He called two crucial timeouts before PHX made runs tonight. Key word: "before"

Yep, at least he learned from game 4.

He also had enough faith in Beno to give him more run tonight. Beno was 3-3, 2-2 from the 3 pt line, had 8 points, 1 board, 1 assist, and 0 turnovers

You should have seen chat smeagol.

I think the best comment out of "sense" was something along the lines of "Tony is playing like a pussy, it's not Pop's fault he's still in the game".

And the expanded thought on that was that Pop doesn't coach the team, he lets the players do their own thing. :lol

That makes you a true Spurs fan. I've done that and been there, but you can congratulate yourself on your stick-to-it-tiveness. That could very well be why Spurs Fans Rule!!!!!
Next time, check out the damn motel. I once had the same experience and had to hike a couple of miles to a bar and beg the barkeep to turn the Spurs game on. Last time I ever stayed at one of those cheap-ass motels, which aren't all that cheap in the scheme of things.
The worst part was hiking back from the bar to the el-cheapo motel with a few too many beers under my belt. Being a Spurs fan is not always easy...

Pop appeared to pull out a 3-2 or 1-2-2 zone (couldn't quite tell) in the 2nd half and it really disrupted the flow for PHX a few times. Nice adjustment. Perhaps he purposely saved that one for after the half.

This is interesting, from the ESPN Daily Dime:

The most ingenious trick the Spurs used to keep the Suns from playing at their usual breakneck tempo: switching on the Suns' pick-and-roll plays in the third quarter.
Maybe you noticed how many times Steve Nash found himself guarded by Tim Duncan or Robert Horry on the perimeter, or how many times Amare Stoudemire found Tony Parker or Manu Ginobili attempting to check him in the post. Most sound-principled defenses don't switch because it creates easy opportunities for a quick guard to drive or pull up on a slower big man and a forward or center to back down a puny opposing guard.

The Spurs did switch, though, for long stretches of the game, and it was bait the Suns couldn't help themselves from taking. Time and again, they found themselves with a mismatch, spaced the floor and allowed Nash or Stoudemire to go to work.

The problem: it burned time, dragged the overall tempo, and lulled the Suns into playing a style that didn't get their crowd going or the Spurs tired.

"That did it," said Suns assistant coach Alvin Gentry. "Every time we saw a mismatch, we'd back the ball out and pound it trying to take advantage. That slowed us down as much as anything. It was truly smart on Pop's part."

The third quarter, of course, is the only period the Spurs outscored the Suns, taking an eight-point lead they never relinquished.

I was once a Pop hater (back in 2001-2 when we were repeatedly destroyed by those Laker teams), but everything I've seen in 2003-5 says towards good things. He is one helluva lot better than most people know.

Most of all, he has the trust and respect of his players which makes a huge difference to their performance, and even their recontracting decisions. I'm glad he is one of us.

I thought all that switching bigs onto Nash was faulty, but then I saw that it was turning Nash from a distributor into a scorer. Now Manu and Bruce did great jobs on Q and Marion respectively, but the switching made things even easier since their point guard wasn't looking for them as much as usual.

For sure one of the best in the league, but he never gets no credit. I guess bc he has a great team with the best player on it....well Phil had the greatest ever his first run, and the 2 greatest at the time his second run, and every one is always all over him.

Ps.... Is it Pop or Adelman who is the longest tenured coach now???

I wish Avery Johnson could've done some of the tactics that Pop made during the Dallas series. Avery is a rookie coach but couldn't find any tactics to slow down the suns like switching on the pick n roll with Henderson.

You should have seen chat smeagol.

I think the best comment out of "sense" was something along the lines of "Tony is playing like a pussy, it's not Pop's fault he's still in the game".

And the expanded thought on that was that Pop doesn't coach the team, he lets the players do their own thing. :lol

I think you need to quote me right next time..

You didnt even get the shit right when it was infront of your face.

The best thing was...that your ass never admitted that I was right..instead you were putting words in my mouth.

I seriously think you have ego issues.

You should have seen chat smeagol.
I remember him making huge contributions in the chat room back in November/December (right at the time VK was making an ass of himself in the chat room too).

Then he went quiet for a couple of months.

Now he is back with a vengance :lol

All i can say is that beno fucking owned partially to night and that i seroiusly think parker was saving his energy for the fourth but ended up using it all gradually on defense, and duncan fucking saved us with his bad ass feild goal percentage, also bowen and barry's threes were unfathomably huge

Agreed.

Plus Manu hit two clutch FTs (Manu had a very quiet (ineficient) game, but nice stats though: 19/8/6).

Cant_Be_Faded, who was Kori talking about in the quote in your sig? (LOL indeed!)
