interesting matchup tonight...
Lewis vs. Fister
Lewis has had MAJOR struggles this year against Detroit, but has established himself as one of the finest post-season pitchers in the league.
Fister had a great season, especially after being traded to Detroit and posting an ERA below 1.00 in Detroit. However, he has had some struggles this postseason.
Should be another great game. :toast

Texas bullpen > Tigers bullpen barely
Texas bats >>>x10000 Tigers bats
This series is extremely frustrating to watch as a Tigers fan. The heart of the lineup has been complete shit this postseason.
Cabrera had one good game in the ALDS, Martinez had one big hit (also in the ALDS), Avila shouldnt even be playing, Ordonez is out, Young is injured, Peralta came back to earth and AutoOut Jackson can lick my sweaty balls if I ever see him.
Hell of a time to slump, guys. Right when the postseason starts, you fucking choke-artists.
If Cabrera, Martinez, Jackson and Avila hit 0.200 in the postseason, this wouldnt even be close.
Pathetic.
Congrats Texas, you are the better team, with the better, more clutch bats and deserve to to play in the World Series which you will most likely win, IMO.

anytime any pressure is put on an asian pitcher, they choke like no other. remember that asian guy on the diamondbacks who almost choked away the series against the yankees? remember chan ho park after signing a big contract with big expectations? remember hideo nomo after his rookie year when he had expectations? remember every minute of hideki irabu's career?
of course in baltimore he'd perform well, then choke like a typical asian faggot once he was on a playoff team with title expectations.

Michael Young really needs to pull his head out of his ass.
The Rangers have got to win today. A loss today puts a LOT of pressure on them, as then they have to face Verlander in G5, pitch Holland ing G6, and face Fister in G7.
I still have faith they can and will win the series, but they don't need to put more pressure on themselves than they already have by losing last night.

interesting matchup again tonight, particularly for Matt Harrison.
Harrison has done poor in his career against Detroit, a 1-4 record with a 6.89 ERA. But this year, he is an exponentially better pitcher on the road, and especially during the daytime.
On the other hand, Porcello did well in his start against the Rangers this year, but has not been a very good pitcher overall. He is a very poor pitcher at home with a 5.64 ERA. Porcello has done very poorly against lefties as well, so the Rangers definitely need to bring in Murphy. Also after doing well last night, I think Torrealba should get another start, and possibly DH Beltre if his knee is bugging him a lot.
stretch
10-12-2011, 11:54 AM
well, just heard that Beltre feels good enough to go at 3rd, so he will be out there, Young at 1st, and Torrealba will be DHing. Murph at LF.

exactly why you had no reason to start whining already, series isnt over yet, momentum is right back in detroits hands.
I have an uncanny ability to bitch and moan about a player or players and remarkably, coincidentally they decide to show up the next game.
Mostly Red Wings related, but its almost uncanny.
While I still doubt the Tigers bats, increasingly getting worse as injuries mount, Cabrera is an easy one to "call out" seeing as he is the best right-hander in the game.
But my "AutoOut Jackson" comment, followed by a 3-5 performance against (of all things) a RHP seems to have kept the trend. This, IMO, was the difference in this game. The leadoff man was actually a threat to get on base (holy shit...).
Regardless, IMO, Tigers have no chance to win the series unless they take all 3 games at home. Going to back to Arlington with Texas up 3-2 is futile.

Moot point. Verlander is pitching tomorrow and is due for a strong game. Unless CJ Wilson plays way way way over his head, Rangers don't have a chance in hell tomorrow. Then this series goes back to Texas but the Tigers will have momentum and win in 7. I am not sold on the Rangers. Bullshit doesn't last forever.

The Tigers have to win this series. The Rangers starting pitching isn't all that great. You don't win in the playoffs with average starting pitching all the way around. I don't care how stacked your bullpen is, you need the complete package.

I think the Rangers starters have just enough to get by because of their powerful bullpen and offense. CJ is due for a great game but he does have me nervous. It'd be nice to win in front of home fans but they need to close this shit out now!

Moot point. Verlander is pitching tomorrow and is due for a strong game. Unless CJ Wilson plays way way way over his head, Rangers don't have a chance in hell tomorrow. With the state of Detroit's offense and their health, Texas has enough to get by in this series.
Detroit's SP has been good but unless their offense makes an appearance, it's over.
Not so sure if the Rangers hot pitching will carry over into the World Series though. Let's not act like this series couldn't be 2-2..or even 3-1 Detroit right now
Could be...but it's not. It's the little things that win..the clutch, timely hits, and bullpen pitching that has won these games..and the same thing wins games in the World Series. When the two best teams in the league are playing in the WS, they're usually pretty close in talent, leaving it to those little things to win..and the Rangers are doing it.

Definitely felt like we were going to be on the short end of the stick in this game, and that would have sucked, being tied, with Verlander starting Game 5. But we stuck it out, and with Cruz's arm and Napoli and Cruz's bat, we finally got Valverde's number...loved to see us get the win with him on the mound.

However, as good as Napoli, Genrty, and Beltre have been so far, Young, Cruz, and Hambone all need to step up. But I guess that's the beauty of the Rangers... there really isn't a truly weak link in the lineup. Cruz has probably been the weakest link; but we all know how deadly he can be. It would be really nice to wake him up, as it seems he frequently comes up to bat with guys on base, and just strikes the fuck out.

Tigers are too injured to hang with the obviously better team in the Rangers.
No Boesch, no Avila, no Martinez, no Ordonez off the bench, no Young.
Just not enough in the lineup to hang with the very deep offense that Texas features.
I knew this series was over after the Tigers failed to get the split in Texas. That hasnt changed. Congrats Texas.

Yeah he was shakier in the regular season this year than he was last year but he was still good and he's been great so far in the playoffs. It seems like a stupid gamble to make him a starter and replace him with at closer with someone who's untested in October.

I haven't heard anything from the organization on this, just fan speculation. But I think it's a dumb idea. He's a lockdown closer, and has publicly stated he would prefer to stay in that role. Keep him there. A trio of Ogando, Adams, and him to close out games is pretty damn scary.

Yeah in addition to his replacement not being a sure thing at all as the new closer he wouldn't be a sure thing as a starter. I don't know much about baseball but closer to starting pitcher actually seems like an extremely hard transition to make from a mental and physical standpoint.

And considering his array of pitches is about as versatile as a Mumford and Sons album, the closing role mos def suits him best. Just overpower hitters w/ his fastball, and be done with it.
As an aside, I was fucking THRILLED to see Young and Napoli finally get goin in this series. Hopefully, that double that Young hit wakes him up a bit. A tall order to keep it goin against Verlander, but we'll see. Young's a hitter. Always has been. The fact that he wasn't even LOOKING to bunt to advance the runner in front of him was simply more evidence of that.

I agree that they suck on his cock too much, ESPN too. And he hasn't been lights out at all in the post season. But he just threw 99 and 100 after 130+ pitches. And he was trying to save the bullpen. He gave up 2 runs in 7 innings. Have to consider those facts.
Most of the cocksucking has to do with his exceptional regular season and the fact that he has the best pure stuff of any pitcher in the majors. But the cocksucking does have to stop. He's been less than stellar these playoffs. In fact, while he goes deeper into games, he's arguably been the Tigers third best starter behind Scherzer and Fister.
