Another show I saw was the 30 for 30 documentary, 9.79* about the 100 meter dash in the 1988 Olympics. Really well done. Outside of the Johnson/Lewis battle and dq, they did a great job of giving some of the history of all the other runners and getting interviews will all of them.
Not to mention that it seems like even though Johnson was dirty, he probably would have passed the drug test in Seoul had it not been for some tampering from the Lewis camp. This was an angle that most had dismissed but after watching the show, seems likely. Even Lewis himself didn't deny it.

Just how interested are you in world class sprinting? I realize ya fuck around with me a little with it. But I do get the impression there is some degree of interest there.
Anyway...
In 1984 Ben Johnson won the bronze in the Oly 100m, both Lewis and a cat out of Tennessee named Sam Graddy (who went on to play in the NFL) beat him. If we look at Ben at that time and then in 88 we see two different guys and it was dramatic. He was so much thicker and dense. It was very obvious something was going on.
Ben was more of a power runner he lacked speed endurance something Lewis had in abundance, Lewis a 19.7 200 guy while Ben stayed away from that distance which hurt him. The 100m is all about sustaining/maintaining a high % of your max velocity since nobody is speeding up after 70m. So Ben had to do something or he'd be ran down by Lewis. So instead of adding 400's/200's to his training he got the short cut...steroids. But as we know an athlete still has to put in the training and he did.
Ben's 9.79 is still right there with Bullet Bob's 10.05 on dirt in 64 and Bolts 9.58 as the biggest..WOW!!!!...in sprintdom history as far as the 100m goes. Tommie Smith's 19.5 on a dirt track straight in 66, MJ's 19.32 and Bolts WR the top 200m ...WOW!!!! A lot of us sprint freaks don't care how it was done, it was done.
Carl Lewis is a huge prick, a giant dildo, but a great great athlete. The greatest sprinter/long jumper ever. If he'd not long jumped and was just a sprinter he'd been faster than he was.
Check this out...
Sprinters born in Jamaica.
Olympic gold
Don Quarrie
Linford Christie...GB
Donovan Bailey...Canada
Ben Johnson...Canada
Usain Bolt
Olympic medalists
Lennox Miller
Herb McKenley
Les Laing
George Rhoden
Athur Wint
Michael Frater
Nesta Carter
Yohan Blake
In 1952...Laing, Wint, Rhoden and McKenley shattered the World record in the 4x4. At that time Wint, Roden and McKenley were the top thre 400 guys in the world. McKenley is still the only sprinter to make the finals in the Oly 100/200/400. Histories first sub 45.0 4x4 split.
A whole slew at sub 10.10.
How many Jamaica's fit inside Texas?

Not a big track follower. Always remember some of the U.S. Olympic greats so would tune in to watch track if I knew one of those guys was running. In the 80's there were so many great Olympic stories. Plus the rivalry with the hated Russians and East Germans always made for an interesting background. Followed Lewis and rooted for him in the 84' Olympics just to get medals for the U.S. But was pulling for Johnson by 1988. Only was vaguely aware of the other sprinters that year. Mitchell and Christie. Not much on the rest.
How many Jamaica's fit inside Texas?
All of them. But they would have to deal with rampant racism.
So you don't buy that Lewis took enhancers?

Lewis was a world class athlete as a HS senior, while at Houston he dominated. He really was an amazing athlete. I do doubt he felt the need to cheat. We usually see that from those who need something to up their performances that wasn't Carl Lewis. He was dominate his entire track career so where was the motivation to cheat? Where was the need? He was already beating Ben Johnson. There were no Americans who could deal with him. I do seriously doubt Lewis thought he needed enhancers. Not saying he was above taking something to ease an ailment/injury.
I do think now that big $$$$$ is in track today we have a ton of cheaters, not so back then.

All of these guys are world class athletes. No doubt Lewis is among the best but it's pretty naive to think he didn't cheat like the rest. He failed a test. Also, the guy that ran the lab testing company that tested the 1984 samples actually kept them and went back and retested them again with current methods. After he discovered that an alarmingly high number were coming back positive, he quit testing them.
The Lewis camp had more money and power than any of the other runners. It's not hard to believe that they would know the best methods of doping and avoiding detection.

It was some minor stimulate if I recall. Nothing on the level of steroid abuse.

I saw 9.79.
All we have to do is look at Lewis's performances over his career, we see a very normal set of progression numbers. Nothing...ZAP!!!!!!!!!...like we saw from Johnson. Lewis simply got better with age until a certain point where we all start to fade.
Back then there where tons of silly shit that were on the banned list, then there were actual steroids. Lewis tested position for some minor, what the fuck was that....damn!!!!! Something no longer on the banned list that's how important it wasn't.
Could his camp have hidden something, sure. But like I said, why would Lewis fell threatened, he was already beating everyone.

I can think of a cyclist who was had a great start to his career and had a natural progression.

I just can't see why a guy who was totally dominating his sport felt this need to cheat. Lewis is one of the more intelligent athletes even if he is a prick. For him to take a chance at being popped, he's not that dumb, Ben Johnson as we saw was dumb.
Lewis came from a very well to so family background, not the usual dumb jock from a broken home with saw dust for brains.

Burst my bubble, I can't stand the punk. Total asshole and I'd love to have seen the prick popped.
I don't think you are getting it. Everything has degrees, a bath tub of water is a lot of water until we compare it to a lake which is a hell of a lot of water until we compare it to an ocean. This is like that, what Lewis tested positive for wasn't shit, it had nothing at all to do with helping in his performance, it was something more a long the lines of treating a condition. If you wanna call that cheating then yes he cheated but when compared to steroid abuse it was nothing.
You could see the changes in Ben's physique and it was dramatic. Lewis never looked any different, tall and lanky.
