Any takers? Shit, I'll go out there and give it my all.

As much as I hate to say it, Amare is becoming as close to an upstoppable force as there is in this league. I always thought he was overrated, but dude can ball.

Amare is the next post playing superstar. He IS unstoppable. He is averaging close to 40 a game against us.

Last guy I remember who did that was Hakeem, and he carried him team all the way that year.

If this Phoenix team would try to be just ALITTLE balanced, they would be even more dangerous, IMO. Amare is a beast in transition and in the half court.

MadDog73
05-24-2005, 11:15 PM
I would say deny him the ball, but with Nash passing, that's also next to impossible.

Hopefully the Spurs will come up with a better solution before Saturday (just in case....)

He can score in just about any situation. He's really impressed me in this series. The Spurs haven't been able to do much to stop him with single coverage.

With a foundation of Amare and Nash and some really solid support players, they could really do some damage if they learned to play a little bit of defense. If they could even be average defensively, they would be very difficult to stop. And if they could be above average defensively, they would win this series.

But they aren't. And as such, things don't look good for them.

As stated in the Blame Glog, I hope Amare scores 50 in a losing effort.

At this stage of his career, Amare < Kemp.

I say concentrate on Nash!

It has worked so far, 2-0!

This season we are 4-1 with Amare dominating. Let him get his, we can win that way!

How bout that nice bricked layup!!!

Few years from now, those mistakes are gone!! He is a beast, no doubt about it!!

BTW, what was up w/ Waltah??? Did he even play for the Suns?

Amare is an offensive beast like Nash, and like Nash, Amare isn't worth shit on the defensive end.

Amare is an offensive beast like Nash, and like Nash, Amare isn't worth shit on the defensive end.

I don't think it's as much Amare's defense as much as it's D'Antoni's philosophy. D'Antoni hates fouls which is the real reason the Suns give up a lot of points. A foul stops the game and if you feel you have the best conditioned team, you never want the game to stop. A couple times Amare could have contested shots, but he more than likely would have committed a foul. Even though he wasn't in foul trouble, stopping the clock is considered taboo to his coach.

PM5K
05-25-2005, 12:50 AM
I think part of what you have to understand is that we don't need to stop him or Nash to beat them. Having said that Amare has gotten the kind of calls that Jordan used to get only he's not Jordan and those calls have certainly helped.

Amare doesn't get calls any more than Duncan, Manu or Parker. The majority of his calls are because he's being contested in the key--not wide open jumers.

amare hasn't really impressed me at all. he is a one dimensional player like nash. he can score all he wants to, but he's still gonna give it up on the other end. the only thing i have ever seen him do on defense is come from the weak side to block shots on someone else's man. at least kobe and iverson play both sides of the game. when it matters and he has to guard duncan, he gets schooled - badly. if duncan was able to guard him the whole game and not instantly get in foul trouble, i think we would see quite a bit less production from amare. let him score, it's great for us.

I gotta disagree, the guy gets calls that Duncan should be getting but he's not Duncan, the only guy that got to the line more than him was Duncan.

There were at least a few times he wasn't fouled and got to the line.....

I think your perspective is a bit skewed. Duncan is the best PF in the game. Who expects Amare to stop him?

Duncan also isn't taking it to the basket like Amare. How many banked jumpers did Duncan take and make tonight? Amare can hit the jumper, but he tries to take it to the basket with such force that all you can really do is foul. Duncan has such a good perimeter game that he doesn't allow himself to get fouled as much.

But since both are superstars, they are going to get the calls.

And only 22. If he's putting up these numbers now, just wait until he's 30.

The late Cotton Fitzsimmons said during the rookie camps Amare's rookie year "This kid is an amazing basketball player. And hopefully in the next couple years we can teach him how to play basketball."

Many don't realize that he only played one full year of high school basketball.

Why hate? He's a phenomenal player. The only thing that irks me about him is his mouth... saying that he's better than KG and whining about not being invited to the three-point shootout because he has a good long range shot

Catharsis
05-27-2005, 12:52 AM
Give him a break. He's 22 years old. He only went as early as he did in the draft because the Suns wanted him badly. Portland was the only team with him even on the radar. Defense will come, and the defense you're talking about is the SUPER HUMAN Tim Duncan shut down defense--although Duncan hasn't even been able to stop Amare. He'd average more rebounds if he didn't play side by side with Marion and have to guard centers all the time. He gets the blocks and as he continues to mature and develop I believe he'll best Kevin Garnett as a defender.

As for the pushup, put it in context. He made a great play, was fouled hard and while he was laying face down on the court, he thought he'd get more of a work out. :) Seriously, he's got a good personality and for the screwed up life he had until the NBA, he's actually turned out to be pretty decent as a human being--no worse than Shaq.

But again, he's only 22 years old.

I had a dream of Tim celebrating winning the finals again..............:)

I am curious to see how Tony plays this game. If Spurs want a chance at the championship, Tony is going to have to adjust his game when the lanes are packed--which is what Heat will do, or when he has a tougher, stronger defender on him---which is what Pistons will have.

I know Tim's going to have an awesome game tonight. How Tony plays tonight will truly show us how much he's grown/evolved this past year, I think.

Fuck, put Horry on Matrix and Bowen on Joe Johnson.

All you have to do to guard Matrix is stay tight on him on the perimeter and stay between him and the bucket elsewhere. Why we need Bowen to do that when Joe Johnson is lighting us up is beyond me.

Tim Duncan

The name says it all. He's here to play and he's hear to dominate. He looks like he's not scared of a cracker with a gun. He's playing Amare tough using his strenghth contesting shots like a mofo and attacking HARD on the offensive end.
