I don't understand how anyone on this forum could be saying he looks done physically after watching just a few games.
The game the mook crew went to against LA Clippers, he was like a little gnat on crack cocaine, jumping around on defense, helping, recovering, and on offense he looked great turning corners and exploding when he needed

Scro, I was one of THE most vocal about liking the TJ signing, but you can't start scoreboarding on this stuff because he's playing well here. All the things said about him were pretty much true and it's a blessing that 1) he appears to have some athleticism left & 2) a huge turnaround in his mindset

No. I'm not. Everyone had a lockout season. Everyone had abbreviated training camp. He looks like he's lost a significant step physically and I'm not overselling it at all.
I'm not even really commenting on his impact as much as I am that point and those are two very different things. Not only does the eye-ball test tell you this, but a drop from 50% FG to 40% is drastic along with an ability to finish at the rim which has seen a large drop off from him to start the year.
I've said numerous times it's too early to tell probably, but it's enough where I am concerned. You don't have to agree.

Nuggets did not look that impressive against the Hornets last night, but still won pretty easily. Games between the Spurs and Nuggets are always fun. As this is a home game and the Spurs should have the fresher legs, I think they will win it. With Manu I would have no doubts, without him I am not so sure though.

Well, I've provided my reasoning, what is yours? I would say many agree with me on how he looks. The reasons as to "why" or if it's too early to tell are up in the air, but not many disagree that he looks to have lost a step to date this season.

Again, you comment on something I said, but miss the point. It's not about his impact or the fact he is playing "bad". It's only about how he looks physically. You can lose a step and still play ok. He's not playing well, but that's not what I was saying. I think it's pretty clear that TJ Ford looks much faster and quicker than TP and that hasn't been the case over ummmmmmmmmmmm the past 5 years or so.
MannyIsGod
01-07-2012, 11:07 PM
Your reasoning is that he's lost a step. Unless you can somehow prove that I don't think that you and I are going to move past that. I've seen too much good out of TP this season to think that he's lost a step.
There's been a lot of bad too, and I don't deny that, but the presence of good in itself doesn't really help your "lost a step" theory.
MannyIsGod

That has more to do with TJ looking healthy now than Parker somehow losing a step.
I don't think its really possible for a player like Parker (or TJ) to play as well with a lost step because both require so much out of their speed and quickness. I think thats why ultimately TJ suffers when he's not healthy, for example.
Bill_Brasky
01-07-2012, 11:09 PM
TP has actually been pretty clutch, but the majority of his minutes have been pretty meh and I haven't seen him finish at the rim nearly as much as he has in previous years. We saw flashes of it tonight though.
That said, it could be that he's tired/needs to save his legs/letting other guys do more. Let's hope so.

There's been a lot of bad too, and I don't deny that, but the presence of good in itself doesn't really help your "lost a step" theory.
My reasoning is statistical evidence that points in that direction as it has with other players who have lost a step physically. If you don't want to buy into that because it's early, fine, I wouldn't disagree. But right now he looks to have lost a step, the early stats support that to a degree.
Again, you can lose a step and still play "good". I don't think ANYONE would classify how TP is playing this year as "good". That supports my theory along with the numbers that usually are a good indicator on whether or not someone has lost a step.

That was an awesome game! Very exciting and great play from both teams. But what's with this schedule? Seems like the Spurs are playing every day.

That has more to do with TJ looking healthy now than Parker somehow losing a step.
I don't think its really possible for a player like Parker (or TJ) to play as well with a lost step because both require so much out of their speed and quickness. I think thats why ultimately TJ suffers when he's not healthy, for example.
Parker isn't playing well. By all accounts he's not playing really anywhere close to how he was. That's not to say he's awful or he hasn't had "good" moments, but as a body of work to start this season, you would classify him as good?

Also, that wasn't a comment on what you said. Look at the post again.
It was a continuation of a comment you made towards my post to another poster who supported what I said.

I missed Hollinger's lost a step index but I digress. We'll revisit this a month or two from now.

I don't want to argue with you about this because we won't know until the season goes on. I love TP, I'm happy the Spurs won, but it's something to me that has stuck out so much and because he is so crucial to this team, it's alarming too me. That's all.

Well its pointless to argue because neither of us can actually prove it conclusively one way or another. We'll see in a couple of months. If TP's play hasn't improved your case will be much stronger.
If players around TP continue to play well it should make his job much easier right now. Opposing teams are likely coming in and keying on him since they don't have Manu to worry about now and Tim isn't the force he once was so that may be a factor as well. There are alot of variables involved of course but right now its encouraging that he's managing to play well in the fourth, if nothing else.

Well, I've provided my reasoning, what is yours? I would say many agree with me on how he looks. The reasons as to "why" or if it's too early to tell are up in the air, but not many disagree that he looks to have lost a step to date this season.
Yep,I expected Tony around 20 ppg or more but he's not even close and his Fg% are lowest than ever.
I still believe he will return to his level He is playing much better last 2 games.
But 14 ppg 40% FG... man he lost at least one step

I'm hoping this is just Pop ordered and TP is settling for jumpers to save the wear & tear and that hopefully he gets his legs back.

As an aside I find this logic funny. We shouldn't argue (which we all do) unless you have conclusive evidence? It's funny.

Since the close of the warriors game, TJ has really put in some good minutes. I thought he did very well towards the end tonight when pop put him in with Parker to help slow down Lawson.

Wow, this 3-0 without Manu is incredibly impressive. Great to see Green improving dramatically.
OKC will not be easy tommorow. I'll be very surprised if they pull it off.

I didn't say we shouldn't. I said its pointless. Most of the discussion on this board is pointless.
I guess its not pointless as in it holds some entertainment value but thats about it.

TP has actually been pretty clutch, but the majority of his minutes have been pretty meh and I haven't seen him finish at the rim nearly as much as he has in previous years. We saw flashes of it tonight though.
That said, it could be that he's tired/needs to save his legs/letting other guys do more. Let's hope so.
a majority of the game he plays like shit, gettin bailed out by the bench and comes in when the game is on the line to perform clutch, that to me is not clutch, we wouldnt be in a position playing from behind to rely on a last transition for clutch plays to make him look like a hero when he did nothing all game....

I think stats won't help with this one ... its like figuring out Bonner being a plus/minus wonder.
But I am with you here that TP has lost a step. Evidence can be seen in the games they played so far. TP has trouble getting by defenders (I especially remember the Clippers game), every time he turns the corner there is still a body in front of him and when he gets to the rim he seems to get stuffed more often than not. Indeed he had clutch plays at the end of games, but these were jumpers. I think it would have been better for Parker to rest a bit after the Euro Championships ...

Spurs will win 1 of the 2 games vs. Denver/OKC but they will also get destroyed in the other.
I say we barely win this one and get wiped out vs. OKC.
