Looks like Bertans is coming over for next season:
@DBertans_44: Bogdan (@LeaderOfHorde) is Serbian Kobe Bryant. He might have a better shot than Bryant. Next season we will both be in the NBA
Awesome, cash in on a stash and bring in his baller buddy. This team needs more upside on the bench.

So there is a chance he will be playing in Summer League?

Not trying to question you, but where do you refer to for list of agents? I didn't see his name listed anywhere. I also saw a report about a month ago that said he intends to only come for summer league and come back to Serbian league next season.

This makes the most sense in my opinion. Just cannot see Bertans coming over to get very little PT with the spurs when he can recieve 25+ mpg in a competative league and continue rounding out his game.

How many games did Austin play in? No how many minutes did Austin play for the Spurs?

Neither Daye or Bertans will make a difference when it comes to a ring or not but I'd rather bring Bertans in now. Better for him to play with and learn under Tim Manu and Pop while this thing is still going full force. Nothing against Daye, boy can shoot but I don't think his ceiling is very high.

Next season would basically be a red-shirt year for Bertans. Lots of time in Austin with occasional call-ups to the bigs and stints with the Spurs. Could be more frequent depending on how many injuries we have during the season. Probably plays the 14th or 15th man role.
Honestly, I'm fine with that. Hes going to need time to adjust to the NBA game, and now is a good time to get it done. I'd much rather roll my dice on him than Austin Daye.
He only has to beat Beli to get some serious minutes, seems pretty easy to me given how hard he seems to play defense...

Haven't really seen him play, either. I know that it was a weakness of his when he was drafted. But it was also something that he made a focus to work on after the Spurs picked him. I think he has pretty good tools on that end, having elite length for his position and having decent speed. I think he was lacking in the quickness department, so I don't think he'd ever be elite on defense. I believe he was foul-prone this season (like fouling out in multiple games, which shouldn't happen for a wing), so he's still a work in progress. But he obviously tries to guard people, and that puts him ahead of a lot of players.

I hope this guy pans out. He is the first Spurs draft pick that I got right since I started really paying attention to it a couple of years ago.
Defensively, he lacks some lateral quickness which could be bad, however, if he gets over his habit of letting his length do all the work on defense he would be a pretty damn good defender.

Someone more knowledgeable than I am (could be just about anyone), I believe jyra, said his foul problems this year were at least partly due to having to guard power forwards who play in the post.

The last match. There was a great example of how how Bertans can help out under a minute left in the first, an action designed to get Bertans the three at the top that he just drills.

I have watched a couple of his games this season and he would frequently switch between guarding SF/PFs. That's a really hard adjustment to make ingame. I think that's one of the reasons for his high foul rate this year. Let's also not forget that he just came back from a major injury.
I'm hope we can see him in Summer League play. That should make it easier to evaluate his defense when going up against NBA-level athletes.

Hope he's apart of the summer league squad. Looking forward to catching acouple of their games at UNLV.
Wonder if the Anderson pick means Davis stays in Europe one more year. From a roster spot point of view, spurs picking domestic would make it less likely unless they cut Daye. Of course Baynes and Mills could get rich offers elsewhere so who knows

Spurs draftee Davis Bertans is still hot commodity and Partizan is facing its own share of financial woes. A team that thrives into producing players and selling them, may have to part ways with the Latvian forward and Galatasaray is interested.
Despite the recent quotes of coach Dule Vujosevic in Serbian press who said that recently drafted Bogdan Bogdanovic will leave the team and Bertans will stay, everything depends on the right offer. Nothing is set in stone yet, but Bertans can be a fit in Istanbul. His buy out is 200.000 euros and Galatasaray, after parting ways with Pops Mensah Bonsu, is examining the available front line options on the market. Βertans is one of them.
Galatasaray will play in the Euroleague next season so that would be a decent destination.

Well, according to kosarka.si (which is not always right about everything they say, but still), what Bogdanovic said a couple of days ago, about him and Bertans playing in NBA next year, it was all bullshit.
Bogdanovic will stay in Europe for now, and probably Bertans will too. The site says Bertans got offers from Galatasaray and Olympiakos. The Turks are offering 200k € buyout to Partizan.

