Mike Greenberg responded "No, I absolutely don't see them being contenders im sorry" then they followed by both D riding each other by saying "Im rooting for Miami today, just for a Game 7 and so Lebron's legacy doesn't get crushed because its not fair"

Of course they count out the Spurs. They've been doing it for years. Let them talk about those loser teams while we get our 5th ring. Hilariously irrelevant how NBA goings on is actually talked about while the greatest teams are still playing.

Eventually they'll be correct. Maybe next year will be when father time catches up to Duncan and Manu falls further.
The media have been calling the Spurs too old since 2007. Nothing new to see.
The media created this monster and now they are dealing with it. This is what you get for calling a guy "The King" before he even made it to the championship round. I have nothing wrong with people calling LeBron a great player, or even best in the world. A lot of times, he is that good. But his entitled attitude has extended to his teammates, Heat "fans" and of course the media who constantly talks him up.
LeBron James is a great basketball player, but he's not perfect and there aren't five of him on the court at once. He's gotten help from his teammates in the games they've won, so you can't pin this on the Heat's other players like you could the Cavs in 2007. The Spurs have beaten them in the three games they've won. An acquaintance of mine, and I say that loosely because he's a gigantic LeBron dick sucking douchebag, said the Heat let the Spurs win Game 1. Really? They were leading the game for 3 and a half quarters and just let the Spurs seal the game on a clutch run in the 4th? Bet you still have a Cleveland #23 jersey.
Sports aren't fair. Life isn't fair. You work hard and get back what you put into it. Sometimes somebody else puts in more and beats you. That's how it fucking works.

The true significance of events seems to be lost....
Basketball is only a game. The true measure of greatness is how you conduct yourself on and off the floor.
Lebron James and people like him cannot be role models for the young. James is too immature, his ego overblown to gigantic proportions. He has NOT done something for Humanity yet, and yet he acts as if he is a god on earth.
This is one of the roots of evil in our society, when the young idolize the wrong people, and think how they act is the human way.
So sad.

Heat were feeling out the Spurs in the 1st game and not playing with any urgency in the 4th quarter because they had held the lead comfortably for the first 3 1/2 quarters. That sense of entitlement/belief in the media buildup works against them when the game gets tight - added pressure creates unnecessary doubt. SAS doesn't have that as nobody expects them to win this series and haven't been building them up for the past 3 seasons.
Even if SA does win the media won't give them much credit, fans are already saying LBJ is choking, his supporting cast is no different than the Cavs etc. when in reality it's taking a whole team to limit Lebron, elite defense from Kawhi/Green, role players stepping up, etc. an entire team effort defensively and offensively that you rarely see.
They'll refuse to acknowledge just how great this team is like they always have, and I'm fine with that.

Three of those teams were first round fodder, and the following season they are going all the way to win the west? The Grizzlies got swept in the WCF, well OKC could be good, time will tell.
While Duncan and Manu could decline, Cory seems to be good, Green could be the finals MVP and Kawhi has improved a lot, even Parker keeps improving. If Dwight has a brain, he will sign with the Spurs as FA.

Lebron's legacy was tainted the minute he left Cleveland. A true champion fights to get his team over the line. It's the only credit I give Jordan, Kobe, Olajuwon, hell I'll even pay it to Dirk.
To me 2012 and any championships he might manage to win in Miami will always have the "*" next to it. It wasn't fought for, the hardships were not endured, and I'm sure deep down.... he knows it too, and when he's career is over... he'll look back and know that any number of championships won in Miami couldn't match what say what might have been in 2007 or a real title earned in Cleveland.

Mike Greenberg (or Greenburg) - does it really matter? This guy is a tool of the highest order. He thinks he is an expert on the NBA because he covered the Chicago Bulls almost 20 years ago. Because the Spurs succeeded the Bulls, he looked down on them as inferior. He has denegrated the Spurs and looked at them with some kind of disdain for YEARS. He was the biggest bitcher and moaner when Steve Nash flopped in the 2007 playoffs and the bench suspensions occurred. The Spurs win the title and the Spurs (in his mind) did not deserve the championship - the Suns deserved it in his mind. Every time the Spurs have made serious playoff runs the last ten years this fool has looked down on the Spurs. He wanted OKC to beat SA last year because he had a man crush on Durant. He picked against the Spurs EVERY round this playoffs. I doubt he even has watched any Spurs games until the playoffs and his opinions are based on zero knowledge.
Mike Golic is a mouth breathing moron - nothing further on him to really talk about. He can barely speak the English language.
These fools did say they wanted Miami to win because "they want a game 7". I doubt they would say that if Miami was up 3-2. They would be talking about Lebron's legacy and adding to it. These stupid yankees that infest the ESPN Disney monster don't even hide their disdain for the Spurs because they don't follow the marching orders of Mr. Stern and the 5th Avenue NBA office.
If I recall the regular season controversy was in part due to the Miami road game was an ABC or ESPN game. These people don't like that either. Just another reason to hope the Spurs win tonight.

