How much time and money was wasted on that?
I gets it beats doing anything that would really matter.

Well I suppose they could try to reform some of the entitlement programs and have the Democrats oppose that, for example.
But go ahead and live in the fantasyland in which those are not real problems.
Frankly I'd rather them engage in circle jerks about the pledge and flagburning and gay marriage and whatever instead of creating yet more fiscal black holes.

Just put Haliburton in charge of Social Security.
Problem solved.

Yours was an answer?
They control the house, so why not take on a real issue?

Moreso than yours, that's for certain.

Bullshit. your "answer" was that you approve.
They control the house, so why not take on a real issue?

The point is that those who want to chastise them for pushing such symbolic measures instead of working on 'the issues' would complain like mad about them working on said issues. Hence my response.

Even if Democrats were for the most part in agreement w/ the majority on major issues like social security, there is no doubt in my mind that the republicans in congress would be bring stuff like this to the floor lass than two months before the election.
Wait 'till Bush talks about the democrats trying to block the legislation one sentence removed from discussing the war on terrorism.
