Just how interested are you in world class sprinting? I realize ya around with me a little with it. But I do get the impression there is some degree of interest there.
Anyway...
In 1984 Ben Johnson won the bronze in the Oly 100m, both Lewis and a cat out of Tennessee named Sam Graddy (who went on to play in the NFL) beat him. If we look at Ben at that time and then in 88 we see two different guys and it was dramatic. He was so much thicker and dense. It was very obvious something was going on.
Ben was more of a power runner he lacked speed endurance something Lewis had in abundance, Lewis a 19.7 200 guy while Ben stayed away from that distance which hurt him. The 100m is all about sustaining/maintaining a high % of your max velocity since nobody is speeding up after 70m. So Ben had to do something or he'd be ran down by Lewis. So instead of adding 400's/200's to his training he got the short cut...steroids. But as we know an athlete still has to put in the training and he did.
Ben's 9.79 is still right there with Bullet Bob's 10.05 on dirt in 64 and Bolts 9.58 as the biggest..WOW!!!!...in sprintdom history as far as the 100m goes. Tommie Smith's 19.5 on a dirt track straight in 66, MJ's 19.32 and Bolts WR the top 200m ...WOW!!!! A lot of us sprint freaks don't care how it was done, it was done.
Carl Lewis is a huge prick, a giant dildo, but a great great athlete. The greatest sprinter/long jumper ever. If he'd not long jumped and was just a sprinter he'd been faster than he was.
