Life after LeBron: Williams tries to move on (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=Auc7Lq54dMQFG.QRrdoxwOO8vLYF?slug=mc-williamscavs092010)
By Marc J. Spears

Mo Williams is 27, healthy and has three years and $26 million remaining on his Cleveland Cavaliers contract. But none of that mattered much to him this summer after he watched LeBron James leave the Cavs to join the Miami Heat. Williams said he was so depressed by James’ exit that he considered walking away from the NBA.

“That’s how bad it got,” Williams said. “I contemplated it. I really sat down and envisioned life after basketball. …I really saw myself not playing.

“It just didn’t make sense to me. …It doesn’t make sense to me.”

Williams played alongside James the past two seasons, serving as the Cavs’ starting point guard and second-leading scorer as they finished with the NBA’s best record two years in a row. Cleveland’s regular-season success, however, didn’t translate to the playoffs, where the Cavs fell short of reaching the NBA Finals both times. Still, Williams felt comfortable in his role next to James. He was named to the All-Star team in 2009 and remained hopeful that, together, they could deliver a championship to Cleveland in the 2010-11 season.

Keep Reading... (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=Auc7Lq54dMQFG.QRrdoxwOO8vLYF?slug=mc-williamscavs092010)

you are right Harlem, that Adrian cat on yahoo has been overly personal with his Lebron stories. But this? This makes Mo look bitch made, not Lebron. Lebron used and abused Mo and when he got bored... dropped him like a true player should. It's just humorous that this cat is acting all female about it. He on some "how can i go on?" ..."was it me" ... type of shit. I can just picture him all alone in his mansion lights off playing Toni Braxton: "unbreak my heart. say you'll love me again ...undue this hurt you caused when you walked out of my life" (paraphrasing)

IIRC, I saw or read an interview where mo said wherever Lebron goes he will follow. "I'm playing wherever Lebron is" he joked. Now the joke is on him.

Cleveland needs to stop the bitching and move on. I still think if they play hard all season and don't use the excuse of Lebron leaving they can be a 40+ win team. That's only decent, but decent is enough to get you in the playoffs in the East. But it seems like they'd rather just keep bitching about Lebron instead.

wouldn't that be funny to see some rockets fans come here and make fun of Mo Williams after that Cuttino Mobley and Steve Francis fiasco:lol

Kings, Magic complete Christie-for-Mobley deal
Associated Press
BOSTON -- Steve Francis became close with Cuttino Mobley during their six seasons as teammates, so the Orlando star was upset when the Magic shipped his friend to Sacramento.

"They shouldn't have traded him," Francis said after a 119-101 loss to the Boston Celtics on Monday night, adding that he was emotionally drained and distracted during the game.

Mobley was dealt shortly before tipoff with forward Michael Bradley to the Kings for guard Doug Christie. Mobley can become a free agent after the season and Christie's defensive skills should help a team that has allowed the most points per game in the NBA.

The Kings gave up Christie, their best defender and a team leader, to add another scorer to their lineup. Mobley averaged 16 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 23 games with the Magic, who acquired him from Houston along with Francis last summer in the seven-player trade involving Tracy McGrady.

But Francis took the departure of his backcourt partner hard.

"I can't put it into words," he said. "Playing with a guy, living with a guy, just knowing that every day when I wake up that's something I can count on, that I'm going to be in practice or in a game with Cuttino.

"Him not being here is going to be tough for me. I don't know what I'm going to wake up for."

The Houston Rockets drafted Mobley in the second round in 1998 out of Rhode Island, then got Francis in a trade after Vancouver took him in the first round in 1999 out of Maryland. They came to Orlando with Kelvin Cato in the McGrady deal.

The trade helped the Magic, who are 18-15. Last season, they didn't earn their 18th win until their 64th game.

"They messed up something that started so good, man," said Francis, an All-Star the past three seasons. "I don't feel there was a need to break something up just because he was going to be a free agent and you don't want to pay him at the end of the season.

“ You don't wait 30 minutes before a game to tell a guy he's traded. ”
— Steve Francis on Cuttino Mobley situation

"You should have known that when you traded for him, so you should have made that decision then."

Coach Johnny Davis understood Francis' disappointment and played him only 27 minutes. Francis finished with 18 points but had only two assists after averaging 7.2 going into the game.

"He's been with Cuttino for six or seven years now, and so it's like losing someone close to you," Davis said. "It's a very emotional time for Steve, and I understand that."

Davis said he found out shortly before the game that the deal had been completed, but Francis was still upset.

"You don't wait 30 minutes before a game to tell a guy he's traded," Francis said. "The way you handle relationships, for me, is going to change the way that I approach the game, more businesslike than anything."