I've seen Timmy win one more and now I want to see the young guys start to come in.
Year of Baynes! Year of Kawhi!
Year of Bertans?
If he's getting offers from big clubs like Galatasaray and Olympiakos I see the spurs leaving him in Europe to see what he can do against better competition.

I've watched all three of his Adriatic league games, and my conclusion ...
He can play RIGHT NOW. Would he get better with another year in Europe? Sure. But he's not a premee who is too raw that pulling him out of Europe would be tragedy.
His defense is mostly fine, especially his team defense. He usually had the Green role off the ball of helping off the corner and then getting back, and he was solid. He knew what was going on. He had a little trouble with guys driving on him because his knee brace gives him that stiff leg gait that Duncan has now, but being honest, he doesn't look worse than Marco. I think he's better than Marco straight up, but level of competition could be deceiving
He's a good passer (in context for his position). He moves the ball. He looks like he sees the court well enough to be good in the spurs offense .
Plus, he's an awesome shooter. Quick to pull the trigger, and more importantly, unafraid. And a bonus is that he would draw fouls with his drives because he would catch opponents off guard
He plays like a fast, skinny armed and narrow shoulder Bonner. Weak now with strength and post defense maybe, but with the added bonus of coming off screens in a deadly way and quick trigger that's hard to block.
He could pay with Kawhi and have Kawhi play smallball 4 and do pretty well I think.

The true question should be do the spurs need Bertans for the coming season? The answer is no, they do not. A player like Daye would probably be better for the spurs than Bertans at this point in his career. Bertans almost lost an entire year due to his knee injury and has been more of reserve type player up to this point. Let him get another season in Europe and hopefully he will gain more confidence and maybe even become a top 1 or 2 player for his club. No need to rush him over at this point.
objective
06-30-2014, 03:22 PM
I don't disagree with the greater points. He likely wouldn't get much time, and the don't truly need him, he would be a luxury.
But I think there's something to be said for getting him into the spurs culture for real while there is still time. After next season, the roster might be devoid of players with experience in the spurs winning ways beyond Kawhi, splitter, and Kyle Anderson. So what happens if the big three are gone and maybe pop is retired to wine country?
I think being here for a year and absorbing knowledge and learning by watching will be incredibly helpful. I've read about how Kawhi would learn by being with Duncan, and you can see the moves he's picked up from Parker and Manu. I think I've even heard Kawhi himself talk about how important the big three are too his development. I've heard players in other sports talk about the importance of young pups learning from old dogs, the benefits of it.
If the big three have only one year left, if the spurs winning environment with high standards and expectations had only another year at this level, then Bertans being a part of that I feel is better for him than playing more minutes against Prokom or Rytas or Valencia or whoever he would play against.

I think theres a strong chance that the Spurs could cut Daye in training camp. In other words, they're optimistically hopeful about Daye, but definitely not unwilling to simply jettison him if needed.
I sure hope so at least. I think Daye isn't worth the roster spot personally.

I don't know, spurs have eaten more money than that before. They owed Mercer more than 1.5 million iirc after they cut him in late February. Different timeframe, but more money. There's been other instances I'm sure of guys at camp who has guaranteed salary and were cut. Lloyd Daniels maybe?

Thats my point, I think they might consider just eating his guaranteed salary if he doesn't work out. Undoubtedly a long-shot, especially for a very frugal Spurs team, but I really think Daye will be that underwhelming.

Galatasaray is no more in the race for Davis Bertans, according to Ismail Senol.
The Latvian forward whose NBA rights belong to the Spurs is too expensive for the Turkish team.
Bertans has contract with Partizan Belgrade and the buyout to free him is too high for the Turkish powerhouse.

While I think it would be valuable for Bertans to spend next year in the system, I think the Spurs value roster flexibility and could make the case (as many of you have) that additional time overseas could be just as valuable. I don't have an opinion on whether he should come or not, but I doubt he will cross the pond this summer.