Millions of sports fans. That's why they're on TV and radio to a nationwide audience.
I don't think they are particularly talented or interesting. They are just part of a big machine that has an agenda to promote. A wildly successful Spurs franchise is contrary to the ABC/Disney agenda of promoting the divas that populate the Heat/Lakers/Clippers roster.
I have more of a problem with Greenburg because he never gives the Spurs any credit without sounding like it is a begrudging credit.
He may surprise me if the Spurs win the LOBT today or Thursday, but I doubt it. I believe the Spurs run would be more impressive than the Bulls overall due to its longevity - five championships over a 16 year span. I doubt many people would agree with me.

Well if Mike Green berg is saying the Heat will win tonight, that means they'll lose. Dude has an uncanny way of jinxing teams. Here's hoping anyway.
dont think either of them do basketball pretty well, but since they are the flagship ESPN radio show they tend to have good analysts. PJ, AJ, and DRob has been on a few times now. I actually really enjoy when the have Doug Collins on, he's good. Van Pelt and Russilo are the best for hoops.

They don't even know how each roster will look this year. The Spurs could improve even more next year... We have come this far with only two good games from Ginobili! So it would be ignorant for me to say "who cares what Shalyman M. Night says about movie making." Just like it didn't make sense for the person I quoted to say "who cares what mike and mike say". Because obviously, millions more people care about what they think than what any of us think.

I posted a thread about this a few days ago. I asked what the odds were that Pop would rest his players to give them 3 full days off before game 7. I took the position that the Spurs could have a better shot to win game 7 at 100% rather than playing game 6 at 90%, losing, then playing game 7 at 75% due to 3 games in 5 nights. I heard no rational argument to the contrary, just typical spurstalk venom.
I have to say it was refreshing to see a national expert like Skip Bayless agree with me. I mean, if Pop thinks its a sound strategy to use, then why not use it when it matters the most, the NBA Finals.

No, absolutely not! I hate to burst your bubble, but it's not happening. This is the NBA Finals, you seize the chance to finish a team when it presents itself. You don't give Miami a win and give them confidence. Anything can happen in a game 7, especially on the road. Right now Miami is doubting themselves, they and the rest of the world assumed they would win game 5 and be up 3-2, headed home. It didn't happen. You could see how upset Lebron was. He was clearly distraught and stressed out. Spoelstra looks beside himself. San Antonio is in Miami's heads right now. Strike while the iron is hot and put them away. Try and finish Miami tonight. But for some reason, he keeps kicking the Spurs, and I'm getting real sick of it. I dunno what they have to do to make him shut up. Well obviously win this damn thing. But the Spurs have led this whole series and have kept on punching Miami in the mouth. It's still not good enough. I so want the Spurs to win this one, so damn bad. We all do. This will be so big in the legacy of our team. The legacy of Tim, Manu, Tony. But for Tim this firmly puts him in the top 10, even the haters HAVE to put him in. The believers then put him into the top 5! Kick em while they are down San Antonio, finish Miami!!!

There is no substance to Bayless.... It's all about getting ratings at any cost. He is well compensated, but that does not change the fact that he is a miserable human being. I live in the Dallas area and saw his act here before he "got famous". He spreads lies and fabrications about people.
As far as M&M in the Morning.....Millions of people may watch or listen to them. Millions of people watch Jersey Shore too. I don't think either show is very good.

5 minutes ago. they said the Rockets, Lakers, Thunder, Clippers, and Memphis could win the West next year. Then they asked each other "What about San Antonio?" Mike Greenberg responded "No, I absolutely don't see them being contenders im sorry" then they followed by both D riding each other by saying "Im rooting for Miami today, just for a Game 7 and so Lebron's legacy doesn't get crushed because its not fair"

Bayless may "like" them to some extent, but when the Lakers were about to play the Spurs (when they were in an injury funk) he was ready to write them off to lose in the first round.
My point is that Bayless is performing the role of a contrarian on a TV show. Given what I know about Skip Bayless and how he conducts himself (especially when he worked in Dallas), I have no idea if he is genuine in his beliefs/statements. He was really a guy with few friends (if any) at pretty much all the newspapers and radio stations in Dallas where he worked by the time he left town for good in the mid 1990s. I heard NOTHING but bad things about Skip.
I just hope SA can finish these guys - it'll be kind of funny to hear all the excuses to come from Bristol, CT. It may not happen, but we'll see.

So sad.