Mo Williams says he was misquoted on retirement (http://matt-moore.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22748484/24778996)
by Royce Young

Last week, Mo Williams said he felt like he'd had enough. After LeBron James left, it just didn't all seem worth it to him anymore. He told Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! that he considered walking away from it all.

Obviously, he didn't because he's about to go into training camp, but still, he had those feelings. Not anything wrong with that.

Only he's saying he didn't.

Williams tweeted late Thursday that he was either misquoted or misunderstood on the retirement talks. He said (http://www.twitlonger.com/show/66041t):

"Just need to put this out there to all my fans about the yahoo story about me retiring, sense it's getting a little out of hand. I was misquoted or misunderstood however u want to put it. I will clear everything up Monday on media day. I was never considering walking away rt now. And especially because lbj left. It made a good story though. Though u know I will never walk away prematurely before my contract is up."

He then said, "That's absorb," which I can only assume the iPhone autocorrect struck again and he meant, "That's absurd."

It's really easy for a player to just say he didn't say something. It's easy to claim misquote after you say something to a print reporter that gets you in a little hot water. But the good reporters, the smart ones, don't delete their audio files right away off their recorders. And Spears says he didn't, tweeting, "Say it aint so @mogotti2 . Got interview taped so didnt misquote u. never worth ruining rep & job to do that. More than welcome to call me.:)" I'm glad he added the smiley face there. Crucial to the context.

It's not like players don't get misquoted though. Dwyane Wade had a 9/11 quote go from really, really bad to nothing at all after FanHouse writer Tim Povtak had a small error in his transcription. But it's also easy for a player to just play the misquote card if the story turns out worse than they thought. Whether Williams actually considered retirement or not is really unknown and maybe he indeed meant it differently, but it's hard to see otherwise from his quote in the original story.

Another example fresh on my mind was Corey Pavin claiming he didn't tell Jim Gray he had guanteed Tiger Woods a spot on the Ryder Cup after Gray reported it. Gray, upset over the hit his credibility would take, went after Pavin over it.

Williams said he'll try and clear things up on media day. Honestly, it's no big deal if he felt that way this summer. LeBron was/is his friend. He was more than a teammate and Williams had some serious man-love for him. And LeBron left. Nothing wrong in hurting a little over it.

But to drop a "I was misquoted!" play a week later? That's absorb.

Cavaliers G Mo Williams hurts groin during workout (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-cavaliers-williamsinjured)
By Tom Withers

Mo Williams’ rough offseason got rougher.

Cleveland’s star point guard, who admitted being hurt by LeBron James’ decision to leave the Cavaliers, injured his right groin Friday while playing at the team’s facility and is expected to be limited for several weeks in training camp.

The team said Williams “experienced right groin pain” on Friday during a workout at Cleveland Clinic Courts, the team’s suburban training facility. After being examined by Dr. Richard Parker, Williams underwent an MRI that revealed inflammation but no tear.

Williams will begin immediate rehab and treatment. The Cavaliers, who will open camp on Tuesday without James for the first time in eight seasons, expect Williams to participate in low-impact activities next week but don’t think he’ll be at full speed until mid-October.

It’s been an interesting week for Williams.

On his Twitter account Monday, Williams said he has been troubled by other non-basketball issues.

“This has been the worst time of my life,” he tweeted. “Dealing with family issues and everything with the team has been very hard. The family issues are more important and the team issues just compounded the problems.”

Then, in an interview with Yahoo! Sports, Williams said he was so depressed after James, his superstar teammate for two seasons and close friend, decided to leave as a free agent for the Miami Heat that he considered retirement. Williams said he lost his “love for the game.”

Williams attempted to clarify his remarks on Thursday, saying the story about him retiring was “getting a little out of hand.”

“I was misquoted or misunderstood however u want to put it,” Williams tweeted. “I will clear everything up Monday on media day. I was never considering walking away rt now. And especially because lbj left. It made a good story though. Though u know I will never walk away prematurely before my contract is up.”

New Cavs coach Byron Scott said last week he had had good conversations this summer with Williams and was excited about working with him.

“I think Mo can be an All-Star,” said Scott, who is taking over a team that led the league in wins the past two seasons but failed to win a title. “I like so many things he does, and I’m expecting him to be one of our leader this season.”

James’ departure wasn’t the only major move this summer for the Cavs. In addition to coach Mike Brown being fired and replaced by Scott, general manager Danny Ferry decided not to renew his contract and assistant Chris Grant took over. In addition, assistant GM Lance Blanks left for Phoenix.

Because James gave them little notice before announcing his intentions to leave, the Cavs were unable to do anything in free agency. They did acquire guard Ramon Sessions and center Ryan Hollins from Minnesota.

Williams recently told The Associated Press that he was excited about playing with Sessions, his former teammate with the Milwaukee Bucks, and was looking forward to playing in Scott’s uptempo offense.