I also doubt that he's brought over, and that disappoints me. If the spurs bring everyone back, then okay. But I hope that no washed up players are brought in over Bertans. Like Rashard Lewis, who can only shoot threes, which I think Bertans can do better, and simultaneously be no worse than Lewis at other parts of the game.

there's this fiba article that I believe is very recent:
http://www.fibaeurope.com/mobile/coid_YzOTWwEdHqQHR9NkPD9-Q2.articleMode_on.html
Latvia head coach Ainars Bagatskis has welcomed back plenty of familiar faces at his team's first practice session of their training camp for the upcoming EuroBasket 2015 2nd Qualification Round.
...
"Davis Bertans meanwhile will travel to the USA to train individually."
The youngest of the Bertans brothers had debuted with the senior national team at EuroBasket 2011, at the age of 19, but missed out on last September's EuroBasket due to a remarkably unfortunate incident as the ACL in his right knee was torn in Partizan Belgrade's last game of the 2013 season.
"All these players have regularly played for the youth national teams in the past and have confirmed that they will gladly play for the senior team in the future," Bagatskis clarified to dispense any long-term worries.
"I respect the players' choices," the Latvian coach stated.
"Participation in national teams is voluntary and our players do not receive any remuneration for it.
"I just want to remind that our national teams are organised, as far as possible, in a way that takes into account the individual needs of the players.
"I hope that the young players will achieve their objectives this summer, be successful with their clubs in the new season and work even harder to be candidates for the national team."

Isn't he equally free to sign with a bigger club in Europe? I think he just didn't want to be hostage to the buyout game while his team was going through money problems. Clearly they NEED to sell him to someone, and perhaps Bertans thought the uncertainty could lead to a lost year of development, etc.

Yes, he is free for any team in Europe as well. He is a free agent so Partizan can't sell him to anyone.

They are not "okay", but contract termination was done by the rules, since they have financial problems and the salaries are not regular - a player can simply leave the club.

He plays for the French team that Tony owns, so, probably not.
Bertans says the decision to sign with Baskonia was more for basketball reasons rather than for financial reasoning. Bertans wants to work under new Baskonia head coach Marco Crespi, and he also mentioned how he’ll be playing in the Spanish ACB League, as well as the Euroleague with Baskonia.
As for where he stands with the Spurs, Bertans expects he’ll be making the leap to the NBA sometime in the next two seasons.
“I think they count on me as a player in the next two years.”
Bertans said the Spurs were supportive of him signing with Baskonia because they’ve had a respectable relationship with the club before, when Tiago Splitter played there, while they’re also monitoring 2011 draftee Adam Hanga currently in Baskonia. Bertans also stated that his contract with Baskonia has an NBA-opt out after each season.
In his discussions with Coach Crespi, Bertans says he’s 95% sure he’ll be playing the small forward position with Baskonia, but he’ll also play some time at the power forward spot. When asked about some of the Spurs’ current players on the roster, Bertans said with San Antonio, you have to be able to play multiple positions, not just one central position.
On his summer, Bertans said he flew to Santa Barbara, California for physical tests, then trained with the Spurs’ Summer League team in Las Vegas, but didn’t play in the games. Bertans says he’ll return to San Antonio to work with the Spurs’ trainers individually before heading to Spain for preseason camp with Baskonia.

Man. With Davis Bertans, Livio Jean-Charles, and Kyle Anderson all set to join our roster, the Spurs have been able to stockpile plenty of young talent for the post-Duncan era. :hungry:
Bertans and Deshaun Thomas will meet up today (21:30 CET) in a great super cup matchup between Baskonia and Barcelona. I'm really curious to see how big of a role both guys will play.
Appreciate the posts on Bertans and Jean-Charles, jyra. It's nice to hear how Bertans is developing and it's nice to hear anything about Jean-Charles.

