Ok, I'm back with a few more comments.
First, I read this page, and I can sincerely say no one has influenced me one way or the other.
Chump, and SA210 are both pretty cool dudes, I don't care what anybody says, and even if at odds with each other. :lol
SBM, two posters in particular seemed to grasp where you were going with this and only quibbled about minor differences, but seemed to Get It. Bouton something and lgrrrR anyway, can't remember them.
But they were right there with you and that is a good sign.
Your detractors will be legion. This simple reality we have been led to believe is all there is to most of us, and that is hard enough to swallow under normal circumstances, and thus becomes too comfortable as status quo. When "awakened" it is at first both revelatory and uncomfortable because ultimately it requires us to change, and change is never comfortable, thus we have a tendency to resist it no matter how good it may be for us.
This is great stuff, honestly, it is right where I have been traveling. My suspicion now is that there are many of us on this path, but most are either too afraid of the ridicule they will receive if they do speak of it, or are too absorbed in the "doing" of it, in the midst of the journey, or are actively making changes in the world as subtly as possible. And then some may be in loony bins too. :lol
It looks to the "normal" person that one is doing nothing, but in reality they are stripping away the dross. I use these words because they fit the best, and not because of any sort of superiority whatsoever.
Veils, dross, brainwashing, etc. all antonyms of the same thing IMHO.
I'm sure I'll catch some backlash too on this site, but in the grand scheme of things that is a minor inconvenience.
My only advice for you and others SBM, is to not give up, keep awakening every time you fall back asleep in a figurative sense, keep on keeping on. (As if I had any authority to impart advice, right? :lol)
Ok, now back to page 5. Geez it may take days to catch up to here.
You guys keep having fun with your bantering 'till I get back. Drink a beer on me. :lol

Ok, then I was intrigued with the questions to you about your own current % of where you were and others were on the path and their relation to true mystics.
You denied your own ability to maintain a constant state of happiness in those rare moments when you are able to get through the brainwashings.
Pardon my typing, I use an iPad and sometimes it has a mind of its own, thus the need to edit. Always go back and read my thread a second time, that way I have had the chance to do a proper edit. :lol
If anyone wants to they can go to Amazon and google mysticism, Gnosticism, metaphysics, etc. and be shown many books old and new on this subject. Many of those authors could easily be considered mystics, and they constantly reference other mystics in their books.
I don't like using the word "mystic" because of the derogatory significance it has gotten over the years, and it tends to taint or at least slant the discussion to areas of ridicule. To admit you are mystical is different than admitting you are a mystic per say, there is an ego connotation there that some would confuse as one of superiority, so you have to be careful.
But for lack of a better word, I will use it, unless I can come up with a better one. :lol
Anyway, IMHO a true mystic may not even be aware that that is indeed what he/she is, or if they are aware, they may not know where on the path they are simply because no one really knows exactly how the dimension of time affects ones ability to differentiate from one moment of clear lucidity (absence of brainwashing) to the next. It would seem to me that when one is in that true state of clarity, and the longer one can maintain it, then time would possibly cease to be a factor.
Just an idea to ponder over.
Also, to deny that one is a mystic is not a bad thing in favor of simply saying you are on the path (back to that negative connotation the word "mystic" has). But I don't think it can be denied that when one is actively trying to expunge the brainwashing in order to get to the Truth, then he is doing the work of mysticism. So in that respect we are all mystics whenever we endeavor to get past our prior programming i.e. brainwashing. How far we have traveled this path is another discussion because that means we need to define what exactly the "path" is, linear, circular, affects of time, etc. before we can determine our particular placements. Does that make sense? Or is it just hypothetical babble? :lol
My point is, for the sake of the discussion IMHO, we are all on the path in one form or another, and at one point or another.

