Just some random thoughts:

Scotty has really become a caricature of himself with the stupid faces he makes and the retarded way he holds the microphone. I really just don't get this guy. As poor as his performance was, DialIdol has him first as far as I know. I almost wish I didn't like country music because I could just say: Hey I don't like country music so maybe he's good for people that do. Problem is I love country music and get tired of him butchering good songs.

Durbin was good last night. I always say if you're going to pick a song most people have never heard, you'd better sing it well, and I think he did.

Haley on the other hand picked a song from an album that's at the top of the charts right now, which is a lot easier to pull off, even if it's by an amazingly talented singer. I thought she did pretty good, but again it's easier when you already love the song. Couple things I'd change if I could but just nit picking kind of things. In the original for example it ends more abruptly. I know she was going for a big finish, but the song has plenty of big parts, so I would have ended it more abruptly like the original. I think that has a better affect on people and leaves them wanting more.

Also, like she said the emotion of the song is pissed off, but she sang parts of the song as if she was crying out of sadness.

Jacob was good, but I think the studio version is better. The sound guys at Idol seem to continuously do a poor job of mixing and the background music or musicians always wind up being too loud. Maybe it's Jacobs fault for choosing the arrangement and instruments he wanted, but again the studio version is better because the song itself is better when the lyrics and emotion take center stage.

1. Scotty- Nice change up! Good performance. Still had that country flavor in it!

2. Haley- Good performance for me second straight week. Good vocals and kept "growling" to a minimum.

3. James- Good vocals and performance! Would've been really good if not for the screaming towards the end of the song.

4. Jacob- Another good solid performance! The kind that unfortunately many "young kids" don't like.

5. Lauren- I was bored with her performance. That guy who went on stage kind of messed it up for her.

6. Casey- I think Casey's fans are asking themselves, "What the hell was that"? That was not singing by any means!! That sounded like "growl jazz rapping"! If there's such a thing. :lol

Judges as usual stunk up the place! They praised Casey again, which is ridiculous!!

Weird AI season for me. My early favorite, Casey, turned out to be just weird, even if he can play every instrument known to man. I didn't care for James at first, but I have been really impressed with how consistently good he is, and Hayley has grown on me. I thought she was really good last night. 5. Jacob- I thought he sang both songs well, but I guess people are being turned off b/c they don't like his type of music. Well, I probably don't either but I try to listen to his voice and in my "unprofessional" opinion he has a good voice!

The show has gotten progressively worse the past several weeks.

Jacob needs to go home as he is just flat-out boring. I actually think Haley might go home tonight even though I liked her second performances. I just don't know if she picked two popular enough songs. Jimmy really screwed her up with the first song she sang and it looks like she was pissed after she heard the judges reaction. She was probably pushed into doing that song.

House of the Rising Sun was good, but the teen girls that vote for that show have no idea who The Animals are.

There are many things that bother me about AI this season. Too much to point out, but one of the things that gets on my nerves is what James did in yesterday's performance. I know that James is trying to get the crowd involved but in my opinion James or the other contestants have not "earned" the right to "high five" the audiance! James is still a nobody! Just get up there and sing!! I've brought up Simon Cowell and I'll bring him up again. If he were still a judge, he would've let James know about that right away!!

I believe the idols got too used to the "That was beautiful" phrases and sugar coated critiques. It's about time someone in the show mentioned how it really is. I for one think that the producers added Jimmys review to make up for the lack of "judging" by the judges. And i absolutely weclome it.

Well, I don't understand why the judges don't criticize anyone else but Haley, seemingly. They give her a bunch of shit all the time about not knowing who she is as an artist, but they never say anything about how Scotty never gets out of his comfort zone, or neither does James. Or the fact that I can't remember one single performance that Lauren has given all season.

Haley is the only one changing it up, and that used to be almost a requirement from judges in the past, and yet she's getting penalized by it. At least she's showing them some attitude.

That's fine. But at what point do you start criticize the excessive screaming? I am so over American Idol. I told my parents, who adore this show, that it was clear from the start that Scotty, Lauren and Scotty were destined to do well because they were country. The heartland votes. No one else does. After James got voted off I heard a scream from downstairs and I was like 'Umm, don't complain you never vote!"

Like someone else said, this show has jumped the shark for sure. It needs to be moved to CMT if this is going to be the continuous result. There are so many more talented people out there. So sick of it. Thank god it's on Wednesdays and Thursdays. At least I can catch Modern Family and Community on those days.

