Yes,we lost because we played like garbage.

But the refs helped Memphis a lot. They gave them a 8-0 FT run to take the lead after the halftime. And we were in bonus with 9 minutes to end the quarter.

After that we played a lot of worse and we never came back in the game. It's not the same when you are down by 10 in the 3rd quarter, you are down 2-1 in the series and you can't touch your opponent in defense.

The refs sure didnt cost the game but they definitely helped memphis to a sizeable lead in that third quarter it virtually softened our D with the fear of giving up free points.

Are you arguing that the Spurs didn't actually commit fouls or that the officials were making things up and choosing to call them?

It sure looked to me like the calls that they made in that stretch were correct.

Pauleta14

The calls were right, the problem is that Memphis did the same kind of fouls without being called...
At least 2 calls at the start of the 3rd were just slight touches...

It helped memphis build their momentum, maybe they "deserved" it because they were more agressive, but the calls were not homogeneous.

It seemed like the refs were allowing the Grizz to get away with being more physical, but it was the way the Spurs responded to that physicality that was most disappointing.

No, the reffing was extraordinarily one sided, especially to start the third. What's pathetic is that the Spurs came out flat and failed to recover from it. You can't really blame the officiating when you get blown the fuck out in the second half.

Memphis is a bigger and more physical team. When you can't compete with someone physically you often have to resort to fouling them.

The refs are really letting both sides go at it out on the perimeter, there has been tons of reaching and bumping fouls out on the top of the key that they have let go all series long (calls that manu and tony would benefit getting) and the refs have called the paint very ticky tack all series long. You can't breath on anyone in the paint but out on the perimeter guys are practically mugging eachother. Obviously MEM will benefit from this since they live in the paint compared to us.

Oh yeah your right, cause a ref was never influenced by a home crowd or made a mistake. I guess next thing you'll say is the timekeeper in game one and in 04 started the clock on time. Go fuck yourself!

Their fans were too loud. Unfair advantage. That's why we lost.

Also, the towels sucked. Tony was unable to dry off his hands adequately and therefore fumbled the ball all over the place.

Did the refs cause Tony parker to handle the ball like a hot potato or cause Matt Bonner to be a defensive turnstile? An influenced ref or refereeing mistake didn't cause the Spurs to lose by 18. The Spurs didn't need any help playing like corpses early in the 2nd half. And what the fuck does the timekeeper snafu in game 01 have to do with SA taking it the keister in the 2nd half of game 4? And 04? Are you reaching back 7 years to pass blame for the Spurs atrocious 2nd half performance last night? About the only thing the Spurs did right last night was they didn't blame the officiating for their poor play.

So maybe you should go fuck yourself, instead. Or better yet, wash the sand out of your man-gina and stop crying like a little fucking bitch.

Refs aren't the problem.

There are turnovers on the break that used to be two points and allow the Spurs to get back on defense. The Spurs perimiter shooting has been garbage. Once again, made shots allow a team to set on defense. Look at how hard of a time the Spurs are having against the Grizzlies when they are making everything.

thats what ive been trying to say....yes spurs started playing like crap in the 3rd quarter but it all started with those bs fouls the refs started to call against the spurs in the beginning of the 3rd quarter....after that everything started to go downhill and spurs never recoverd.....than you have the spurs getting bumped around and not getting those calls hurts the spurs as well....the refs also have something to do with the loss no doubt.....:ihit

The refs can only do much. Miami benefited in 2006 because Dallas stopped attacking and Wade was making suicide drives.

In short, they did something to catch the refs' attention.

What the fuck were you people watching most were tick-tack fouls. But more than that they were allowed to be physical but we were not it was called one-sided and took the air right out of them.

The Spurs were called for 6 fouls in the first 3:21 of the 3rd quarter; all but one were shooting fouls (the Grizzlies were being extremely aggressive in taking the ball to the rim) and they converted 8 of 10.

In the remaining 8:39 of the 3rd quarter, the Spurs were called for exactly 1 team fouls -- a loose ball foul on Duncan at 1:25 that sent Battier to the line.

Despite being in the penalty for the last 9:19 of the quarter, the Grizzlies managed only 4 FTA in that time.

Meanwhile, in that first 3-4 minutes of the 3rd Quarter, the Spurs shot 0-4 and turned it over 2 more times.

After the 6th foul, the Spurs cut the lead to 5 between 7:23 and 4:34 by making 4-5 shots and turning the ball over only once -- they also made 2-2 FTA. Whatever the referees had called before that stretch, the Spurs were able to make plays and run offense efficiently.

But after that stretch -- over the last 4:34 of the 3rd quarter -- the Spurs went 2-6 from the field and turned the ball over 4 more times. During that fateful stretch, the Grizzlies, by comparison, went 5-8 (Mayo also missed a shot at the buzzer) and turned it over only 1 time.

To me, it's silly to bitch about the officiating in Game 4 because no matter what you think of the officiating, the Spurs were in position to take the game when they actually managed to value the basketball and exercise some patience on the offensive end. It was their failure to execute over the last 4:34 of that quarter -- not the officiating -- that killed the Spurs.

Once they've built a double-digit lead and can't even play D cause even a hard stare is considered a foul while the grizzlys are allowed to manhandle our players yes the game gets out of control. They get super confident the crowd goes nuts. And we giveup cause they won't let us play so go suck your moms dick!

But, obviously (say some) the officials did make the Spurs allow the Grizzlies to shoot 10-16 inside the arc in the 3rd Quarter of Game 4 (with 1 turnover) and also made the Spurs shoot 6-15 with 7 turnovers in that same quarter.

The poor Spurs weren't even allowed to compete or try to defend -- at all!

Obviously. Looking lost on both ends and defeated before the quarter hit the half-way mark was entirely the refs' fault, friend.

I think the reffing was bad in that Memphis fouls a lot more than what they called, so yeah that matters. On the same token Memphis played lights out and deserves a lot of credit. And if you are getting away with it that's not your fault, might as well keep doing it.