I think you are right on the money. Pretty much why I always say I am no different than anyone - what else would you expect from a brainwashed person? :lol
Of course - this gets misinterpreted into "you are a hypocrite"
Some mystics say that eternal life - is this moment!
I have read where a mystic was described this way -
When you are on the verge of going insane raving mad - when you are on the edge of lunacy - you are either going to fall off the edge and go insane -
or you become a mystic.
I think I am more on the lunatic side - with a sprinkling or a brief peek into the mystic world.
If this was a different place I could tell you stories about being lost among the redwoods of northern california or the lost nights in big sur cali - but this might only confirm my lunacy! :lol
xmas1997
11-01-2013, 03:28 PM
Just got back from lunch.
I will respectfully disagree with you about your feelings of being a lunatic simply because IMHO I don't think a lunatic could come up with these ideas, and especially be able to elucidate them with the clarity that you have.
Yes, the skeptics will come out in droves and do their usual thing in attempting to discredit your discourse for a myriad of reasons, but even so, it does not invalidate it, all that does is verify how controversial it is. That is to be expected. The truth is real truth can come from anywhere, at anytime, from anything. You have to expect criticism when talking about something like this, but if you are courageous enough to bring it up, then you also have to be willing to fade the heat, and stick to your guns, resist being sidetracked, and laugh at your own folly.
That is why I caution you to not be afraid to admit that you are on a mystical path even though you still possess many of the faults that most all of us have. This journey is an extremely subjective one, so it will be different for each person as each of us discover our true identities as well as our true realities. Yes, I said reality in the pluralistic tense.
IMHO when we get those glimpses of our personal reality beyond our brainwashing, then who is to say how much of that reality is commonly shared, especially since the concept of reality defies definition and thus explanation. There are no reference points to compare it with. For each individual, there is a reality, some of which is shared, and some of which isn't shared.
Since how a person feels, and conceives that he is, at any given point in time, that is his particular reality, and at any given point in time. That reality appears differently when seen through the unveiled eyes of someone when they are free of brainwashing, for however long that experience lasts, or however long the mystic can maintain it, rather than how it appears while in the brainwashed state, which IMHO is the majority of our lives.
Thus reality is mutable, it changes, depending upon our perceptions.
That is why another indisputable Truth is "change".
Thus, reality is continually in a state of flux.
We can easily say that reality is common for all regardless of what we think and feel, but does that make it so, just because we say it is? That is the same as saying that all reality is objective in nature and can be explained, but who knows this for sure? No one.
There is another thing that needs to be considered with respect to reality, and that is "free will". Many mystics believe that free will is the same as the power of creation in that each and every thought that we have is the vehicle we use to shape and create our own personal subjective reality, and this vehicle is amplified by emotion, and finally by the spoken word.
In other words, not only are you able to create your own realities by imagining it, but you also give it impetus by feeling the truth of it, and even more by speaking it. We are creating reality each and every moment of our lives. And if it is done under the brainwashed state, then it comes with all the BS and imperfections part and parcel. This would explain most of the ills in the world, the terrible things that happen to some people, and not to others.
Free will comes with a tremendous responsibility in that one needs to censure their thoughts, feelings, and words, otherwise they can literally create their own hell on earth especially if they are under the spell of brainwashing and thus creating their own reality imperfectly.
Ok, I expect to be slammed on this, so have at it. I only hope I am somehow up to the task of explaining this, to all the nay sayers especially since these concepts are for the most part inexplicable.

In our attempts to explain reality there are many theories coming out of string theory in science these days. The superstring theory, the Multiverse theory, and the parallel universe theory are just a few, and backed up by mathematics.
That last one posits that any given person can exist at the same time in more than one place. If we were somehow able to tap into the power to travel to these other universes then we would be able to theoretically "meet" our other selves. And since there are an infinite number of universes, then there are an infinite number of ourselves. We may be a doctor here, a trash collector there, that is an infinite number of us doing an infinite number of things.
In other words, there are an infinite number of Chumps and an infinite number of SBMs, :lol doing an infinite number of things with each other and an infinite number of things separate from each other, in some they do not even know each other, in others they are good friends, while in others they even be related to each other, or are arguing with each other like they are here.
This is a further example of how "realities" are mutable, and as yet only theorized about.
As the mystic is better able to maintain his understanding that he is forever in the "now" and thus erase his brainwashing, then his reality is the knowing that he is creating as he creates, rather than being unaware of his haphazard brainwashed creating.

There's no controversy here.
I also forgot to mention that there are an infinite number of Blake's too, just like Mouse says in an infinite number of cubicles doing an infinite number of things. In one you are SBMs good buddy, in another you are mortal enemies, in one you are a super happily married fellow, in another you are a bitter depressed slob, in one you are a genius, but in another one you are a ..........
:lol
There are an infinite number of possibilities and all define your personal subjective reality.
You are even a super hero in one just as you wanted to be, but you are also a super villain in another one, Blake.
I guess it just goes to show, you can't win them all. :lol

