Michael Jordan and 2K Sports talk 'NBA 2K11' (http://content.usatoday.com/communities/gamehunters/post/2010/10/michael-jordan-and-2k-sports-talk-nba-2k11-/1)
By Mike Snider
Michael Jordan has a history with video games: he first appeared in Electronic Arts' Jordan vs. Bird (1988) and famously was not found in NBA Jam. Now Jordan's NBA history (http://www.nba.com/historical/playerfile/index.html?player=michael_jordan) is a game within a game, the new NBA 2K11, released earlier this week for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and other platforms.
The 2K Sports team had been hoping to get Jordan's participation for a few years. "They came to us about my participation," Jordan said in a rare interview Thursday with Game Hunters. "I haven't done a game like this in such a long time and they proposed certain ideas and concepts and what they thought they could implement into the game. Obviously, my kids are so wrapped up into this stuff. I went to them as consultants and they said it would be cool. That led to me actually getting involved."
In our short phone conversation, His Airness talked about the Jordan Challenges in the game, how the NBA has changed and how he would perform had he been able to switch decades. Later, we also talked with 2K Sports about Jordan's role.
For players who may not have witnessed the NBA's Jordan era, he says, "this is an introduction to me and I live vicariously through my kids. Have I played it? Yeah, I messed around with it. Am I good at it? No. My fingers are way too big to try to play one of these things. I am fascinated by the response I have gotten from everyone who has played the game and seen the innovation and how it's been improved. That's very positive."
How deeply involved were you in the development of the game?
That's one good thing about the whole project. They had a concept of how they wanted to utilize me in certain games and certain highlights. And all of them were great highlights, obviously. So it didn't take much for me to say, let me see how that plays into the whole scenario and once they showed it to me I thought that it was cool.
Which one of the Jordan Challenges will players find hardest?
To me the most difficult of all of them was the flu game. playing sick. That is so hard to do. It has to be a total mental challenge, as well as the physical challenge. If I had to rank them that would be (Number) One. Which is the easiest? None of them are easy. I guess the 63-point game against Boston would be the least of the other ones, because actually I didn't win that game.
I like the fact that once players beat the challenges they can put you on a current NBA team.
I thought that was the coolest part (that) if you get to a certain level now I can play on different teams, which in reality I never got to that, other than the Wizards and I'm not talking about that. When I saw the ads with Kobe (http://www.youtube.com/user/2KSports?feature=pyv&ad=5743796753&kw=NBA%202k11#p/u/0/7djuYz04VoE), I thought that was really unique. What it really does is it educates these kids who probably never saw me play and give me a little bit more of a focus in this era. …That wasn't part of the initial thought process but it has kind of evolved to that.
How has the game changed from your playing days?
It's less physical and the rules have changed, obviously. Based on these rules, if I had to play with my style of play, I'm pretty sure I would have fouled out or I would have been at the free throw line pretty often and I could have scored 100 points.
Of course, there's always the comparison of you and Kobe Bryant. Where does Kobe stand in the status of NBA players through history?
It's so hard to say. I think he is always going to be within the conversations of some of the greatest players who've played by the time he is finished. Where does he rank among those, if you are talking about positions? If you are talking about guards, I would say he has got to be in the Top 10.
The rest of the interview is about the game, hit the link.

Jordan won six titles and six Finals MVPs as the Alpha Dog, with no big even close to being dominant. His bigs were pathetic offensively. Defenses could key on MJ 100%, and they did. Yet he still beat them every time.
Bryant, on the other hand, shouldn't be part of any comparison discussion, because he has absolutely coattialed two offensively dominant bigs, Shaquille and Gasol. Bryant went 6-24 in Game 7 of the 2009 Finals, nearly shooting the Lakers out of the game, yet was handed the Finals MVP trophy as if Gasol didn't exist. The Bryant hero worship is an absolute joke.
The reality is that because Bryant merely tries to be as flashy as Jordan, he's handed things he doesn't deserve because the League has always wanted a Jordan successor, or "Second Coming" guy. At least LeBron plays the way he plays, and doesn't try to go Frank Caliendo on a guy like Jordan.

He would average more than 35-40.
MJ already averaged 37 PPG IN A SEASON in 86-87.
The very next season, he averaged 35 PPG in a season.
He would easily average 40-50 PPG in a series in today's NBA.
Defensive players leave the key WIDE OPEN due to defensive 3 second rule now. This is why you see so many LeBron and Kobe and Wade dunks and layups at the rim now.

