Anybody picked it up yet? If so, thoughts?

I was late to the party and finally played the original a couple weeks ago (bought it offa' Steam for 10 bucks). I now know what all the hype was about, and'm pretty psyched about the sequel.

I'm actually debating that, too. I've only played on PC and I'm wondering how hard it'd be to re-learn rapidly opening those portals in mid-air with a joystick. It seems like it's a lot easier with the mouse.

Yeah, that was my main concern as well.

The developers themselves have said specifically, on several occasions, that the PS3 version is the most complete version available. Seems a pretty easy decision.

From what I've read, IF it is a console port, its been ported perfectly to the PC.

I'll find out soon enough, letting my brother play it on the PS3 while I download it from Steam.

Also, there is an easter-egg concerning J.J. Abrams new movie "Super 8"

Hidden away in the Extras section of the Portal 2 main menu, there’s a teaser for Super 8. It’s not a typical movie teaser, though, it’s a short level created entirely in the Source engine. It’s only a couple of minutes long. If you don’t have Portal 2 go here to check out the video: http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/04/19/portal-2-has-hidden-interactive-super-8-teaser-level/

I got stuck early on in Portal and just went back to playing HL2 (Orange Box owner). Some incredibly far expanse I couldn't get across.

You have behooved yourself immensely, IMO. Portal was/is awesome. The Portal mechanic was revolutionary, I could only imagine the possibilities in an open-world setting (not that Portal 2 is, but just thinking out loud).

Won't have time to play the sequel until after this semester is over, but I'm definitely looking forward to it. The first Portal is one of few games that I can think of that is incredibly innovative without sacrificing fun/playability.

Played a few level so far. The "Stephen Merchant" post in this thread didn't make any sense to me until now. Big fan of the Ricky Gervais Show, so, of course, I was very pleasantly surprised.

I do miss the old Portal voice, though.

I agree it's hella fun, but I'm the type of gamer who *hates* referring to walkthrus until after the first playthrough, and Portal was just pissing me off. I picked it up again yesterday but got distracted, I'll play it again today.

Never played the first one but the commercial I saw peaked my interest a lil'. Is this one of those mindless, open ended, puzzle type games?

Not at all. It's more like a first person shooter, but instead of shooting bad guys you're navigating a series of puzzle rooms.

Portal is kind of puzzles + reflexes; you're basically escaping a prison. For example, you might have a puzzle where your character is falling a hundred feet so you better get your portal shot in time to keep from hitting the ground and dying. And you need to shoot your portal in the right place too, or maybe you get killed after going through it. I haven't played 2 yet, but it's a really creative idea done by maybe the best developer out there; Valve just doesn't release crap.

Also, I didn't rely upon them too heavily for the first Portal, but it's kind of amusing how much more willing I am to consult walkthroughs now that I hardly have any time to game. Since going back to school full time, and especially now that it's grad school, I'm lucky if I can carve out a couple hours in a week to play and I'll be damned if I don't make it through at least one level in that time.

I've got to be close to the end, I've been tempted at least 5 times to look up a tutorial on certain levels but have thankfully refrained. I would quit in frustration and come back a little later and figure it out.

The whole point of Portal is to test your mind.... Sure, its a fun game with funny narative, but dont cheapen it by looking up spoilers....

Thats like buying an old school puzzle and having someone else put it together for you... Its lame if you do that.

Not with the type of game it is. I enjoy crossword puzzles and think they are fun.. but I don't erase the answers after I finish and do the puzzle all over again because it was fun when I didn't know the answers and was figuring them out.

Portal + crumbling ruins + 2 new characters trying way too hard to be funny + bouncing = Portal 2

huge disappointment IMO

Portal 2 is, by far, the front runner for game of the year at this point...

extremely well done, great voice acting and flat out fun and satisfying when you figure out a puzzle.

Almost as perfect a game as you can expect from these days of releasing a product and hoping for a patch.

I'm betting Skyrim or Rage will beat it though for the GoTY award.... simply because they are coming out closer to the end of the year (at least Skyrim is), and by then the hoopla (which is definately justified BTW) will have died down a bit for Portal 2.

I bought it yesterday. It is a load of fun. The puzzles are all very fun and require you to use your brain more. Well worth the 4 years it took to make this.

For those wondering if you can play Portal 2 without having played the first one... That's what I'm doing. There is some narrative in the game related (I assume) to the first one, but you can figure out the background as you go.

Looking forward to playing the first one after I finish it.

I finally got this game and I'm digging the hell out of it. I tried finding the orange box but it's kinda hard finding a place that has it. How many hours would anyone say this game takes or how many levels there are? I think I'm somewhere in the 20's level.

I finished the single player campaign in roughly 22 hours of gameplay (almost non-stop, mind you), it took about 8 hours to finish the multiplay maps with a decent partner.

Im positive if I where to play the single player campaign again, I coul finish it in EASLY half the time.

As I dont want to spoil it for you, can you give us an indication of waht part of the game your on? just going off sketchy memory, Im hoping you passed Wheatley taking over from GLaDOS by now.

Either way, when you reach that point, you are about 1/4 of the way through the game if I remember right. The single player campaign is quite lengthy and thats a good thing.