I concur with a lot of what you said and appreciate the input.
I know that I invited a lot of hostility by the way I stated things and by the way that I went about things in general - some of it was deliberate - a lot of it was semi-deliberate and a little was planned. A tiny bit of method to the madness if you will.
When I stumbled upon these things myself - my first reaction was - anger/hostility - I mean - who the fuck are you to label me "brainwashed" "programmed"
Except - I pondered on what I kept discovering - and this hostility turned to - curiosity - then it went from there. To be open to what might be found - is not the same as being gullible -it is just an openness to receive "new" information - and not just look for things that "confirm" your conclusions/opinions/knowledge. The more I kept discovering - it began to horrify me - when it began to dawn on me that there might be truth in this new information and that it was probably the main reason for my suffering . (Again - this is where suffering can be a great help -to you - and is given to you for a reason - to help you grow.) I was horrified to learn that I had been completely "taught wrong" or "had allowed myself to be so completely programmed" and I was horrified to learn that almost every single thought, every reaction, every thing in my life - had come from programming. Then it was either - go into denial - and close my eyes and go back to the comfort of the world I knew - in other words - stay programmed and stay asleep - or -
get to doing the work of de-programming myself. Make a stand and do the work of getting de-programmed.
A lot of the things that I was fortunate/unfortunate to have experienced were a gift/curse? and set me on this path - I think everyone has their own journey and there are times when -if I was presented with the same information - I would not have been ready - or I would have missed it.
Suffering is a great gift - to be given - and maybe because of this I was able to receive this information -
I mention this because some of this stuff - might point someone else - towards the path - which then they will follow their intuition and find their way. Sometimes you can't see it - this minute - or at this point in your life - but it might hit you at a later time in your life.
On the other hand - if you had already concluded that the messenger was a ____ ____ & a piece of ______ - before even reading the information - then it might just seem like the information is pure _____.

Looks to me like we are all on our paths, at least those of us honest enough to admit it, and those of us willing to do the legwork, rather than "settling" for our lots in life.
That is a good sign.
Even Blake is on his path because I doubt he likes being "asleep". I suspect he prefers being somewhat in control of his reality.
Did you see how many Blakes there are out there in my last post?
Parallel Universe Theory is a fascinating one.
And can be quite humorous. :lol

So now are you doing the deprograming?
What happened to Boutons_deux?
He was right on cue with his assessment and discussing Jesus letting his reality of the little you die so He could open the way for the realization of the true Reality of the True You come forth. He only had one or two posts.
And what happened to LnGrrrR? He was a self proclaimed atheistic existentialist who was really into the discussion with many eye opening posts from an atheistic point of view. Just goes to show no one has a monopoly on Truth.
Also what happened to TeysheBlue? Was she some sort of musician?

I can only guess why boutons only posted once or twice -
A) Didn't care for the topic
B) Didn't want to have the "gang" against him
C) Has nothing else to say -
D) Your guess is as good as mine
Same for LnGrrr -
Teysha posted a link I believe - decent musician - but then afterwards - he just joined the "gang" and all his posts were attacks.

You are charlatan on so many levels... It's difficult to take this approach seriously as it is basically saying fuck it, we don't know what reality is and then we get into a huge discussion about definitions of words which you approach in a haphazard manner. This cavalier airy, fairy crap.
I am leaving town for work but I will humbly ask for 3 definitions...

What I said was fraudulent? That was what you took away from what I said? I wasn't selling anything.
I was explaining some things that I have learned however. I repeat, "things I have learned".
What is your definition of your subjective reality?
Mystic = One who has a deep, inner sense of Life and Unity with the Whole. Or a person who claims to attain, or believes in the possibility of attaining, insight into mysteries transcending ordinary human knowledge.
Realities = Everything that is and has been, whether or not it is observable or comprehensible. A broader definition is everything that has existed, exists, or will exist.
Self = The essential qualities that constitute a persons's uniqueness or essential being.
These are things that you could have just as easily looked up for yourself.
Deepak Chopra is a New Age guru, but you could easily argue that he is a mystic.
I contend we are all mystics as long as we are on the path to seeking our inner Truth.
And that happens as soon as we realize what SBM has said about what we have been brainwashed all our lives to accept as real, as reality, or as truth, is not the Real Truth or Reality we were born with.

This is a fine example of psuedo-intellectual nonsense.
String theory supposes that quarks and electrons are made up of vibrating strings. In order for the theory to work, the strings have to move in extra dimensions to meet the law of conservation of energy.
There is no mathematical justification for a parallel universe that are in any way analogous to our own. This is just mystical bullshit that you tack on without justification.