Pretty good game for Bertans. He showed off his quick release and showed that he can be more than just a stationary shooter. He had a nice one dribble pull up off the handoff and made a smart cut for an open three. I really like that he moves quite well for a guy his size which puts pressure on the defense when he is running off screens.
Thomas on the other hand struggled quite a bit. He actually started at SF (and played all of his mintues there) but was benched for the rest of the half after picking up two quick fouls. Got some more run in the second half but never looked quite right commiting some unnecessary TOs. It's going to be difficult for him to play on a stacked team like Barcelona where he only has very few minutes to make an impression and the competition for playing time is tough.
The two actually ended up guarding each other for a couple of possessions so that was fun to see.
Scored 24 points on 10/13 FGs (no threes!) in the season opener against Barca. His team got blown out by 22 points so I'm not sure how many points came in garbage time. I hope to catch a replay of this perfomance.
Deshaun Thomas was scoreless in this game.

So Bertans is looking good so far while LJC and Thomas are both struggling. Let's hope that Livio can get it together, since it's nearly guaranteed that he'll be over next year. Bertans coming over too would be nice, but he and Anderson would be an awkward fit.

What I liked most in that game is that he was really active on the weak side and rarely just standing around. With all those floppy plays and wing pick and rolls being run, he shouldn't need too much time to adjust to the Spurs' system.

Thanks a lot for the vid. The way Laboral Kutxa uses Bertans is pretty much how an actualized Danny Green would get his touches. At his size, it should be really hard to contest Davis' shot, especially when he's coming off a screen. I assume he'll hit a larger number of those shots in a bigger sample.
Defensively, he looks a lot like Anderson in that he's a combo-forward in a bad way but has the length and intelligence to make a difference through help defense. However, Bertans is more athletic than Kyle is, so there's plenty of hope that Davis can develop into a legit small-forward with strong coaching and S&T.

Awesome! Thank you jyra!
Pretty much agree with what Chinook said. Bertans' passing looked pretty good and he was able to get his shots off with defenders right on him. His defender was usually right with him, but Bertans' height and form allowed him to rise up for decent shots. He won't shoot such a high percentage on those shots normally, but if he gets to the Spurs, he'll get higher percentage shots. They ran a lot of plays off screens for him. It looks like he's going to be featured in the offense at times. I thought his defense was hard to gauge, but he was moving and the effort was there. The Spurs should get a pretty clear picture of Bertans' game against decent competition this year.

Dude, Davince Resolve eats a lot of resources. Very heavy. Tried using it on my laptop with a decent specs, I wasn't able to use it properly as compared with Adobe Premiere and Sony Vegas that I'm using. I dunno if this post is somehow in blue font. And I think it doesn't have the free version but it has a demo. It's somehow belongs in high-end video editing software especially for color grading.
Thanks a lot, that looks good. I will try to use it the next time I make a video.
Finding a free video editor is hard as compared to image editor (GIMP). But try using the following below:
VSDC Free Editor
Free Video Cutter
Or you can look around below for free software:

good game by bertans againts neptunas (too weak team)
20 points, 4 rebs, 2 blocks, 1 asist, 2 TO
4/7 3 pts, 4/6 2 pts
he is a great shooter. after saving himself from screen sending ball to rim so quick. he is tall but nearly as quick as danny green. he played solid and was the first choice of baskonia's offense. he has some weaknesses. 1- he should improve his ball handling side. he was too shaky in 2 balls 2- he should improve his defense. he did not do well againts short players 1to1 3 times. 3- he should try to drive rim
he will get better and better. beacuse baskonia is the best team for a player to improve himself in europe
my english is not well, sorry.
Strong outing in the first Euroleague game of the season against Neptunas (one of the weakest teams in the Euroleague). Led his team in scoring with 20 points on 8/13 FG and 4/7 3PT (including a nice pull up in transition). As usual he did a lot of running around screens and being active off the ball. He commited a couple of TOs trying to create of the dribble but also had a nice assist on a corner three.
The defensive end was more of a mixed bag. His lack of foot speed and strength got exposed a couple of times for some easy points at the rim but he also managed to use his length and get two blocks. I think he made some questionable decision rotating early on defense and leaving his man open but that could just be the coach's call.

