Sure, the father is in the right here, but it's a bit over the top IMO. I would have simply taken the laptop and used it for my own purposes tbh.
Anyone wanna chime in on her daily routine? That, too, seems a bit excessive.
I make my own bed. I expect that when my children are old enough, that they will make their own as well.
I don't expect my kids to be up at 5am each day either (I sure as hell am not). They can have that once they join the military or become surgeons if they desire.
Seems to me that her routine was getting to her. Unfortunately she didn't resolve the issue in a constructive manner. But, this was to be expected given her age.

He had every right to do what he did, and good for him. Over the top? My ass. He sent a strict and strong message. It's not about money at this point or him being able to use the laptop for himself. He destroyed the mechanism from which she spewed her spoiled little garbage from and he ended it, no questions asked and no going back, and he put it up for the world to see that parents as a whole should make a frickin stand against these punk ass kids that think they run the household and the world and they don't even know 2 shits about the world. Most people opposed are just a Dr. Phil sympathizing feminized horrible example of what's wrong with this country.

Obviously for him (and you I gather) money is no object. I'd simply treat the situation differently. In both scenarios our daughters wouldn't have their laptops and wouldn't be on Facebook anymore. In my case, I'd have a functional laptop to either sell off or use. Win win.
Although, I guess having a tough guy reputation and thousands of admirers on You-Tube is more appealing to some. Win-win there I'd gather.

And the way her father resolves issues.
The older generation should avoid social networking sites like the plague. Trying to punish your kid using a youtube video and shooting a laptop because she posted drivel on her facebook page says you are unfit to be a parent in the first place. Some kids rebel, that's never changed. You don't get into the tantrum with them. You let them have their tantrum, then when they settle, you show them the list they were supposed to complete.
When she's old enough to be on her own, she can decide for herself, but if she handles her problems how he handles his, that's not going to go well.
You would think an IT guy would find other ways to keep her off the internet.

All of this has already happened, and none of it would have happened if he didnt upload a video to youtube.
Punishing his daughter is perfectly sensible and acceptable, acting as immature and stupid as his daughter while shooting her laptop when he coulda just given it to charity makes him look like a potentially abusive parent. When people comment "OMG he's gonna kill her!" on the video multiple times social services has no choice.
What is funny is how much the "These kids have it so easy! Babysitting is the only thing I see her doing. There are more regulatory agencies and labor laws now than there were whenever you were 14-15, companies don't hire 14-15 year olds anymore.
Your anecdote from however many years about how much work is available to 14-15 year olds is a baby boomer horseshit and has nothing to do with 14-15 year olds getting a job today. The workforce is completely different and companies don't hire minors like they used to.
My experience getting a job as a minor was more recent than your experience, and I applied for probably 30 jobs from age 15-16. There was either no call back or call backs saying the age minimum is 16 and try again when I turn 16. Then I got a job 2 months after I turned 16. The fact you had a job whenever you were 14 doesn't mean 14 or 15 year olds can easily get a job today.

I am 32. I was 14 in 1994. I am no baby boomer. I worked at the concession stand at my local pool. It wasn't easy and I had to shine above many others who applied for the job. That being said, you provided a great idea for a job. Babysitter. She could also do what I did when I was 7 and on. Mow lawns. I have heard that people also pay for dog walkers. So on and so on and so on.
Edit: Just to clarify, it was a summer job, at under min wage (since I wasn't 16, min wage didn't apply). Despite all of that, and spending money, I was able to save 500 that summer (and a little more the next summer when I worked there again).

If all they do is harmless bullshit like complain about chores on facebook then by all means they can do "whatever they want" if they get good grades and stay out of trouble.
Parents who harp on retarded stuff like their kids making the bed and cleaning the floor everyday are parents who end up with kids who act up the second their parents aren't around anymore just because they're so anxious to have freedom and rebel.
Nice job trying to minimize her comments on FB too there buddy, she didn't just complain about chores, she insulted her parents.
Holy shit, time to call Dr. fuckin Phil, a 15 year old teenager said something disrespectful about her parents! This kind of uniquely despicable behavior needs to be stopped or she's gonna be a complete failure!
You allow that behavior then you are allowing a stupid spoiled brat to develop for this world to deal with.
If you wanna prevent that behavior then don't buy her all the shit he says he bought her. She didn't fly out of the womb at birth expecting an ipod, smart phone and laptop, she was raised to expect it. Kids aren't born spoiled. My guess is she's been treated like daddy's little girl her entire life, then step mom says to the dad fix her behavior or this marriage isn't gonna work.
As a parent, fuck what social services says and the Dr. Phils of the world have to say. They aren't always right. social services act the way they do because of pussys and media pressure.
Yeah, fuck educated people who have done tons of research and studies about different parenting techniques! They don't know shit!

The "it wasn't easy" remark was in reference to your statement that you had such a hard time getting a job, thus the follow up sentence about the number of applicants, etc. I will readily admit that it was an easy job. It was fun. I got to look at girls in bikinis all day. However, I still had to be responsible with literally zero supervision, so yes the structure did teach me some lessons (or at least give me reps in lessons already learned as is evident by the rest of my antedote).

You answered with a completely uneducated answer based off an example from nearly 20 years ago. The fact you got a job at 14 in 1994 has no bearing whatsoever on today. As a matter of fact, it says something that the best example you can come up with is an example based off your job in 1994.
Babysitting isn't a job. A job is where you get an actual paycheck.

If you need confirmation from someone else then Yes, babysitting would be a fine way for her to make some cash.

So when her dad says she needs to get a job and that she's only applied for one job, do you honestly think he was referring to babysitting? I doubt it. I never said what kind of job I expected anyone to get. I said that jobs can be had. You provided one example, I provided a few others. I used my own antedote to show, not that jobs are easy to get, but to show that there is nothing wrong with working at 14-15 (or 7 as it were).

You seem really focused on trying to redefine words. A job is a job regardless of if you are paid in currency, a piece of paper with a signature, or gum.
Since you are so worried about context. The context in case you missed it is that the father was upset that she used something that they purchased to complain about them. If she had paid for it, then it may have been different. Are you really trying to tell me that you think that he would have a problem if she was making 200 a week from babysitting as opposed to 200 a week from working a drive through? If so, you obviously have some issues with situational awareness.