The other day I was driving back home from Lowes and traffic was a little heavy.
I was pretty much following the car in front of me and listening to some tunes on the radio, not really paying much attention.
When all of a sudden ...... the car in front came to a screeching halt.
I slammed on my brakes, but I was a little too close and a little too late.
Because my truck just barely came to stop bumping into him.
It didn't even put a mark on his car, but apparently the guy inside was super pissed.
Because when he got out of his car he was stomping mad and cussing up a storm.
I noticed he was a dwarf, of all things, as he stomped around and then came stomping over to my truck.
I rolled down my window to hear what he had to say.
He came over all blustery and said, "I AM NOT ....... HAPPY"!

Well rather than just call you a shill for stupidity, I will lay out my case with evidence. I came into this thread and made the following post.
Indisputable truths.
I see. I hear. I feel. I taste. I smell. I am.
Anything else and people are just fronting.
I then left the thread for 24 hours. I didn't post in it and during that timeframe you began talking shit about me to anyone who would listen.
Here is a new truth I just discovered, Fuzzy is a very contentious and hostile poster hiding behind pseudo intellectualism who apparently would rather draw you into a virtual pissing contest than debate or discuss an issue with civility and maturity.
This could change, but so far he seems content to spread his mischief and mayhem wherever he posts.
One can only feel sorry for someone of that nature, while at the same time simply avoiding him.
Then you make this post. Veritably out of nowhere but we both know what precipitated you coming over here to bad mouth me like this. I do appreciate the iron of you saying I am "content to spread his mischief and mayhem wherever <I> post.' You and skull then have a 8 post Fuzzy hatefest which I finally notice so I come in and make a joke.
Wow. xmass and skull sure like to gossip about me.
I do love how this thread is about the truth and you spent two pages making it about me when I haven't posted in for over a day.
I am the truth.
So what could I have posted a couple of days ago that made you get into a tizzy and going where I am not talk talk bad about me? I now show the following.
If and when you admit you snitched - and then speak to me in a civil manner - I will be more than a gentleman towards you.
This garbage of snitching on someone and then denying it - even after the proof was posted - is no way to be a credible man.
You get what you pay for.
This is the typical snitch nonsense they bandy about.
There's no proof.
This is the typical response to the snitch nonsense. But then you decide to show your ass with the following and it is hilarious that you call what I write "pseudo-intellectual"
Why do you need proof?
Aren't some things self evident?
Don't worry, I won't stoop to insults.
I've got better things to do than that. However you might take a word to the wise about that.
Lighten up, buddy, get some laughter in your life.
Not everyone is out to get you, or make fun of you.
Now at this point I say
This is baiting if I have ever seen it.
and then voila you start in with your current diatribe trying to insult my intelligence etc.
How so?

A couple of books you might try are:
"Portals To Higher Consciousness" by Norman D. Livergood
and:
"The Perennial Tradition" by Norman D. Livergood
and for the serious "seeker", the series of little brown books called:
"The Life And Teachings Of The Masters Of The Far East" by Baird T. Spalding
(A word of caution, be prepared to have your life turned upside down if you read Spaldings series, they will change your life in ways you never imagined, all for your greater good, but "change it" they will, whether you want it to or not! And "change" can often times be very uncomfortable at first. You are forewarned.)
and for a great mystical storybook ride:
"The Teachings Of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way Of Knowledge" by Carlos Castaneda
It could be argued that Castaneda used his mystic abilities to write a series of entertaining books framing his own discoveries about Truth in a pleasant interesting easy to read story format based loosely on Shamanism.
He actually wrote five books using the Don Juan character, all good, and all progressively more complex, "Journey To Ixtlan: The Lessons Of Don Juan" being the best of the five, especially if you are into spiritual existentialism. Just keep in mind, they are more fantasy than reality.

Thanks for the suggestions;
I will indeed look them up.
As far as the Castaneda books - a lot of cynics and "scholars" will scoff at his work as some new age - whatever - it is their opinion.
There is a school of thought that if there is some inconsistency or some fiction in the work - then it is ALL worthless.
I am not in that school - I prefer to find the good wherever it can be found or the truth hidden amongst the rest of the work. I have read some new age things where it turned out they used a lot of spiritual truths but they also created a fictional story to get their truth across in an entertaining way.

IMHO there is a lot of fantasy in Castanedas books, but there are also some spiritual truths there too. He just died in 1998 so apparently he is not as indestructible as he said.
Watch out for the Spaulding books, you will never be the same after reading them, seriously. If you do not want to change and you are content with the status quo then they will shake up your world and it will not be a comfortable experience at first, even though it is for your own greater good. There are only six small books but packed with incredible truth.
My first collection burnt up in a house fire years ago. It took me awhile to replace them. Each time I read them they open my mind in a totally different way than the way they did before. I suppose it is because each time I am at a different level or at a different place on my path.
The Perennial Tradition goes into detail of most of the mystical thinkers and movers in history like Aristotle, Huxley, Jesus, Planck, Paul the Apostle, Tesla, etc.