Concur. That's what makes the Think Tank great. I can't wait for the season to start so that the Tank will get back to its regular use.
Man, I'm so excited for this kid to come stateside. :hungry: What do you guys think his ceiling is?
He turns 22 next month, so he still has time to improve, but I still see his ceiling as a solid rotation player in the NBA as a shooting specialist, which is pretty good for a second round pick. Then again, he might not cut it. Personally, I think he'll make it.
I could see Daye not being re-signed next summer and Bertans taking his place as project 3/4 shooter (a decent upgrade imo).
His ideal ceiling is probably Peja Stojakovic, quite smiliar in size and playing style. It's obviously too early to tell if he ever gets there but I'm confident that he cracks the rotation as soon as he comes over.

I don't see him cracking the rotation for a while. The Spurs will have a glut of forwards next season. Anderson looks like he'll be a lock to get minutes in 2015, so it'll depend on one of them being able to play the two. Then add in LJC, and it's going to be a battle.
Wow. :wow Stojakovic was a 3x All-star and 2x All-NBA'er. You think he can be that good?
No, I don't think that he will be that good but I would think it's natural to start with a high ceiling. Peja was much more productive in Europe before he made the jump to the NBA and also was more solidly built. But Bertans possesses the same quick, high release and is much more than just a stationary shooter.

That's going to depend on wether the coaching staff sees Bertans as a 3 exclusively or tries playing him as a stretch 4. I would agree that Bertans probably won't see many minutes at SF but I can see him taking the Bonner role as a situational shooter. So spot minutes instead of regular rotation is probably the safer bet.

Pretty quiet game for Bertans, 6pts+4rebs. He never got open from three and had to force a couple of shots. That one handed jam was nice.
Dangubic didn't put any remarkable stats but played a big role in shutting down the P&R attack by blanketing Thomas Huertel (who usually is the main playmaker for Vitoria) especially in the second half where he was matched up with him for almost 15 straight minutes.

Aside from the fact that this Latvian kid almost has an awesome forename, Bertans has the ability to become a legit sharp-shooting small forward in the NBA.
Bertans’ shooting mechanics are excellent and he owns an ultra-quick release to his stroke. The 2011 draftee is a pure shooter who can knock down shots running off screens or creating off the dribble (even though the latter element is still a work in progress).
Bertans improved his passing game and dished out a number of eye-opening dimes this season. Yet, he’s still averaging just one-or-fewer assist per game. The 22-year-old Euroleague veteran signed a long-term deal with Spanish club Laboral Vitoria this offseason, and is playing significant minutes in the Spanish ACB — the toughest league in Europe.
Bertans’ coach is Italian tactician Marco Crespi, who once served as director for international scouting for the Boston Celtics and the Phoenix Suns. Bertans is shooting 100 percent from the free throw line and over 40 percent from beyond the arc this season. His range is probably the deepest in Europe since Mirza Teletovic left for the NBA.
He’s ranked 11th in the Euroleague in three-pointers made and seventh among the Top 10 ACB scorers with 14 points per game, just 2.3 points shy of No. 1.
Despite standing 6-foot-10, Bertans isn’t considered an elite rebounder, grabbing a total of 3.5 boards per game this season. His feet-movement is slow and figure is slim, though he’s added a few pounds of muscle. Bertans isn’t a brilliant athlete, but has some bounce and could defend the small forward position. He’s by no means an NBA stretch four-man. Bertans also has a history of knee injuries.
He’s a player who can spread the floor, and could end being a contributor for San Antonio down the road.

^The only thing that article did for me was frustrate me that the Spurs didn't draft Jokic.
After yesterdays blowout his coach Marco Crespi was fired. The team was playing pretty crappy D in most games but it's just a really unbalanced roster which lacks any decent defensive players (I mean Sasha Vujacic is starting..). Accroding to this report (http://www.sportando.com/en/europe/spain/127534/baskonia-close-to-a-three-year-agreement-with-davis-bertans.html) back then the Spurs "asked to put him with Marco Crespi for his development", so they can't be too happy about this developement.

