Rapinoe = Ginobili tbh

Spurologist
07-13-2011, 10:47 PM
IF Rapinoe is to start, that means Pia would most likely drop Lloyd instead of Cheney. Lloyd is the most creative U.S player even though she can be turnover happy at times. Plus Rodriguez owns Japan this year...scoring every time they've played. This might be enough to get her going knowing she's had previous success against them. Pia seems to be a non drama type of coach and will most likely stick to her same rotation of players. U.S can hold its own for at least a half in case tactical changes need to be made.

Am i the only one that's incredibly worried about Japan, due to what they did to Sweden? That plus their defense and the way they hold the ball. The USA's backline and midfield can't afford to fuck up on Sunday. This is a different Japan team than the US has beaten 3 times this year and 19 other times. They're dangerous.

MannyIsGod
07-14-2011, 02:06 AM
Its the same team. US needs to rest between now and Sunday. Thats really what held them back today - they were tired as shit. If they can keep their legs then they'll be fine. How is Japan going to defend Wambach? (lol over rated)

lol over rated

beating the team, that beat the USA.

beating germany (I dont need to tell you about the WC streak of the host).

playing the best soccer so far in the playoffs.

a type of soccer, that prevailed so much over the last decade when you look at teams like Barca or the spanish NT (mens soccer, but I think posession soccer translates great into womens soccer if not even better).

the US team plays well and Japan will have problems with the headers...Uh wait, didnt we think that against Germany und Sweden too? problem is: with their type of play, its not like they give away a million of set pieces...they pressure early und it will be hard to get easy crosses.

Against Japan...
Sweden hat 2 corners.
Germany got 7, with most of them beeing in the hurry up offense late.
NZL had 3 corners, MEX 1 corner and ENG 3 corners.

So its not like the US team will have chance after chance after chance.

Imho, the USA didnt look good against France either. They took it in the last few minutes, but if France wins that game 2:1, nobody would have called it an undeserving win.

I'm from germany and I tell you what: The media here is allready crowning Japan as champion(and not coz they beat us, but they look so good!). The USA are basically underdog.

Not sure, if I agree with that, as the USA will have a big experience advantage, but right now, if you would put a gun to my head, I'd take Japan too.

After all soccer is depending a lot on luck. How about the cross to Womback against Brasil beeing eine inch to far? How about Japan blowing that one chance they got against Germany. How about Sweden going up 2:0 in yesterdays game? How about US or Japan winning their group, than facing totally different opponents?
Wouldn't be surprised with either outcome here as well. If Japan goes up 1:0, the US-team has a big problem, coz they wont touch the ball a lot after that. Thats just what teams like Spain/Barca do. They hold posession and suddenly the game is over. If the USA team goes up 1:0, I can see Japan strinking back easier. I think, thats what makes me take Japan.

Not dirty at all? Thats just laughable. Hard to take anything you say seriously after that. The Americans had some jersey grabs here and there, but they even got some bullshit yellows. One that comes immediately to mind was the one to Rapinoe when she had a sliding tackle - got the ball - then got a yellow. Totally clean play - yet got carded. Marta had a nice horse collar tackle that was worse than anything the US did to any of the Brazilians.

I don't think you and I watched the same game. There's a reason the crowd - which was not mostly Americans - turned on Marta and the Brazilians very harshly.

There were many more Americans and American supporters in the crowd than Brazilians. The crowd was pro American from the start and if you couldn't see that you are stupid.

Marta was yellow carded arguing a clear American flop.

Strawman. This is an American biased board does not mean everyone in here is American. American's are not outnumbered in this forum.

There were many more Americans and American supporters at that game . And the crowd noise being for the US is being overblown by you anyways. Very few Brazilians there. So a definite pro American biased crowd.

Someone who knows soccer: I thought that kind of a red card resulted in a penalty kick because she had a clear path to the goal. Why was it just a free kick?

Color of card has no bearing on whether or not there is a penalty kick. The large box you see in front of the goal is called the penalty box. All fouls inside that box - whether or not there's a card - mean there is a penalty kick.

That foul was just outside the box hence the FK and not the PK.

Back line has made two real mistakes in the back. One resulted in goal. CK wasn't a mistake but just an amazing goal. The defense definitely did not get dominated by France at all, DPG. The midfield did, but the blackline has owned every game.

No one ever plays mistake free.

Its the same team. US needs to rest between now and Sunday. Thats really what held them back today - they were tired as shit. If they can keep their legs then they'll be fine. How is Japan going to defend Wambach? (lol over rated)

How could you watch that game and not think they could lose? Japan showed heart all the way.

Quit being obtuse. You clearly didn't think Japan had a chance going into the game. You were as smug about USA as anyone. Of course during the game as you watched Japan fight, you thought there might be a chance, but when USA goes up on you twice, you really think it's over.

The comment was clearly referenced about an overall mindset going into the game and even watching USA miss chances, most thought USA would win.

I know you want to keep propping them up for everything, but they choked and Japan played well enough for the win. They aren't mutually exclusive. It doesn't mean they suck, it just means they had a let down.

Like I said - you guys are equating the US making mistakes to choking. On one hand you chastise the US for not making the most of their chances (having 2 go off posts and one off a crossbar is more bad luck than anything else) but then when talking about Japan's plays you refuse to give them credit either and instead focus on the fact that the US made mistakes.

Both teams made mistakes. Don't know many games where both teams - or even one for that matter - plays perfectly. The fact is Japan could easily have folded after both of those goals and they didn't. That in itself says a lot.

I agree. It does say a lot about Japan. Just because USA choked (IMO) doesn't mean Japan didn't play well or that USA sucks. Like I said, no one plays perfect, but there are mistakes you can make and ones you can't. When it boils down, you shouldn't lose a game where you are the superior team and go up twice. That's the bottom line. USA choked and Japan played well enough to take advantage. Either way it's semantics because the end result doesn't change.

Eh - you can call it all you want. Pretty sure I started the WC thread in the club in 2006. DPG's been here for a couple of years at best.

Well to set the record straight for later this year, I started the 07 Rugby World Cup thread so I'm officially the rugby expert for the 11 RWC thread.

I don't need to make my case :lol. You want a picture of my high school state ring and my college nationals ring?

How could I make up a detailed story of my life line about soccer so quickly?

TBH you're right about not needing to make a case because there's nothing online that would prove it.

Sweet! Never said I was the resident expert but troll away!

I guess it depends on the definition of choking. No, I don't believe that them missing the PKs was choking.

Alright, we're on different perspectives then. I see that miss, weak kick and ball slipping out of Hope's hand as choking. Still, I'm not a big soccer fan so my opinion on choking doesn't weigh much. Agree to disagree, I suppose.

Gonna go with no on that one. I'm not usually one of the ST dudes that talks all that mess but her face is busted man.

What? Why on Earth, when others have said they know I play soccer after you not believing me, would you not believe me :lol?

By your above logic, I could just point out anything, let's say for example that you didn't finish high school, and I can just say there's nothing online that would prove you did.

I don't care if you talk about NM, you're just making that up!

DEEP told me he played soccer in HS and college over a year ago, if he's making it up (which I don't think he is), it's not something he made up just for sake of arguing in this thread.