I actually found the critics of Castaneda to be as interesting as Castaneda himself. There is one author in particular, Ken Eagle Feather, who analyzed the Don Juan books and came up with some valid contradictions that expanded the subject.

Another book along the line of this thread is "America Awake! We Must Take Back Our Country" by Norman D. Livergood.
In it he described the current condition of the social-political-economic world.
Livergood states, "That book's purpose was to help people awaken to the reality of what is happening in that world ---beyond the illusory myths of political-economic propaganda and brainwashing."
His thesis is that unless America awakens it will likely suffer the fate of 1930s Germany dictatorship, repression, and imperialistic militarism.

There is so much BS here is difficult to know where to start so I will go with this New Age Mystic Medicine man fad. Guys like Chopra are very well versed in their field but then when they get down to something that confuses them they totally disregard science and make some rather wild claims that suck in people that are semliterate and curious (not to be equated with I don't know, this is not what Chopra does to attract attention)
Chopra, for example, claims that genes must be intelligent because humans are intelligent. Yet genes are just regions of DNA that contain information for producing proteins, which in itself is a simplified view based on what we know now. Chopra claims that scientists fail tp look at mechanisms outside of DNA responsible for intelligence and therefore his mystism is critical for our understanding.
Scientists do not consider any attempt to find intelligence outside of DNA “preposterous.” It is not a reasonable inference to conclude that because our brains are “intelligent” must imply that our genes are also “intelligent,” nor do scientists make that argument. We are realizing the incredible interplay between gene control, gene products, environment impinging on neural networks at various stages of development, yet we need mysticism because we have run out of ideas?
Nope. So Deepak is not clever enough to see a mechanism therefore Science can't handle it?
Give us a break.
This is worse than any preacher making buttloads of money fooling people. This guy actually knows most of his stuff but then he makes these incredible half-baked leaps in logic to convince types that are fairly well acquainted with an area of science... They have read stuff, but don't get the deeper problems that science is attempting to deal with so they throw up their hands and go mystic. Wonderful, we can't get it because all these mystics like Xmas don't...
As far as God? Are you Frkn kidding? What is God? Of course science can't handle something that people have invented that has nothing about mass, velocity, energy?.. Jesus Christ how can science handle something that we have no way of observing through any method. So we leave that up to the religious (including mystics) to go about their own methods that have nothing to do with science.
I personally have no problems with meditating, spirituality, any of the methods that help people find some peaceful meaningful place for them. Just don't be disingenuous and link it with the very restricted method of science. Or claim that science can't solve certain problems dealing with the human brain because Deepak can't.
Repeat the above for most of the others Xmas mentions.
So now why don't we distort quantum mechanics into something that is mystical as well? Can't wait to see the leapfrog logic on this one...It's very tough, and anyone claiming they have a good grip on the whole of it don't really know it. So it's easy to go magic mystical on this one.

It may surprise you to find out that I agree with practically everything you wrote, even though you leveled your criticism at me, and that I am not a Chopra fan. In point of fact, I am one of his critics, but none of that negates that he has some truths to impart, or that he is on a mystical path.
Like I said, the word "mystic" or "mysticism" has attained some measure of derision these days. That may be well and good. It forces the issue for those "self-proclaimed" mystics to clean up their act so to speak, that is, if they even bother to consider what any one thinks about them. I doubt they do.
My contention is that for those on the path for Truth, that they do not negate any source, methodology, or mechanism from aiding them in understanding all that there is, and as much as they can at any given moment. They refuse to accept the status quo, and thus actively attempt to lift the veils that hide the truth, be it brainwashing, or whatever.
In this respect, I am no different than you or anyone else, who is on that path.
Plus, it is no more mystical or mysterious than eating breakfast or taking a shit. It just is.
You would be surprised to learn how many of the greatest minds that have existed, be they scientist, philosopher, or what have you, were considered the mystics of their times, from Confucius, Jesus, Aristotle, Plato etc. to Einstein, Huxley, Planck, Tesla etc. Indeed, they left no stone unturned on their way to their discoveries, all in the quest to discover Truth.
They were not concerned with how the average Joe, Tom, Dick, and Harry perceived them. They were not satisfied nor complacent nor content with everyday mundane explanations of reality. Because they inherently knew or felt that there was more beneath the surface than what their normal senses showed. And still they suffered their fair share of derision and ridicule from the ignorant, uninformed, and brainwashed among them. Yet none of this stopped them.
How you arrived at your conclusions from what I have said before escapes me. Because as I said, I agree with your assertion, except where you have conveniently inserted me into it. See my statement above for better clarity.