James lost AI by himself by making last weeks performances his own "James Durbin Concert"! It still a competition and he didn't treat it as one. I think people who were indecisive about him probably got turned off by his "second performance" when he got up on that small stage/platform and stopped singing to intice the audience to sing along/cheer. At that point James was "full of himself" and probably thought he should win. In other words he seemed arrogant! The judges didn't help matters either by telling him he was the best of the night, that he should win, blah, blah, blah!! You take away the Adam Lambert wannabe persona, the flamming pianos, the famous guitar players, explosions, and other props, you are left with a guy with average vocals at best! Scotty, Haley, and Lauren deserve to be in the top 3. Their performances may not have had the explosiveness of James, but they each sang well and stayed true to who they are. They didn't try to imitate someone else!

Scotty- I thought he had three performances tonight! He had his best performance with his first song.

Haley- She had three strong performances tonight especially the Led Zeppelin song.

Lauren- She forgot or lost her way on one of the songs. She did well overall!

Me too! I think the commercial breaks are 10 minutes long. I fast-forward through all of them and all the inane banter and--voila--two hours of American Idol becames 20 minutes of singing.

I would think Lauren goes home, but I'm not sure. Haley's Stevie Nicks and Alanis Morissette songs weren't that good. It seemed like she didn't know the words to You Oughta Know, except the chorus.

Finally, Haley went back to that vocal place I liked when she first got chosen into the Top 36 or whatever. It was definately on the chorus of "You Oughtta Know." Those choruses were easily the best thing about last night's incredibly shitty show.

I don't give a shit who wins, but I say it ends up being "Nashville Star" with Lauren vs Scotty. I really wish it was James in the finals singing with Aerosmith. Oh well :(

Yeah, what a joke it was. I watched for about 10 minutes before completely losing interest...not sure why I tuned in at all anyway.

Also, lol at Lauren "almost losing her voice". Then bringing the doctor out to talk about "spraining a vocal cord".

Sounds like they really exaggerated a sore throat. But she'll probably get sympathy votes out of it.

I watched it too. Before the show, Scotty was a huge, huge favorite (Vegas odds were 1:5 that Scotty would win). But AI did everything possible to give Lauren a shot to compete -- played up that her voice went out in rehearsal for sympathy votes, even had the doctor come on stage, had the judges rave about her, and gave her a better/tear-jerking song for the original.

That said, it will take a miracle for her to overcome Scotty's fan base... but you never know.

Bland,bland,bland.

The rapper guy that performed...was obviously lip-synching- as evidenced by him dropping the mic to his waist-then forgot that there was a vocal part and picked up the mic real fast but it was too late...what a sham...

Lauren was definitely propped to win and the judges did their part to influence all the kids voting...

Lauren will balloon within a year or two and will even make Kelly Clarkson look svelte...

Dissappointing finale throughout, but I liked how Scotty reacted to winning. Am I the only one surprised that he's porking Lauren? WHOAAA!!!I thought it was strange that Lauren wasn't a complete mess after she lost. They kept that secret well, I always thought they were awkward together and more brother/sister - good for them not letting the show blow up their personal feelings.

Casey singing with Jack Black was beyond weird, but overall the finale didn't suck. Also Haley was so awkward with Tony Bennett. I don't like country music but didn't mind Scotty winning. I think he's probably a genuine good kid and will find success in his niche.

They had a pretty star-studded lineup of guest performances. Is the finale always like that? (I have never watched Idol til this season.)

I didn't really get the pairing of Haley and Tony Bennett tbh. I thought they would have paired her with someone like Nicks, or Morrisette...or even Adele. I think that would have made a better pairing and not so awkward.

Overall I thought the finale was pretty good. I thought for sure Lauren would win after last nights AI's attempt to sway the votes her way. Glad Scotty won! He performed well with Tim McGraw! A few comments about some of the top 13 contestants:

James Durbin- LOL, looked kind of gay in that get up of leather clothes and cap! Better suited for the Village People! :lol Good performance though.

Casey Abrams- Jack Black sounded better than Casey!! Casey may not be a good singer but I think he has a place in acting! I think he could be a funny guy! Similar to Jack.

Haley Reinhart- I like when she sings jazz! Her beautiful voice really comes out! It was an awkward pairing with Tony Bennett though.

AI's ratings for the performance finale were 6.2...down 6.7 from last year, so I read.

Even after the ratings were a lot higher than previous years in the beginning of the season, they clearly lost a lot of that viewership along the way.

Is anyone else still watching? I am quite pleased Phillips made it to the final. I know DMB fans don't like him, but he changes the vibe of the show. I don't even really care who wins tonight. They're such different artists and the vote could go either way. I thought it was a good final. This year for their "first single", they got to choose individual songs. Phillips chose a song by an Irish songwriter. I really liked it:

I would too. He's had a couple duds throughout the show, but mostly, he manages to tweek the songs he's been given and put on a pretty nice little performance. I've been impressed. To be honest, I thought his first two performances last night were not great, but he looks like shit. I think he is downplaying how sick he is (I assume the show would be milking it if he wanted to talk about it publicly). His friends are tweeting that he needs surgery pretty much the minute the show is over.
