Back when I was a freshmen in highschool I was flipping the TV channels on a Saturday and I happened to see a guy shooting a FT and below it had the name of Tim Duncan. He was playing in Wake Forest. Autmotically he caught my attention and I saw the rest of the game. Since then I never missed a Wake Forest game and Tim Duncan had become my favorite player of not only in college but my favorite player period.

I would always tell my friends about a Tim Duncan and they would always make fun of me when I would tell them that he was going to be a superstar and a MVP in the NBA. Mainly because they had never heard of him. I saw in Tim Duncan something that I had never seen before in a player. He was modest in the court but in his eyes he just wanted to win. I was drained when they lost to Stanford i in the tournament.

Then came draft lottery. All I wanted was for the Spurs to get the #1 pick because I wanted my favorite player to go to my favorite team. Well it happened and I was excited. I have always stuck by Duncan and have always had hope in him. People might criticize his lack of emotion but no one will every criticize his emotion that he carries in his mind and in his heart. No matter what happends I have trust in Duncan that he will prevail and carry his Spurs to the Finals.

great post, 219. And remember this, the only NBA team to ever defeat a healthy Duncan has been the Lakers.

And they ain't here right now.

I watched Tim Duncan all through his 4 yrs at Wake, because he kicked my Terps' asses for 4 yrs. I knew I wanted him on my Spurs all along.

When SA won the lottery for the first pick, I thought it was devine intervention, and I knew that my life was indeed charmed.

Similar story I caught a wake forest game at Stanford University, I was visiting my cousin there. That was what? the last game Duncan played for them. And I turned and told my cousin he would be in Silver and black the next year. I came home and told my mother about him. To this day she is kind of amazed that I came to her with a name she had never heard of, and predicted he would be our DRob replacement.

His body is breaking down, nuff said. I'm happy Buss didn't shell out 30 million+ per year for an extension...

Yes Drob is good, I have this rookie card....did they make any significant noise in the playoffs...no only until 97-98...I'm just tired of the shit...like when I can't comment on other teams just because my lakers aren't in the playoffs....my point is this...when the spurs sucked ass did you still cheer for them.....

1994: Spurs make it to third round with league's top scorer (Robinson) and top rebounder (Rodman). Lose to the Rockets, who go on and win the Championship.

I'd say that qualifies for some noise.

Yes. I for one went to several games during our tanked season of 1997 when we had 'Nique and Monty Williams running the show. Attendance was pretty good from what I remember.

you're kidding, right? Lead singer of the band garbage. And huge fan of Tim Duncan, apparently.

He was kidding you, of course. I wish Shirley Manson was posting here!

Sorry spur219, I tried to find an old thread on the garbage/shirley manson topic. I remember someone stating that she first came across Timmy when seeing him shoot freethrows on TV, and now she's his stalker. :lol

Someone also mentioned that she self-mutilated herself once, and watching Tim shoot freethrows wasn't helping - of course, well before the 15/15 the other night.

Good judge of talent. You're a pure fan. Thanks for coming to this board.

But, is he really healthy? Word is his right ankle won't be 100% till sometime in the offseason. Damn Olympics!! Hurts us with Tim, Manu and Tony (although France wasn't in last year).

Yea it won't be fully healed until the off season. However I was honestly taken back when I saw that his averages are still as good as they have ever been in the playoffs, I really would have thought they were a little down. His Rebounds were down but his scoring was a little up. I can't wait to see what he does in the finals. He has always had historic performances in the finals.

I remember those years when we were close in advancing while Robinsion was playing he always showed class even when we lost the cameras would run up to him just to get his reaction on T.V. and he would just look congrat the team and step off the court. Well guess what it rubbed off on Duncan and he has stepped up in being that guy D rob was and gets better. It is payback time for all those up close and personal shots the media would take of D rob and the team in the early 90's . Now it is our turn, our time, we have been waiting long enough. Thank God for Duncan, he answered our prayers, and I would say man If only we had a guy like DRob, that was hardworking, classy guy, and a man that loved his team and had heart and be competitive. I am glad it is Duncan!!!! who carries on that tradition. Duncan and Robinsion are the 2 best things that happened to this city and it was great watching them both enjoy some championships together. Duncan keeps that torch burning for the Spurs, and the city of San Antonio. Let's bring back another championship. It will be called " THE RETURN OF THE KING" GO SPURS GO!!!!!!

Geez man, you sound just like a laker fan! The Spurs have NEVER sucked! These guys have character, from the bottom to the top. They are worthy to be cheered, even when the loss column is greater than the win column (which have not been many). They show class and respect for their opponents. Enough about the Spurs "sucking"! Not only do they have character, but how can you say they did not make any noise in the playoffs before Duncan? They were right there with all the great teams of the 90's. The point is, the Spurs have dedicated fans. Even when Duncan wasnt there, we were there!

GO SPURS GO!