Maybe he WOULD get a 100 ... it's possible. MJ is the GOAT. But, he does have to concede when he FIRST started balling (in the mid 80's) he had a SERIOUS advantage ATHLETICALLY on EVERY guard and on many SF's as well. The league was not full of athletes of Jordan's ilk, he was way ahead of his time. IF Mj played right now, he would STILL be the best player because he is such a great fundamental payer AND a great athlete. But he is not a better natural athlete than Lebron who is also a great player too. So I dont buy all the hype that he would average 50 or score 100. I'm not saying it's impossible for MJ ...but I doubt it. Just watch his old games. He was playing Ps3 when everyone else was Genesis. just look at the Utah/Bulls finals there were times during the series where he was being guarded by Hornacek! Now he would not be the best athlete every night and would be guarded by much better athletes at the 2g position. So even though he would get a lot of Ft's he would have better competition too ...

Jordan could have scored 120 points. Players these days suck. People in the 90's were like 10 times better then the players 10 years later....therefore Jordan would have gotten 120 points, 13 assists and probably 20 rebounds. No doubt about it.

I think there has been a number of players that could have scored 100 points if they really wanted to. Only one has accomplished it though. No sense in talking about what MJ could have done... he didn't do it, period, point, blank. MJ has a great legacy, in fact he has the third greatest legacy behind Bill and Kareem. MJ said he wouldn't have let Kobe drop 81 on him, yet we have video of Kobe dropping 42 on MJ in one half. Kobe is already in top 3 for guards in this order, (Magic, MJ, Kobe). Kobe is already 5th legacy wise behind Bill, Kareem, MJ, Magic, Kobe. If Kobe never wins a another title, he's still on pace to end up 3rd on the all-time scoring list.
When you clowns try to reduce Kobe by mentioning the big's that he had to carry to titles, you conveniently forget to mention the great big's that Magic and Bird played with. In essence, you're only proving how great Kobe has become by assuming that he needed no help to win titles. I know this stings the asses of some of you.:lol In your foolish little minds, you think Duncan can reproduce 2003 all over again, then you would have a case for Duncan having a greater legacy than Kobe, but Duncan is finished.:lmao Shaq is running around in Boston thinking the same fucking thing. He's lost all shame, and willing to further tarnish his already tarnished legacy just to tie Kobe for rings. This is comedy for me and the boys to see you all pressing so bad while we just keep getting fitted for rings...:toast

Kobe dropped 33 on MJ when he was only 19. Prime or no prime, no matter how you slice it, MJ could never guard Kobe.
That same game (12/17/97) where Kobe scored 33 Jordan scored 36.
The other game that season Kobe scored 20 and Jordan had 31.
Career head to head they met 8 times:
Kobe scored a total of 182 points for a 22.75 avg.
Jordan scored a total of 196 points for a 24.5 avg.
Kobe didn't win an individual match-up with Jordan until Jordan was playing for the Wizards and was 38 (2/12/2002), 39 (4/12/2002, 11/8/2002), & 40 (3/28/2003) years old.

so lemme see if I follow your quasi-logic...:lol...an experienced and multiple championship winner Jordan barely outscored a teenage or inexperienced Kobe.... and it counts...whereas a slightly more mature Kobe coming into is own but still playing with a ball dominate Shaq and dominating MJ doesn't count because of MJ's age... ok I think I got it...:lol
I watched the tapes and even as a lad MJ's points were primarily scored when Kobe was on the bench he played Eddie Jones or someone else gaurded him. When Kobe played him man to man in 80% of the iso plays Jordan either missed or got blocked or stripped by Kobe head to head.
Jordan never played his career against a player like Kobe...he basically had a free ride ever since Magic retired and the Pistons run ended. There was no competition for MJ and he certainly never played against and beat 3 1st ballot HOF'ers for the title at the same time. :lol
MJ was lucky like I previously said. :toast and his time is coming...that's why he's talking now. Not because he really thinks he could have scored 100 but because the warrior Kobe traveled a far Journey and he's now entered MJ's court yard, sword in hand and looking for MJ's head on a platter. :lol

And Lakers fans in this thread get to STFU once the facts are actually presented again. :lmao
Also, ITT: Laker fan attempting to denigrate the GoaT in a manner that would/should be trolling, but they are so far gone into Kobe fandom that they actually think it's true now.
Jordan didn't care about scoring 100. He cared about winning. Huge difference.