Everyone starts at some basic status quo. I think it is fundamentally correct, given that there is no clear definition of what god is, to say that science cannot answer questions about god.
And everyone of those men you mentioned had their status quo hang ups. Einstein could not abide that quantum mechanics relied heavily on probability. "God does not roll dice" ...
You are referring to modeling problems in a different way. There is nothing mystical about modeling, so why not use a new model instead of mystical? And the modeling is based on sound reasoning. I guess it's too boring so something that borders on magical sounds better?
And reasonable people negate sources that are not based on fundamental logic and reasoning. Sorry, but when my wallet falls off the dresser in the middle of the night, I am not spending time on searching for my dead grandmother penny pincher. Have you heard of Occam's razor? Dipshit.
I am not referring to the actual scientists - they already know that science is not superior.
I was referring to the idiotic trolls like yourself and your rump ranger buddies who come in here spewing garbage and acting superior to people that believe in a "god"
Guess that was a little too "deep" for your simple mind.
So quote me on exactly what garbage I spewed fuckwad?
What exactly did I say that you disagree with? Where did I claim people who believe in a god or gods are inferior? Where?
You got a little spank when you were explained the difference, nothing to be ashamed of.

Then you attempted to explain something you know nothing about and it made you look pretty stupid.

Leave your shit out of science. That's what I said. Don't do what the authors given by XMas do that are now on your must read list. Most of those guys do exactly what I stated Chopra has done. Interject mystic spirituality into an endeavor he claims science can't handle. That's what I stated!

Will do - and maybe you can read some of the thread - which was the basis for Xmas to align those things you mentioned.
The topic was brainwashing and spirituality and reality.
Science is sometimes relevant and at other times not.
What I referred to in my post - are comments like this;
New Age Mystic Medicine man fad.
and this;
half-baked leaps in logic
and;
Just don't be disingenuous and link it with the very restricted method of science.
To name a few.
These things are no more correct than a spiritual person ridiculing science.
No one has the upper hand in these mysteries that we are talking about. Not science. Not religion. Not scholars. Not idiots.

In the topics I mentioned in the posts, science has a number of approaches to take but the mystics lied and stated science is stuck here. (Read what I said about Deepak Chopra and most of those other authors mentioned by Xmas), they have pulled his same medicine man crap. Read it again and I will explain it again. Keep the shit out of good science.
All of the quotes you got up are good descriptions on what these charlatans are trying to pull. And people actually buy the tapes and books after reading his excerpts.

Let's make it real simple....
#1) You can add all kinds of knowledge, degrees, theories, concepts, ideas, conventions, etc....just pile on everything you can cram in your brain for as many years as you want....
#2) You can subtract all those things above - and keep subtracting - until all your programming, conditioning, etc is completely wiped out....
In matters of god/truth/reality/love -
I would put my money on the 2nd one being the closest to what "reality" is.

Hell if you tried to read about the subject you would infact, brainwash yourself so that you would taint your ability to REALLY understand brainwashing by your own clean the slate methods.
Why I believe what I believe because I understand what I believe is tainted by what I have experienced. Damn.

It's very useful, try it. Or wander aimlessly, we only have a short time, cut to the chase.
Yes, very astute of you. From William of Ockham. To wit, when you have two competing theories that make exactly the same predictions, the simpler one is the better.
But Ernst Mach had his own version. "Scientists must use the simplest means of arriving at their results and exclude everything not perceived by the senses."
The problem with that is with the "senses". If they are clouded by agendas or biased in any way whatsoever then the theory will contain limitations.
That is why the use of strictly logic and reason can in many cases block the discovery of Truth.
As for God? I have barely an inkling of the concept. I prefer to concentrate on Truth. That concept is hard enough. And I suspect once Truth is understood, then the concept of God will be much clearer. And before we can understand Truth, it may be necessary to understand the concept of "knowledge".
One step at a time. :lol
The esoteric teaching about knowledge and being refers to the fact that knowledge cannot be understood unless there is a corresponding development of being.
A man may know a great deal and understand nothing because his being is not equal to his knowledge.
As a consequence, no inner union can take place between his being and his knowledge . . . The man of poor being and great knowledge can only give out meaningless material that leads nowhere.
And not only this, but he can only complicate everything and make it unintelligible.
A new model for "mystical" probably is called for as you say, I just have not heard of one yet that fits our modern day sensibilities. Possibly "seeker on the path to Truth" is the best I can come up with. In any case, such a one generally isn't concerned so much with labels or models as they are with "change", since everything is in a constant state of change.
The true "seeker" never evangelizes, never tries to convince people they ought to achieve a higher state of being, never argues with a seed that it should become a plant. Rather, he simply makes available the knowledge that a seed can become a plant --- if it learns how to die to being a seed.
And there are many pitfalls as well as falsities, and also those who would pose as seekers of the Truth who really are not, thus leading many astray. But most of all there are the detractors and the ridiculers who can stifle ones growth toward Truth. So you first have to ask, what in a seed would keep it a seed?
- The assumption that it's present state of being is final and complete,
- Fear of what it means to die as a seed,
- The presumption that it is already a plant (there are many seeds, pretending to be plants),
- Suspicion of the idea that seeds can become plants,
- Complete satisfaction with its present state as a seed,
- Laziness, lethargy, obsession with seed pleasures.
Any and all of this can impede ones progress.

