:
NFL's toughest player? Easy. Wes Welker......
Six snaps that came, as the Boston Globe's Albert Breer notes, just seven months and 17 days after tearing the ACL and MCL in his left knee. And just six months and 18 days after surgery.
Oh yeah, Welker also had his rotator cuff surgically repaired as well.
Yet there he was last night in Atlanta, catching two passes over the middle, in traffic. One went six yards. The other went 14. There would have been a third reception, but Welker was blown up on a bubble screen when our guy Randy Moss whiffed while trying to block cornerback Christopher Owens.
Perhaps more amazing than Welker's performance last night is the fact that none of his teammates are surprised. The rest of us assumed Welker would miss the first six games on PUP. His teammates knew all along that Welker would get himself squared away in the offseason and be back sooner than later.
...."No disrespect to any other receiver in the NFL, but man, he's the truth," said Patriots' 13-year veteran running back Fred Taylor.
Meanwhile, in Minnesota, the Vikings still await the return of Sidney Rice and his hip from PUP.
