My godness. If this guy is the best bigman we can bring from the d-league the level there is pitfull. We should get a vet for min as soon as possible.

Nah there've been some missed calls all over. Just look at the free throw differential: 3-4 from the Spurs to the 13-15 from the Blazers, and that's with them chucking threes like no tomorrow. I know it wouldn't make much, if any, difference, but it still boggles the mind.

A quote from "Sporting News on Draft Picks for 2011"
29. San Antonio: G CORY JOSEPH, 6-3, 185 pounds, Texas, Fr.
What does Joseph do well? He isn’t fast, isn’t quick, isn’t a great shooter. He’s not especially creative. He wasn’t consistently able to take command of games when the Longhorns needed him. It’s understood that the Spurs have a terrific track record of acquiring quality personnel, but even Rory McIlroy yanks one into the woods now and then.

I agree with you. No point blaming the Spurs for swishing with Cory Joseph.
They had to find a replacement for George Hill for a backup to Parker and had to make a choice from the remaining PGs in a draft which was weak on PGs. And then they did a good move in getting TJ Ford, who got injured unfortunately.

I don't think "who was available" is the point, but perceived value. Spurs took him in the first round when he was a fringe 2nd rounder is the point. His relationship with RC (or RC's relationship with the coach or whatever) seemed to play a larger role.
It's not that there were a bunch of players there who are so much better, but that nothing about CJ warranted a first round pick. Just trade it for a future pick or something.
Some times I don't mind games like this so we can see some of the youngsters. I've liked Leonard's effort tonight. I'm not seeing anything redeeming in Anderson.

Selby was actually who I wanted, just as I wanted Chalmers instead of Hill.
For some reason KU guards outside of Vaughn and Pierce seem to always underperform once they show up int he league.
Selby's story is still being written, but I'd say Hill > Chalmers
Saying we should have grabbed Isaiah Thomas is silly, noone knew he was goign to be half as good as he is now...and even the level he is playing at now is nothing too special to brag about
Norris Cole was picked right before Joseph. I bet my balls the Spurs would have picked him had Miami not picked him right before us. Looking over the 2nd round of players, there really isn't that much available that would have been worth a gamble.

Name another player with two first names who has played well in the NBA. I can't think of one
Kawhi Leonard - if you count Kawhi as a first name. Sean Elliott. Ray Allen. Rick Barry. Rashard Lewis - if you count Rashard as a first name.

Last thing I'll say on the topic: I really don't get how the Spurs are the only team that can't play their best players normal minutes? How do they have the only players that are so fragile you have to tank games to rest them even after playing them career low minutes on average? Makes no sense to me how it got to this point, but looking back, having a roster like that could be a big reason they have failed to win a single 2nd round game since 2008.

mookie used to say this all the time
His feelings were that he'd rather us play Duncan for legit minutes and get legit seasons out of him while we can, rather than play him limited minutes, lose games, and have many years of a lesser player
Same for Parker, Ginobili when they were treated with kid gloves