You said in a few words what took me paragraphs to try to explain. I commend you.
I just don't know if some can comprehend such a simple definition without retreating back to their safe haven of logic, reason, and scientific method.
But in the final analysis it really doesn't matter because a true seeker of Truth is not concerned with those things as much as he is with "arriving" at Truth, whichever path takes him there is secondary, and whoever truly seeks, will find it. The rest will wallow in their own self maintained levels of mediocrity.

There is no logical basis for occam's razor. oh and quantum mechanics say hello. It's little surprise that in a capitalist society such an ethic gets play as the simpler solution is typically cheaper. Mach just doesn't like people making shit up.

WTF are you talking about. A logical construct is not empirical and as such outside of the initial induction is completely developed in the mind. Seeing that everything can be 'clouded' its irrelevant as a comparison tool.
As for God? I have barely an inkling of the concept. I prefer to concentrate on Truth. That concept is hard enough. And I suspect once Truth is understood, then the concept of God will be much clearer. And before we can understand Truth, it may be necessary to understand the concept of "knowledge".

You wrap truth in the same bullshit mumbo jumbo as the your god so what difference does it make?
The esoteric teaching about knowledge and being refers to the fact that knowledge cannot be understood unless there is a corresponding development of being.
A man may know a great deal and understand nothing because his being is not equal to his knowledge.
And here we get your mumbo jumbo regarding knowledge. replace the word knowledge with god and you can see exactly what I am talking about. "A man may know a great deal and understand nothing because his being is not equal to his god." you trying to set up a country club for knowledge. skull-1 loves this notion.
As a consequence, no inner union can take place between his being and his knowledge . . . The man of poor being and great knowledge can only give out meaningless material that leads nowhere.
And not only this, but he can only complicate everything and make it unintelligible.
Unintelligible like you are doing right now? I have no difficulty understanding what I know. That is the beauty of logic and empiricism. A logical conclusion based on proven principles has merit. A verifiable observation has merit. Mystical sky man that I have to prepare my being to understand? Not so much.
A new model for "mystical" probably is called for as you say, I just have not heard of one yet that fits our modern day sensibilities. Possibly "seeker on the path to Truth" is the best I can come up with. blah blah blah blah. semantics and trying to mystify the notion of entropy.
The true "seeker" never evangelizes, never tries to convince people they ought to achieve a higher state of being, never argues with a seed that it should become a plant. Rather, he simply makes available the knowledge that a seed can become a plant --- if it learns how to die to being a seed.

- Suspicion that reality is completely unlike the sensory world in every way shape and form even by extension ie a microscope

Suddenly - 2 or 3 - of us did all this work that it took 50 of them to do?
I guess we are bad asses.

I think he may be obsessed with the fact I won't succumb to his feeble attempts to bait me into a pissing contest with him.
I told him I was neutral, I don't take sides, and apparently he hates me for it. In fact lately all we get are emotional rants and raves.
Honestly, I am a little worried about his mental health.
You can easily see what I am referring to when he broke down my long post and went ape.

