Sprained left ankle, not returning tonight. Severity unknown, but the doctor did give a thumbs up.

Sprained left ankle; no word on severity yet. According to Fox Sports reports, one of the doctors came out of the tunnel and "gave the thumbs up" after looking at him, so hopefully it won't be too bad.

Tim was helped off by Novak, but was slightly walking on the ankle when he left the court.

The worst I've heard in a while is Chuck Hayes who was out 2-4 weeks.

I haven't seen the clip of what happened yet but I'm still optimistic that in the worst case scenario that he will be back for the playoffs. If he's going to strain his ankle at least it happened at home where he can get immediate treatment. That to me is the biggest key on how severe this can be is that he's going to get treated right away the faster the treatment starts the lower the healing time it will take.

Best case scenario:
Grade 1 sprain out for 1-2 weeks

Worst case scenario:
Grade 3 sprain out for 8-12 weeks

That's why I said "depending who they play", genius.

If we play the legend Channing Frye and the Suns or the Hornets maybe Pop will consider resting Tim for a few games during that series since those are sweepable teams.

Spurs would need Duncan against the Hornets...they could easily sweep us if Tim is not in there.

This reminds me of 2000...hope we don't end up relying on someone like Samaki Walker come first round...

I've said this a gajillion times, so apologies to those who are tired of reading it:

When you've hurt your ankles before, turning it again hurts like a fucking bitch. That's why Duncan rolls on the floor holding his ankle like it's destroyed. It's also why Kobe thought his season was over the other day and was surprised that his foot wasn't flopping on the end of his leg. There's simply no way to tell the severity at the moment, but if there was a thumbs up, it's sort of likely that it started to feel better almost immediately. Someone at the game should keep an eye out to see if he walks out in street clothes without a limp in the second half.

dn0774
03-21-2011, 08:57 PM
Ok, injuries are never good...but 2 weeks to let the ankle recover also means 2 weeks of rest for his knees. Contrary to what was mentioned earlier in the this thread, an ~80% Tim is required to advance through even the first round, let alone any further.

There is also a solid chance that it could be a very small tweak and Pop/the training staff would rather just be safe and use this time to let him rest. The first seed is all but locked up and with tough games coming up this is also a way of not allowing teams to build confidence off of winning games against us since any wins are tainted for the other team.

It shouldn't be a problem. The Spurs have enough of a lead that their seeding should be safe. It might be good for the Spurs actually. I just think you should make sure and rest Duncan at least for a couple of weeks. Did I mention we play the Spurs twice over the next 2 weeks? :toast

Whisky Dog
03-21-2011, 09:55 PM
The Spurs have a 7 game lead with 12 to play. There's wiggle room to let TD heal and rest Manu and Parker down the stretch. Splitter came through with a double double and helped the team tonight, and this is his chance to grab onto a rotation spot. I think the Spurs are in great shape as long as TD actually comes back healed and limber with some gas in the tank in 2 - 2 1/2 weeks and everything else stays fine.

Thumbs up means it's obviously not Grade 3. Either way just shut Tim down the rest of the year, maybe even the first round of the playoffs depending who we play first round.

That would be idiotic. Do you know how bad his conditioning would be? Shutting him down for the first round? Imagine if that happened, he would look awful on court.

I like the scenario that they have made up for him now. He is going to rest for 2 weeks than he is going to play the last 5 games or 3 games depending on whether Pop decides to not play him and Parker + Ginobili for the last 2 games. It should work out perfectly.

Mugen

highly unlikely yes, but the Spurs have a brutal 5 games ahead (6 if you count the b2b against Houston)....

we got 2-4 or 1-5 in that stretch combined with how the Lakers have been playing and things get a little too close down the stretch...

Not sure if this has been posted, but I got it from my fantasy team page:

Mon, Mar 21
Spurs radio analyst Sean Elliott reports that Duncan (left ankle) will miss about two weeks, according to NBA.com's Art Garcia.
Recommendation: Duncan looked to be in significant pain, and with the Spurs close to locking up the top seed in the Western Conference, the team has little incentive to rush Duncan back sooner than he's ready. If he misses exactly two weeks, he'd return with just five games left in the regular season. Fantasy owners may have to accept the fact that they might be without Duncan's services for most (if not all) of the remainder of the regular season.