Crvena Zvezda (Nemanja Dangubic)

Boban Marjanovic (C, 2.21m, strong rebounder and good touch around the rim)
Alba Berlin
FC Barcelona (Deshaun Thomas)
20:00 CET
Pretty much the opposite of the first game, this will probably be a grindfest with both teams playing tough D.
Mario Hezonja (SG, very athletic even for NBA standards, projected Top 10 pick)
Laboral Kutxa Vitoria (Davis Bertans)

21:00 CET
The big story here is Thomas Heurtel leaving Vitoria and immediately facing his old team again.

Laboral lost 67-72
http://www.euroleague.net/main/results/showgame?clubcode=BAS&gamecode=128&seasoncode=E2014#!boxscore
There were some very strange coaching decisions in this game. For some reason the coach thought it would be smart to take Bertans and Begic off the floor in crunch time even though they were responsible for creating a big part of the offense. Predictably the offense couldn't get any decent looks down the stretch.
At the end of the game Bertans airballed a heavily contested 3 from well behind the line that would have tied the game. I have no idea if that was the intended shot but he did hit one of those earlier in the game.

Really poor play design. There was a screen set off the ball but it was obvious that the opponents would switch everything in that situation. He could have passed up that shot with so much time remaining in the game but there was no movement from the other players.

Team is 0-2 in the Top 16
Latvia's Davis Bertans bounces back
His career was on the up.
But in June of 2013, while playing for Partizan Belgrade, Bertans tore his right ACL and had to hit the sidelines for nine months.
He is playing again now, this time for Spanish club Laboral Kutxa and is showing the same confidence and talent, especially his long-range shooting, that helped put the 2.08m forward on the map.
Averaging more than 11 points per game and shooting well from behind the arc (22 of 63, 34.9 percent), Bertans helped Laboral overcome a difficult stretch to reach the Top 16 of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague.
Making it through tough times is something that Bertans is accustomed to.
"I've had a lot of problems since (EuroBasket 2011)," he said to FIBA.com, "but I just kept the goal in my mind, kept pushing myself and I think that has been the biggest motivation.
"I had a great rehab and came back stronger and better.
"The rehab was probably the hardest part but in the end, I had expected something harder. In the end, it came very easy, those nine months."
Playing in Spain has so far been good for Bertans.
When he was going through his rehab, Bertans was driven by the desire to show he can play with the best players in the best league, the NBA.
That is still at the front of his thoughts.
"I have a three-year contract but there is an NBA buyout after every season," he said.
"San Antonio own my NBA rights.
"I got lucky that my rights got traded to San Antonio.
"That’s my goal."

Rough game. It feels like he's forcing the three point shots lately. Can't blame him too much because the team lost their best playmaker.
He did manage to get himself fouled on two made three pointers and also had the following nice sequence:
http://giant.gfycat.com/FragrantTerribleInexpectatumpleco.gif
It really shows how much the opposing team respects his shooting ability.
Strong performance today in a win over Barcelona with 19 points including 5/5 from 3 in just 17 minutes. Deshaun Thomas also scored 11 points on just 3 shots and 5 FTs.

I watched the Barca game, the Olympiakos game, the Novgorod game, and nearly the first half against Crvena
Two of those games were pretty damn rough.
Compared to the full games I watched from the end of last year, I still like him as an NBA player and think he should have been here instead of Daye. He could have had some minutes this year, signed without buyout issues, and locked up for the future freeing up exceptions.
Still, his game has some flaws. Laboral's offense bugs me, lots of possessions ending up in iso pull ups from 3 for the guards as the shot clock expires or big man post-ups. Most of Bertans' meaningful touches are coming from running off screens. It's fine and all, but he drifts a lot on those shots compared to his spot up and I think that hurts his shot too much. I think he'd be a lot better with the Spurs because here he'd have playmakers getting him open looks, that doesn't happen that often with Laboral.
Unfortunately his body is still a problem that probably can't be helped. He's just too tall. His legs are too long, he would be better off a couple of inches shorter and just being Korver sized. His upper body doesn't help with impossibly narrow shoulders, so it's not like he's going to become a monster. He's Bruce Banner and Matt Bonner is the Incredible Hulk. He can't guard the perimeter well with those stork legs tripping him up and he's no gladiator guarding the post. The few times I've seen him switched off on a guard at the three point line it turns into a murder party with how badly he gets beaten. He's nearly Marco-esque in his ability to get hung up on screens also. He still looks like he's engaged, and hustles, and seems like he could turn into a smart team defender, but his defense is his weakest part of his game now. He might have a problem between guarding any position at the NBA level well, but considering he'd most likely just be a reserve playing against reserves, could be manageable.
Everything else still looks good. Good high release, smart passes on those occasions when he's passing. Not afraid to shoot. A little chucker-ish, but if you can make it, take it, right?
I still have some misguided, unfounded hope that the Spurs can buy him out before the NBA season is over with the remains of the MLE this year just to have him for next year and have exceptions free.