I meant to say we are constantly in the process of honing models and using the best models to fit our perceived results. Newtonian mechanics works extraordinarily well and is learned by every engineering student. But Einsteins modeling of gravity is more precise.
I have no idea what you mean by development of being. I have no idea what a higher state of being means. Ockhams razor is used to get rid of totally frivolous explanations, especially if they invoke the supernatural as in my example.
I was was trained as science guy and I realize the limitations that an ape like creature that evolved for life on grassy plains littered with trees and our exquisite efforts to invent symbolic language are lacking. We can't directly sense radio waves or make physical models for many phenomena that math explains much better. Tough luck for us, I don't believe we were predetermined to exist to understand the natural world. I'm fine with that.
Thus this thread will not lead me to just start making stuff up. I'm not going to pounce upon some grand unified theory of consciousness and being just to make myself comfy. Or pretend like I know what states of being are. If you are referring to recognition of self among individuals, ability to empathize, question how a bundle of neurons calls itself me, the evolution of symbolic language, we can take those on separately. But I don't know what a poor state of being is. We cannot begin to communicate on this being stuff.
And I don't know all the history of various conflicts on this board. I don't play games of praise unless I think I really learn something new. I just have not found it here. The interest I have is how wacked out various posters are. I had no idea there existed such a misunderstanding between various methods people choose to ask questions that interest them. Curious brainwashing... Non potable water on the head. I'm done.

Your input is most welcome. Truth comes in all forms and sizes, and every source and profession under the sun. No one has a monopoly on it.
IMHO we all have things we can learn in order to expand our awareness of things. I don't know about God, I have my own ideas about Him, but Truth can come from anywhere.

I'm done.
I don't know if you read the first page of this thread, but that is where the premiss was laid down by SBM. To come in on it at the end here would only give you a skewed idea of where it has gone since then. In between the pissing contests there have been some great ideas and opinions expressed that IMHO are worthy of keeping the discussion alive.
So to get an good grasp of the topic you really need to read the first 6 or so pages.

I hope he does put me on ignore, then I don't have to worry about the poor dude. Seriously!
At least then he would quit following me around trying to make a mockery of my posts, and trying to bait me into his pissing contests! He must have a "thing" against neutrality.
:lmao
Damn, you are fucking funny too!
What the hell just happened with fluffy?
You hope I put you on ignore and wonder where I went?
Thanks, avante.

I'd prefer not to converse mate as you seemed to be in a fragile state the last time. Or you can read the page I already answered that query.
Cheers.

Avante? Are you seeing ghosts again?
Just put me on ignore. That would save you a lot of grief and maybe allow you to catch up on your REM sleep.

Nah, you still try to 'mediate' far too often. Have fun with your circle jerk. I am off to do something else.

I have found that for the most part it is best to let fuzzy have his tantrums and just disregard his posts. He seems to have a hard time maintaining a civil non hostile demeanor. So I just let him have his say, but then I resist replying to him so as to not get him any more excited.
Rather, I reply to the other posters who express a genuine desire to discuss and share their ideas and experiences in regard to the topic.

I value my REM sleep.
You should really get some too, seriously.

Perhaps you should consider why you feel the need to hide what your intentions are. Why you need to present yourself as something that you are not.
For example, you have responded to each and everyone of my posts. I try to examine what you write. You have no interest in examining it because it only serves to justify the inane back and forth that this forum has become.
The truth can be found anywhere? You are trying to mediate? We need to grow to be able to accept the truth?
When I refute the validity of all of that you instead claim you ignore my posts but really what you do is try your moralisms. That is all you ahve done from the very beginning. So I call you a disingenuous charlatan.
I'm not going to go in this inane back and forth. I will simply ignore the circle jerk and address people that give credence to you bullshit. As I say you guys are not my intended audience.
Bad night.

Hmm, opinions, facts, and fiction, these are concepts you seem to have a problem wrapping your mind around.
Did you get any REM sleep?
Really, you need some laughter in your life in the worst way.
Maybe if you took a sabbatical from ST you could get a little of both.
Just saying, ......... and a bit concerned about your mental state of being.
A fuzzy mind is, as a fuzzy mind does. :lol
However since it isn't too too late I'll give you the benefit of the doubt one more time. Let's break it down, shall we?
Moralism, (conventional moral maxim or attitude)
Mediate, (occupying a middle position)
Disingenuous, (not genuinely sincere)
Charlatan, (a person who makes fraudulent claims)
Credence, (acceptance as true)
Intended, (aimed at)
Inane, (silly)
Truth, (actual state of a matter)
Audience, (listeners collectively)
And all of these big and scary words used in the same post?
Well done, fuzzy. I am quite surprised, actually.
But you do realize, don't you, that it only serves to strengthen your argument, when you know the meaning of those words. That is why I broke them all down for you so you could better understand what you wrote.
No thanks needed.
But why didn't you also use NEUTRALITY, while you were at it? :lol
Neutrality, (refusal to take part in a war)
But then that might have been too much loss of brain synapses to overcome.
There, there, all better now?
