View Full Version : Now that the 2-2-1-1-1 format is in place for the Finals...

Who likes it? I do and I've been consistent in not ever liking the 2-3-2 format as a team with a lesser record shouldn't be rewarded with 3 straight home games (not that we took full advantage of it when we had that recently). It was more the principle of the matter for me. Now, would 2-2-1-1-1 have made any difference at all in the '13 Finals, mainly the Game 6 chokejob? That's neither here nor there but it's food for thought. Any way, I think it's a change for the best.

This was long overdue. I wonder how the finals would've turned out under this current format. I doubt that the Spurs would've had a 3-2 lead going home for Game 6. Either way, the road teams now only have to deal with the pressure of winning one road game instead of two.

tbh, it's bullshit it happened after this past Finals. I wish they would've done this the year before.
whatever. better late than never, it has been long overdue.

Frankly...since travel really isn't a 'factor' for teams nowadays, I'd prefer it if it was just a 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 format. That way, the momentum could constantly shift and no team would have a distinct advantage.
And the team with the better record would still get the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th games at home, so they would still have that.
I know everyone would say "But what about jet-lag?" and all that, but who cares...spread the games out. Give 3 days in-between each, and jet-lag wont be a factor.
It's not in place yet. It still has to pass a vote from the owners, and even then, may not be implemented immediately.
That being said, I greatly prefer the 2-2-1-1-1 format. In my opinion, 2-3-2 gives too much of an advantage to the home team. Both teams fight all season and through the playoffs to make it to the Finals. It shouldn't be so skewed in the direction of any one team. 2-2-1-1-1 is the more competitive format.
I've also always felt like it was strange for the format to change for the final series, although it didn't seem as odd when the first round was only Best of 5. I also feel like the main reason they switched to 2-3-2, travel, isn't really an issue anymore, and if the cause is no longer valid, there is no reason to continue with the effect.