He also cared about gambling and it cost him a year as Stern spanked him, spanked him hard & ran him off.
And once Stern owned him MJ let Stern make a monkey's ass out of him via the D.C. years.

I know it hurts dude...but it's over for Duncan and now Jordan is about to fall...when it's all said and done we'll be debating whether or not Gasol was actually better than Timmy...I think since Timmy is cleary NOT in the GOAT conversation all time or at his position there is some sore pokey holes floating around here....

was in Dallas in Feb. 09. After reading of all the DANGERS in south Dallas, I had to check it out. I think these warnings are written by small town people who have never been to a big city that has actual ghettos. The areas that are so dangerous appear to be your average working class neighborhoods. There are more minorities in the southern sector of the city. I think they are associating skin color with crime and danger. I am a white geeky male and I had no problems in south Dallas. Oak Cliff was actually a pleasant surprise. The English tudor homes are beautiful, and the Bishops Arts District was very nice also.
If you guys (those who post the DANGERS of south Dallas) want to see real ghettos, try the Detroit area.
I never really saw anything that is bad as these guys posted. I was also suprised at how clean Dallas is. Have a lovely!

The True Story of the GOAT.
It all started with a Lucky shot:

He dominated a watered down league while gloating like a pig:
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/Koolbreezey/ball/michael_jordan_00.jpg

He grew up and played with reckless abandon. He was the true "his Airness":

He Took The League By Storm and left "The Champ" in his shadows:

He knocked "the Champ" on his ass, mean mugged and forced "the Champ" to bow:

But Kobe had a vision that MJ was a fraud and fake friend:
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/Koolbreezey/ball/3926474790_93cdc5d309.jpg

If Michael Jordan were a Laker in the current NBA, he could average 45 points a game if he wanted to, and he could score 100 points in a game about once a month if he wanted to.
Point being, the League enables Laker players, as well as the Laker front office.
This is simply the way the NBA works.

People knew Jordan was the best ever back in 92. He was a demigod when he was playing. This isn't some recent development. Problem for the Kobe slobbers is there still a lot of people out there who know shit about basketball.

Today you have, Durant, Kobe, Wade, Lebron, Dirk, Duncan. In the 90's you had Legends like Stockton, Hornecek, Miller, Starks, Eddie Jones and Larry Johnson.

Taking air out of MJ's 100-point claim (http://espn.go.com/blog/TrueHoop/post/_/id/20458/taking-air-out-of-mjs-100-point-claim)
By John Hollinger
Could Michael Jordan score 100 points in a game with today’s more permissive rules for driving ballhandlers? He said he could in a recent interview (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5686980), but looking at things more closely sheds serious doubt on his claim. While Jordan indeed would have benefited from today’s officiating approach, other trends -- most notably the dramatic slowing of pace over the past two decades -- would work against him. Additionally, as great a scorer as Jordan was, he would need a phenomenal increase in his scoring rates to get anywhere near the century mark. Let’s look at the numbers:
Jordan's best season was the 37.1 ppg he averaged in 1986-87. That season the Bulls played the league's slowest pace but still played 3.1 possessions per game more than the average team in 2009-10. Even if the Bulls of that season had dramatically increased their pace to play at a league-average level, Jordan would lose about 3.3 percent of his output (after adjusting to the slower pace of today’s game), other things being equal, and end up at 35.9 points per game.
Let's try to offset against his claim he'd score more easily against today's defenses. It's difficult to imagine him getting the rock much more -- he had the second-highest pace-adjusted Usage Rate in history in 1986-87 and by far the highest of his career -- but suppose he eked out one percent more under today's rules.
Further, suppose that he was so massively effective with today's rules that he led the league in TS% at 66.0 rather than his final mark of 56.2 -- this would be a gargantuan leap, but humor me and suppose it happened.
Assuming all that, 2010 Jordan would have ended up at 44.8 points per game -- still well south of Wilt's record, let alone a hundred. If we put in a slightly less wildly optimistic assumption about TS% -- let's say that he benefited from the hand-checking rules enough to get a 5.2-point bump in TS%, to his career-high of 61.4 -- that puts him at 39.6 points per game.
Which is awesome, of course. But if he could have scored a hundred with today's rules, you'd think he'd at least have come close in the faster-paced days of yore. And the closest he ever came (69 against Cleveland in 1990) was still 31 points short, even with an extra five minutes for overtime.