Pretty interesting Euorleague game coming up today against Unicaja Malaga, the team with the best record in the ACB right now.
The matchup between Bertans and Kuzminskas should be quite a battle. Kuzminskas is one of the few wing players who can match Bertans' size and length and he is a bit more athletic too (6'9"/10" with a 6'11" wingspan).

He had a very rough game yesterday. Picked up a couple of fouls in the first quarter and never found his shot afterwards, most of his threes were quite forced. But he also had this highlight play which was started by him getting a steal on the other end:

^ not that bonner is a great post defender, but he can at least hang with some PF not named randolph. Bertans seems nowhere near that if they plan to use him as a strech 4.

Looked like a hell of a game from the highlights. Is it me or is our boy putting up lower 3% numbers in recent outings? Anyway, eager to seem him here next year.
It was a pretty insane first quarter for him. He put up 7 threes (including an end of quarter heave) and made 3 of them.
By the way, his percentages in the ACB are now 56/42/90 for the season. His Euroleague numbers are much worse though (32/36/78).
That's in 24 ACB games and 11 Euroleague games so far.

Ughh.. he just got carried off the floor after banging knees with another player. Hopefully nothing too serious.

i'd shop his draft rights to phoenix. they've got the rights to bogdan squared, and if anybody is better than the spurs at milking a corpse of a career... it's the suns training staff.

Trade them all to the Eagles. Chip Kelly loves torn ACLs
Poor guy, I was eager to see him over here. How long does the rehab usually take with these injuries? Long shot for next year's training camp in 6 months?

He took about 9 months (June 2013 - March 2014) to get back when he had the same injury two years ago. But there was also this quote which shows that the Spurs were cautious as usual when it comes to dealing with injuries:
"Despite the fact that rehabilitation is very good, the request to delay came from the San Antonio Spurs. Instead of six months, he will be missing four to eight months more. Probably in March he will be ready and able to play," said Partizan coach Dusko Vujošević.

If the Spurs really care about him, they should bring him over even though he's injured. Give him a three- or four-year min deal and let him heal next season. He's just going to wither away overseas.
Still think they'll leave him over there if he's willing, though.

I have read that you have to wait a couple of weeks to perform the surgery in order to allow swelling and bleeding to decrease.

Plus the physio is needed to rebuild muscles preemptively, in order to avoid a complete loss of muscle mass post surgery.

any news about the surgery? all is gone well? time for recovery?
The surgery was succesful, no specific time table mentioned:
http://www.baskonia.com/davis-bertans-operado-con-exito-de-su-rodilla-derecha/
The baskonista player underwent surgery last Friday and started postoperative treatment.
The player Laboral Kutxa Baskonia Davis Bertans and recovers from knee surgery on Friday in San Antonio, Texas, by Dr. David Schmidt. Surgery to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered during the course of the match played at Emporio Armani Milan, he passed with great success and under the expected parameters.
The player is recovering from surgery and has begun a regular post-operative treatment for this type of interventions.
I still say bring this guy over if he's within the projected recovery time. Let him rehab here and play with Toros.
Barcelona rumored to sign Bertans for next season :

I wonder if that means that Deshaun Thomas is leaving them. If he stays that wing rotation is way too crowded for both guys to get decent minutes.

Looks like he's not going to Barcelona either now. Either his injury is too much risk for a buyout or perhaps Spurs have an inkling that they might need to bring him over this coming season...