I'm ok with them shitting on the Spurs, its to be expected. But to say the Lakers will be a threat next year? Its looking more and more like the Lakers will be in rebuilding mode next year. Kobe is going to miss major time and probably won't be the same when he returns. Dwight already has his bags packed. The Lakers have a better chance of winning the Draft Lottery than they do contending. Terrible basketball take from guys that clearly don't pay attention.

Exactly right. His sense of entitlement can be seen every time he cries to the officials. I understand players complaining to the refs, but do so at a dead ball or timeout. His whining has directly led to Spurs points

When you're worshiped by the masses and you have a 200' tall picture of your face on the side of the largest coliseum in the city, you're going to probably develop a god complex. Blame it on the public who worshiped him since he was in grade school. Only a fool would throw away a game 6 just to "have a slightly better chance" in game 7. If you throw away game 6, the Heat get to rest by not having to play as hard too. You realize that don't you? By throwing away game 6 you pretty much cut your chances of winning a title in half and double the Heat's odds. Heat get a free win then only need to really fight for one more. Then the Spurs lose one of their two chances. It's a terrible, terrible idea.
You rest guys during the regular season so they're rested for the postseason, not in the NBA Finals when you're one win away from winning a title. >_>

These are the same guys that said Golden State was the better team after two games, then David Robinson and Sean Elliott came on their show and set them straight. Them and most of the other ESPN personalities believe when the Heat win it's because their competition didn't stand a chance and when they lose it's because they weren't trying.

BTW, Mike and Mike are idiots. The Lakers??? Kobe one year older. It's likely he still plays well, but the achilles? could slow him down. Nash is ancient, you can't really take Nash serious anymore. Dwight, if he stays. If Dwight leaves, the Lakers are probably a 35 win team. Those guys just need to shut up. The chemistry issue isn't going anywhere soon. Meta Word Peace? Does he get amnestied??? If not, he is just another year older. Gasol isn't getting any younger. The team struggled this season, next year I don't see anything getting magically better. Especially not with D'antoni. The Lakers will probably implode IMHO, if he stays as coach. The Lakers have so many question marks.
As for the Spurs, the Spurs are likely to have some money. We are going to add someone who can help. Which direction we go, that's a wait and see scenario.

Believe me, I understand what you're saying.
Let's see how it plays out. If the Spurs win tonight, then of course even considering resting the starters will be viewed as a bad idea. But if the Spurs lose and Tim/Manu look drained and subsequently play poorly in game 7, or if Tony's hamstring gives out tonight, then people will question whether Pop should have rested his star players, knowing their advanced age (Tim/Manu) and questionable health (Tony).
The emotional part of me says play everyone big minutes and win the title tonight. The practical part of me says for this specific Spurs team, resting the starters is not as dumb of an idea as you might think.
What will piss me off more than anything is if everyone plays, but then Pop pulls them out at the first sign of significant adversity (double-digit lead, for example). If everyone's gonna play, then play them. Don't give up. That would accomplish nothing.

Under no circumstances would any coach rest any starter if all they had to do was win one game, if they're at all healthy. The only bigger stage is if the Spurs don't win tonight.

I don't think losing in game 6 in any way would prove that they should have tanked the game. You have to go all out every game at this point in the playoffs. You can't take it for granted. If the Spurs "rested" for game 6 then lost game 7, it would go down as the dumbest coaching decision in NBA history. They would have just thrown the title away.
If Parker's hamstring goes out tonight, that doesn't mean it wouldn't have in 2 days. Honestly, nothing that'd happen tonight could prove that Pop could've rested guys and thrown away the game. And I really don't think much of anybody will question why Pop didn't rest the guys. You simply cannot throw away one of your two chances to win a title just for a perceivably better chance in the last game.
Hate to be so hard on you man, but in no reality can I see resting your stars when you're up 3-2 in the Finals just to be slightly more rested for game 7 being a good idea. You're just throwing away two chances for one, giving the Heat all their confidence back, and putting even more pressure on the Spurs to win game 7.

If the SAS wins this, all those ESPN guys will use the 24 hour rule. They'll talk about it for one day because they have to, and move on to the Dwight Howard story. They want the Spurs to go away, plain and simple.
Why should they talk about it anymore then 24 hours, no story line. The Spurs with the same core have won before, people just don't care.

Greenberg and Golic can talk intelligently about the NFL and MLB, but it is very obvious when the topic of the NBA comes up that neither really has a clue as to what is going on, which teams are good or who's having a good year (etc). They have a third guy (I forget his name) who they refer to for input on the NBA. When the Knicks had a 3 or 4 game winning streak he tried to put them up there as a threat to the Heat. The vast majority of what they have to say about the NBA is for the sole purpose of pandering to the large market teams. They are there to make BSPN money, so don't expect them to jump on a small market bandwagon.
We're okay without their uninformed support.
